This is a small, but stunningly beautiful, authentic log home on a 70 acre estate on the shore of Douglas Lake in a perfect location. It is the guest house for the estate, and there is a larger main house that is also available for short term rentals. Those are the only two homes on the estate. Check out the Google location function and description for more about the property.
The wonderful feature about this property is that, despite the perfect location, it feels like you are off in a peaceful world by yourself. The cabin is at the end of a peninsula with a half mile driveway away from the nearest road, and is surrounded by 28,000 acre lake.
Literally, there is no other piece of property on this lake to compare in terms of beauty, location, activities, ease of access to interstates, and many attractions - without sacrificing peace, quiet, tranquility, and privacy.
Douglas Lake is a premier destination recreational and fishing lake with over 28,000 acres, more than 500 miles of shore line, and more than 30 miles long. However, because there are so many large lakes in the area, Douglas, relative to many lakes, is still quiet, without much traffic, and a relaxing place to be.
This home is located less than a mile from Dandridge, a charming, very old town. The Point Marina is less than a mile away. It is less than 12 miles to Sevier County, which is home of many vacation, shopping, camping, hiking, and tourist day trips. Just 3 miles from Interstate 40, Exit 417. Knoxville is 30 miles away.
On the property, there is a pontoon boat and dock available for rent. And there are usually kayaks and canoes around for free.
There are horses that are sometimes available to rent, but, of course, only to experienced riders, and only with a guide. You would have to inquire whether they are available during your trip.
There are a couple of miles of trails for hiking, and camping sites on the property. There is a recreation barn that is shared with either our family or visitors in the other house. It includes an indoor basketball hoop, a fully equipped free weights gym, and boxing equipment ... all of that is for experienced athletes only.
The cabin itself is 18x24 feet, but there are three floors. The top floor is a master bedroom suite with a queen bed, and a private bathroom with a shower, but no tub. The middle floor has a small kitchen and dining area on one end, a fireplace in the middle, and a small living room on the other side of the fireplace. The ground floor has a queen bed with private bathroom and old copper tub, but no shower (at the moment, which may change soon).
That arrangement allows for 4 people in the two bedrooms. More would be possible, but cramped a bit.
There are many rental "log cabins" in this area. Many of them clearly are "rentals", stacked one atop the other, and in impossible locations. This one is very noticeably different, and your visit here will be a very, very different experience from most any other rental in this area. This is a true reproduction of the cabins that were built in this area 200 years ago, but with all the modern conveniences, and 70 acres of private property. This cabin actually is a home. It was not built as a rental cabin, and you can tell the difference.
