Weekend at Grandma's
The photograph of the home immediately drew me to the property. It is truly a quiet waterfront location, even with neighbors or either side. My 81 year old mother came from Illinois with a sister and her husband to visit family in Hampton. She has already spread the word that it was a beautiful home and property and she would move in tomorrow if she could. Wonderful architecture and floor plan. The triangular fireplace arrangement on the first floor was very intriguing to all of us who love old houses. The backyard was lovely in the evening. All the modern conveniences of air conditioning, great kitchen, 2-baths - it was a wonderful stay and since I live just 90 miles north, I plan to request to stay again in the future. We had a absolutely wonderful time. Feels like being at grandma's house. The shortfall for us was parking. Not much space for king-cab pickup. Had the water's edge been trimmed, we may have enjoyed the water view more fully. And if you are a party that needs 3 separate beds, the 3rd is a sleeper sofa.
it felt like they just moved out to let somebody rent it for a week and then moved back in
It felt like we were in somebody's primary home that was just waiting for us to leave so they could move back in
The home is my primary home. I do move out when guests come (so they can have privacy), and then I do move back in when guests leave. I’ll try to make that more clear in my description of the home.
It felt exactly like a grandmothers house..... it is so retro throwback..... just enough updates to stay relevant.... the welcome book is a tremendous timesaver .....too bad for us we consulted it the night before we left ...... we would recommend it.
A nice weekend getaway
The good: Trish is so responsive and welcoming. Nice diverse neighborhood, lots of kids. Stellar back yard. Plenty of seating inside and out. Piano, mostly in tune! Has everything you may need - extra toothbrush, shampoo, etc. Lots of nice touches and details throughout. We were very comfortable here and would absolutely stay again.
The not so good: Dining room ceiling and upstairs railing really need repairs. The TVs are old, no HDMI inputs, so no game or Chromecast abilities. However, everything works, and there’s cable, so if you get stuck inside on a rainy day, you’ll be fine.
Overall a good value and a welcoming host make this a winner.
Grandma’s quiet beauty
Grandmas house was beautiful outside. It was newly redone. Inside was spacious. There is a little updating need. It would be so advantageous if the front storage room was turned into a first floor bedroom. Overall we were very happy with our stay. Thanks for having us !!!
Perfect weekend getaway
Patricia is a great host and provides anything needed for a comfortable stay. Her home is located near grocery stores and a short Uber ride to the ferry to visit downtown Norfolk. Her back yard is very peaceful and a great place to relax after a busy day.
