Christine Herman-Russell purchased this House in 2003
Why Christine Herman-Russell chose Sylvan-Highlands
We've lived in this home since 2003 because of it's architectural beauty and attention to detail, beautiful woodwork, bountiful windows, private forest setting, and wonderful light. We knew we wanted to be close to the hiking opportunities in Portland, as well as have an easy, quick commute to our coffeeshops downtown and around Portland.
What makes this House unique
My husband and I both come from architectural and design backgrounds, and we feel lucky to have found a house that is so well thought out for living in harmony with your surroundings. The use of Honduran Mahogany and NW Cedar throughout is rare to find in a home, as is the amount of windows specifically featuring the natural beauty of the house's surround forest. Cooking in that warm kitchen, surrounded by rich wood and forest views can't be beat!

Above & Beyond
It was such a treat to stay in this home. It is a beautiful home that was put together, cared for, and owned by someone that really loves this house. There are so many nooks inside and out to feel like you are lost in a forrest and to relax and read or think. Everything was clean, organized, and put together with such thought. It was so kind of them to have coffee & tea, soap, detergents, shampoo, conditions, a bin full of kid items. We had the most magical time staying in this home and we really were blown away by how above and beyond the owner went making sure everyone who stayed in her home really would feel cared for and enjoy themselves. We have been staying in around 4-5 rentals for vacations since 2010 and this was the best experience we have ever had.
Wonderful house. Awesome views and really nice inside. Great location. Well stocked too. We hope to be coming back again.
Rainforest vibe minutes from downtown
We had an amazing stay at the Sylvan Tree House. Neighborhood is amazingly beautiful with forrested slopes. Views from house provide for a serene experience minutes from downtown. Home owner was a great communicator and house was incredible. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
A dream house!!
This place was perfection. Communication was easy and checking into the beautiful house was a breeze. Had a group of friends that were meeting for our annual trip and we loved the place. It’s perfect if you love mid century or you want to pretend you’re living in a treehouse!
Awesome home within Portland's beautiful Washington Park area -- this home is truly among the trees.
Christine was the best host: greeting us at the home to provide us a tour. She has created a very welcoming & relaxing space. We comfortably had 11 adults staying in the home and everyone commented they had the most relaxing time and best sleep ever (the bedding on each of the beds is awesome!!). We will absolutely stay here again.
Amazing home above it all!
Christine was great, ensured we had everything we needed for our vacation. The home was immaculate, well equipped and beautifully decorated. It was even better than we expected! This will now be our "go to" vacation rental in Portland.
