About the property

Ideally located 3 km from Bayeux and 7 km from the landing beaches

Three kilometers from the center of Bayeux and 7 kilometers from the sea, this charming house of the eighteenth century, completely restored, is located in the park of Barbeville Castle, historical monuments. The location is ideal for exploring all the landing sites, the beautiful town of Bayeux and the beautiful Bessin region, but also to enjoy the beaches, tennis ownership and Omaha Beach Golf.

The house of 200 m2 consists of a ground floor with an entrance, a laundry, a toilet with washbasin, a kitchen opening onto a large dining room, and a very large and comfortable living room. On the 1st floor there is a toilet, three bedrooms and two bathrooms very modern bathrooms, one of them communicating with two bedrooms. The set is decorated with research and refinement giving this house a very cozy atmosphere. An outdoor terrace facing south can enjoy the sun and the view of a lovely garden and a beautiful panorama.

The small town of Bayeux, 3 kilometers away, preserved during the war, has preserved its historical value with its 12th century cathedral, half-timbered houses, numerous mansions dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The charm of its market on Saturday morning makes it a curiosity for the whole region. A nice and very interesting museum of art and history has been completely renovated recently ...

The region of Bessin around Bayeux offers many historic mansions and castles from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, most of which are visitable. If you are a lover of the gardens, you can organize a circuit: garden of the castle of Brécy known for its hedges of boxwood, garden of Castillon with the innumerable varieties of flowers ....

Among the many day trips are: Mont Saint-Michel (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Channel Islands of Jersey, Guernsey, Serck and Alderney. The Chausey Islands are particularly notable for their tidal range. The Bay of Veys is a paradise for birds, next to the Cotentin marshes with beautiful landscapes.

Absolutely stunning home and a perfect location. We stayed 4 nights for the D Day anniversary with my adult sons (20’s) and we can’t say enough about this place and the host. I would very highly recommend this home to anyone.

fantastic coach house

  • 5 of 5

we had a wonderful time staying in the coach house to the Chateau in Barbeville. We had wonderful weather cycling to the D Day beaches and Bayeux to see the tapestry

The house was really comfortable and beautifully equipped and decorated and our hosts M and Mme Delacourt were so charming and helpful. They gave us great recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. This is one of the best places I have stayed in as a holiday home and we would all love to come back to explore more of Bayeux and cycle around more of the countryside

Beautiful home within minutes of the D-day beaches.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I along with two other couple's ended our three week journey across France with a week's stay at this beautiful home. The house is large with plenty of room to sit around in the evening and review the days experiences. The town of Bayeux is five minutes away with a number of excellent restaurants, grocery stores, and things to see. We have rented homes in the past throughout Europe and this was a bargain. The owners could not have been more cooperative and helpful. When we arrived we needed to do a week's worth of laundry for the six of us and Christian offered to drive with us into town to find a grocery and laundromat. Truly the nicest of people. I would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to this part of France. If seeing the D-Day sites is on your trips agenda you won't find a better home base.

Owner's Response: Lee, his wife and their four friends are really the perfect guests... Marie-Christine and I were so happy to have welcome them. We had the opportunity to help them when they arrived in order to find everything they need. They are both discreet and curious about the region, as well as the history and people. Yes, Lee, you, your family and your friends are welcome again at any time you want...

Magical place

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 5 with 3 young boys and finding the perfect place to go for each holidays is not an easy task. The Chateau de Barbeville really exceeded our expectations. The house is just beautiful, spacious, well designed to either have a family meal together or flop in front of the TV with a great choice of films on DVD. Everything was already there, nothing to worry about like buying simple but important things such as loo rolls, sponges, household products, etc. When we arrived, we had such warm welcome from Christian. Fresh bread, milk, butter and absolutely delicious home made jam were in the fridge, such thoughtful gesture after a 10 hour drive. Christian gave us great advice on where to go which we all followed. The other great thing about the place is it is very child friendly. The boys were playing tennis or the youngest spending his time on the swings. They played football with Christian's grand children. It was all happy family. The house is also close to any sites of interest which is a plus when you don't have to spend hours in the car to visit touristic attractions. Thank you very much for your warm welcome. We will certainly come back.

Lovely home! Perfect place to stay in Normandy.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed four nights in this lovely house on the grounds of this historic chateau. Just wish we could have stayed longer! The downstairs has a very nice kitchen, living room, laundry room, and water closet. The upstairs has three large bedrooms that are beautifully decorated. One bedroom has its own bath. The other two share a bathroom. The water closet is just down the hall. The grounds are also lovely. The location is just a short distance outside of Bayeux, which made it a perfect place to stay and explore from there. We didn't get to meet the Delacourts, but their cousine and her husband met us and took us through the house at the beginning of our stay. Highly recommend!

Owner's Response: Jane and her family are really perfect guests ! Unfortunately we couldn't welcome them ourselves. Fortunately my cousine Christine and her husband did it... They spent four days in the house besides the chateau. All of them are absolutely charming and discret. They leaved the house quite clean. Jane, you are welcome at any time, and we hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you ourselves that time.

Beautiful property in a perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

The property is truly beautiful and comfortably housed two couples with two children. The owner checked us in and provided great restaurant and tourist suggestions. I would highly recommend this property for anyone looking to visit the historical beaches in Normandy. All beaches and airborne drop locations are about a 30 minute drive from the property. So it was a perfect base-location for our party.
