What makes this House unique
In 1908 the Pope family, who owned bars and brothels in Pioneer Square downtown Seattle, built their mini-mansion at 3909 47th Ave S at a time when the Rainier Valley was serviced by commuter train from Seattle and the automobile was displacing horses a primary mode of transportation. The home was initial constructed with no fireplaces and was thus heated with relative new technology, radiant heat with a central boiler fueled by wood and/or coal. The Pope family had staff for cooking, cleaning, and other general housekeeping. The home still has a second set of stairs from the kitchen to privately access the bedroom level and a dumb-waiter was discovered during a recent remodel. The Pope family lived in the home for approximately 50 years and thereafter the next family that bought the estate subdivided the property into multiple lots which are now the homes that surround the property. This second family to live in the home lived there for approximately 25 years as did the next family afterwards. We believe we are the 4th owners and bought the home in 2006 where we raised our family Hope you enjoy your visit and please come again.

The house was just as described and was perfect for our family get together. Lots of room to spread out. The owner was very responsive and friendly. When we're in Seattle we will definitely be back.
Jewel of Seattle
If you want to experience the beauty of Seattle stay here. Where else can you be on one of the greatest ocean cities in the world and gaze out your window on a lake as beautiful as Lake Tahoe. Nowhere I know. But that is what this historic home offers you😎
Great Historic Home in Excellent Location
This majestic home is located on a quiet street just a few short blocks from Lake Washington. The views of Mt. Rainier and other peaks was lovely from many of the rooms and the deck. This grand home is larger than it looks with plenty of room for our 12 guests to have group cooking in the spacious kitchen. The kitchen is well outfitted and has updated appliances as well as a convenient washer and dryer in the laundry room. The backyard is pleasant with lots of seating in the shade of the trees and there is even a treehouse for the kids to enjoy. The front porch and large deck added to our outdoor experience. There are many windows bringing in great natural light. We loved the historic features including the claw foot tub and some secret passages and stairs for the kids. Our hosts were especially accommodating, working to make sure our stay was comfortable. They welcomed us with roses from their garden and a bottle of wine. Overall, this is a great home for a large group to enjoy the beauty of Seattle.
