About the property

Single story former stable situated within beautiful, country surroundings

This single story former stable block adjoining the owner’s home provides a charming holiday cottage amongst beautiful surroundings. All on the ground floor, bespoke kitchen with dining area, sitting room with patio doors opening onto decking area, one king size bedroom, shower room with wc.

All essential amenities including oil central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels, free-view television and DVD, small library including DVDs, books and games, wi-fi, electric cooker, microwave and fridge/freezer. Enclosed private garden area, with hot tub and tropical planting, outdoor decking area with table, chairs and sun loungers. Available access to the use of owners spacious natural grounds, including seating areas located alongside a free running brook which looks across to the stunning views of the chalk downs. Enjoy all this whilst being surrounded by wildlife and pet ducks Justin and Colin.

Footpaths and the award winning conservation village of Steeple Ashton with its 16th century church are a short stroll through the grounds. The village also boasts an award winning shop and local pub which recently featured in the ‘good pub guide’ with small restaurant and accompanying enclosed beer garden.

Having run this property as a successful holiday rental for three seasons we decided to close the winter of 2015 for a complete refurbishment. We now close every January to enable us to maintain our high standards of decoration in the cottage.

About Lee Ruddle

The last 5 generations of our family have lived in Steeple Ashton. Having lived in Australia for two years we were still 'drawn' home.

We thoroughly enjoy the rural aspect of our home and consider ourselves very privileged. It has afforded us the opportunity to ‘live our dream’ with our family and much loved pets.

Lee Ruddle purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Lee Ruddle chose Wiltshire

My husband and I purchased this property in 2007, having fallen in love with it some 30years previous, it needed full renovation to become what we feel is the perfect family home. Following our children ‘flying the nest’ we decided to utilise the space and spilt the property in two and create a self contained holiday home. Prior to owning this property we had renovated another holiday home in the heart of Steeple Ashton and thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

What makes this cottage unique

For many of us the hustle and bustle of everyday life is constant. However both we and our guests get to enjoy the relaxing, rural environment that this home has to offer with the added bonus of relaxing in the hot tub and gazing up at the stars. Its situation means we are surrounded by wildlife at its finest, enhanced by a brook running through the centre of the garden. Yet all of this is within a short walk of Steeple Ashton and all its amenities.

Quiet, peaceful and lovely cottage just what we needed to break from the routine!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely property, with equally lovely hosts. The cottage was perfect - cosy, quiet, with all the amenities you could want. Lovely lounge and bedroom to relax in. The kitchen was fully equipped with all possible things you might need. Lee had even put some ice in the freezer for our G&Ts!! Lovely touch with the eggs, coffee, tea and biscuits . The wood burner was great, with loads of wood to keep it going over the weekend. Books and DVDs on hand, and a few games, such as Scrabble, Charades and so on, as well. The hot-tub outside was lovely, as expected, just a shame the weather wasn't clear enough for us to see the stars! Bathroom was beautiful, lovely hot shower and fluffy towels.

The village is well worth a look around - very old and plenty of walks from which to explore it. Other places like Bath, Trowbridge, Lacock and Salisbury all within striking distance, so a lovely area to explore.

We would definitely go back, and recommend it highly for a break away from the daily grind!!

Owner's Response: What a lovely review to start 2017. We constantly try to keep the cottage to a high standard hence closing December/January for redecorating. Lovely to know you had every thing for a relaxing stay. Do try and come back in the summer and enjoy the garden, great to sit and take in all the amazing country side and views of Salisbury Plane. Even better when enjoying a BBQ! Look forward to welcoming you back. Kind regards Lee and David

We had a fantastic week in this cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cottage, very peaceful and relaxing. it was a nice short drive to Longleat and there are plenty of lovely villages to visit, or places to walk such as the local canals and locks. The hot tub is a nice big size, and for exclusive use of the guests. The hot tub is positioned between the owner and guest cottage, and although there is some greenery and the curtains are closed in the evenings, we did feel a little self conscious about using the hot tub during the day, in front of full height windows to the owners cottage. This could easily be addressed with some further screening. Overall we would happily recommend this cottage to anybody who is looking for a relaxing break.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. All our guest find the cottage peaceful and relaxing as you did and having the use of 6 person hot tub for 2 people is the icing on the cake. We will be adding yet more large pots of Bamboo to further fill the screen in front of our window, but just to reassure you on the odd occasion when in the sitting room during the day we can not see the hot tub. Many thanks Lee and David

Top Quality Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is decorated to a very high standard and is equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owners go out of their way to be helpful and keep the cottage very warm. There are lots of places of interest to visit. The only thing to note is that the cottage is a long way down the drive which is okay when the potholes have been filled in. We would definitely stay there again.

Owner's Response: So kind of you to give us such a lovely review. The good news is that in the New Year the track is being resurfaced so that last 3/4 of a mile will bring you to a our little piece of heaven away from all the hustle and bustle. As you mentioned there are so many places of interest to visit, starting with our beautiful village Steeple Ashton. We look forward to seeing you in the near future. Kind regards Lee and David

A little gem - off the beaten track!

  • 5 of 5

Inviting, comfortable & spotlessly clean little hideaway. Set in a tropical garden with a beautiful hot tub - from which you can relax & watch the stars after a day of exploring lovely Wiltshire. The wood burner created a warm and relaxing atmosphere - we would have loved to stay longer. Lee is the perfect host. Highly recommended to those who what peace & quiet.

This is a lovely, comfortable, charming accommodation.

We had a wonderful stay in this charming cottage. The welcome basket of goodies was lovely. The gardens were beautiful. The tiny village of Steeple Ashton provides a great afternoon of wandering around, guided by the booklet in the cottage....and it has a great pub. We would return, if we could, and recommend to anyone. The Jordans, Raleigh, NC

Beautiful cottage and a lovely welcome from Lee...

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at the cottage. Everything was lovely and the little touches such as fresh eggs and the tea and coffee etc was very welcome. If you're following a satnav , when you reach Spiers Piece farm ( with the airfield on your left) KEEP GOING! And then keep going some more. And don't turn into the house on the right with the large front drive! Keep following the road through 1 more set of gates....THEN you will see the green and white Wiltshire flag as mentioned in the details!

A lovely welcome from Lee with a lot of local knowledge. The cottage and gardens are beautiful and the hot tub is great.

The pub in the village was ok, it's a 45 minute walk. We didn't eat there as we had already eaten there wasn't a wide selection of ale ( mainly pale ales) I think there were more lagers and a big selection of wines.

We will certainly look at returning to the cottage.

Owner's Response: You are absolutely spot on in not going by what the satnav tells you, as we stress in our directions and of course look out for the Wiltshire Flag! What a shame you didn't eat at the village pub as the food is lovely, may be on your next visit! We look forward to seeing you in the future. Lee and David
