Comfortable stay for a family of six

  • 4 of 5

Spacious enough for six, great location-well connected by tube/public transport to all tourist attractions, good service.

Shower head was dismounted which was fixed by them very next morning.

good location, clean, but had issues.

  • 2 of 5

I would have given this 2 1/2 stars out of 5 (but can't select 1/2 a star). We had a mixed experience. It was my wife and I, & our two teenagers. 4 people total. We stayed for 5 days.

The good:

-The place is nice on the inside, plenty of community space for the family to hang out in, including a good sized dining room table and a full sized living room, all in one.

-In a good location. Close to a couple of different Underground lines, and within walking distance of plenty of excellent restaurants, bars, and shops.

-Clean.

-Two bedrooms with double beds of good quality.

-Relatively quiet due to side street location.

-We were able to check in early, which was nice because our flight from the US landed at 7am

-One more positive I mention at the end.

Not good:

-We had no hot water for nearly 4 of the 5 days we were there. We realized it after about a half day. They took 1.5 days to fix it. Hot water then worked that night, but the next day, it was gone again during the middle of the first person showering. Very frustrating.

-The clothes dryer was not working. At first we just thought we were using it wrong, but by the third day we had given up. Two pairs of slightly damp jeans went into it for 40 minutes and came out the same dampness.

- The sofa bed in the living room is of poor quality. My teenagers flipped a coin to see who got the second bedroom and who got the sofa bed. The mattress is not good and the bars of the frame can be felt, so the teen who had it complained enough that we made them switch half way through the week because we didn't want to have him screw up his back. If you need to use this bed be warned. It sucks.

-It's a downstairs/garden apartment, below street level. So you don't really have a view of anything outside your window aside from the stairs that go to your front door.

-London rats. Maybe it's related to the downstairs location, or maybe it's just a London thing. I don't live there so I don't know. But we saw rats walking down the front stairs in front of our apartment nearly every night. Every time our front door light was triggered by the motion detector, we knew it was a rat coming down the stairs.

So the one other main good thing about this place was that the owner worked with us after our stay in regards to our issues, and gave us a partial refund to compensate. He also promised to address the issues going forward, so you might want to ask about these if you are interested in this place.

Great Location, Great Property Management, Flat OK

  • 3 of 5

The listing description on Home Away does not call out that this is a basement flat but the description on Trip Advisor does so we knew that going in.

The Pros: Great location, one block from the Warren St. Station. There are grocery stores within two blocks of the flat and plenty of pubs and cafes near by. We arrived in the morning and were able to check in early and Dena was very helpful. Having a washing machine and kitchen was also great as we had breakfast in the flat every morning. There is internet which made the kiddos happy.

The Cons: The flat is a bit shabby and one of the sofas in the lounge was really dirty with stains and crumbs on the cushions. Since that is one of the first things you see when you enter, not a great first impression. With the exception of the center court yard, the rest of the flat was not too bad. The courtyard is filthy and really just too gross to use. The carpet in the lounge is white and dirty, I would throw it away and not have a carpet at all. The bed linens and pillows leave much to be desired. The pillows are so flat from use I am surprised the management company is not embarrassed by this. The bed linens are mismatched, old and worn as are the towels for the bath and kitchen.

Overall, not bad and with a good cleaning which would include the furniture and buying new pillows and linens this would have earned more stars.

The management company was great and responsive and I would recommend leasing from them.

We loved London and had a great stay!
