Lovely Cotswold cottage on an award-winning private country estate

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

Recently re-decorated and refreshed, new ensuite bathroom and carpets.

Tennyson House (45 Mill Village) is situated in a quiet corner of the award-winning 450 acre private Lower Mill Estate. Close to the Cotswold water park, in the south of the Cotswold region. The estate is fully managed and secure. It includes 7 lakes and the River Thames, the rear deck to the cottage directly overlooks the river itself and beyond, the garden runs down to the banks of Mill Lake. In 2011 Lower Mill Estate won the prestigious award for 'UK's BEST DEVELOPEMENT'.

There is a shared heated pool and sauna, tennis court, and children play area. The cottage has 3 bedrooms, one king double, one double, and a single. There is also a sofa bed downstairs if needed to sleep total of 7. The cottage is fully equipped, and has a wood burning fire. All linen and towels supplied.

During school holidays and peak times there is a minimum 3 night stay.

There is a restaurant onsite.

Wi-fi internet access available at the cottage along with a TV.

There are many walks around the estate and beyond, as well as a lovely pub and restaurant within easy walking distance. There are some areas of special interest for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers, and also carp, coarse and trout fishing available on the lakes.

Wildlife and birdlife: The estate is very proud of its untouched areas of some significance when it comes to bird and wildlife.

Late in 2005 the first European Beavers introduced back into England were released and are hoped to thrive in a far corner of the estate.

There are viewing hides so they can be watched.

The estate is also home to a wide range of Bird life, from waterfowl to owls.

Details of guided walks and the best spots are available from the property or the estate office.

Fishing: There is some excellent fishing on the estate, both coarse fishing and fly fishing.

The coarse fishing is specialised and mostly specimen fishing, and the lakes would be classified as 'hard' and not really suitable for beginners. As a tenant you are able to fish (within the estate fishing rules) details of which are available at the house.

Please note: This cottage doesn't have access to the ArtSpa.

About Dexter Fry

We are originally from the local area and I used to fish the lakes surrounding the area 30 odd years ago. We have been living in New Zealand for 25+ years and purchased the cottage when the estate was first developed. We have had a dozen or so years successfully renting as a holiday home, before we returned mid 2016. We have been staying at the cottage while redecorating and renovating. Now available for holidays again as we are living closer to schools and college in nearby Cirencester

Dexter Fry purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Dexter Fry chose Somerford Keynes

Its is a very quite corner of the estate with lovely outlook over the River Thames and across to Mill Lake.

What makes this cottage unique

Walking around Mill Lake and Farmhouse lake is a real pleasure, all year round.

A homely welcoming place to stay

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is nice and big and fits six comfortably. The resort is lovely and the use of the facilities really made the holiday! The oven wasn't working but as soon as this was reported to the landlord he came round to see if he could fix it.

A great place to stay for the price and would definitely go again!

Lovely cottage

  • 4 of 5

Disappointed the underflaw heating in the lounge wasn’t working, when I contacted the owner I was told that it damages the floor boards. The open fire was far to smoky ( think the chimney needs sweeping) I had to drive home to collect my fan heater . One ring on the hob not working. Maybe a small thing but no mirrors in any of the bedrooms nor wardrobe space.

Fantastic weekend!

  • 5 of 5

The setting was beautiful and the house was lovely. The owner was very helpful and kindly provided us with logs for the first night. The outdoor pool and sauna is close by and an excellent facility - even in the cold winter weather! I would highly recommend this property for a weekend away and would definitely want to come back.
