About Yolanda Ansó

My husband, our daughter and I have lived here forever. Our house has warmth and flavor, like our life. Intense full of illusions.

Yolanda Ansó purchased this cottage in 1988

Why Yolanda Ansó chose Undiano

because it is close to everything and at the same time far from everything. because its sound is silence and birds. If you need to leave, Pamplona is one step away. And the road to Santiago passes two kilometers, entering Puerto del Perdón towards Tierra Estella.

What makes this cottage unique

The house is located in the center of everything. Also located next to the Hospital area of Navarra. Ideal to relax if you have to come for health issues to Pamplona. You can also bring your pet.

Ideal also for business visits to Pamplona given its physical proximity to the city,

If you want to work while your partner and your children enjoy the place, take advantage! You have spaces for all this.

Altikarra in Undiano, is starting point equidistant from beautiful places of Navarre, Basque Country, Pyrenees .. (we provide personalized guide tours from here, for 7 or 15 days ...) Without crossing streets are in the fronton to play a ball game, in the Church, or in the playground to be with your children.

From the large window you can see the Pyrenees and the fireworks of Pamplona at the San Fermin fiestas. Of which you can enjoy to the fullest, and then return and rest in another world ... or tour Navarra, from home. There is nothing that is more than an hour away .... The sea, Zarautz, San Sebastian / Donosti, the desert of the Bardenas, El Nacedero de Urederra, the Castle of Olite, La Selva de Irati, the School of climbing Etxauri 15 minutes away, the Roman ruins of Andión, 15 minutes ... etc

Coup de cœur assuré !

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Gran casa familiar !!!

  • 5 of 5

Muchas gracias Yolanda! En cuanto podamos, repetiremos sin duda!

Recomiendo sin duda esta casa!

Magnífica casa rural

  • 5 of 5

Welcome to Casa Rural Altikarra

Make yourselves at home !!

1.- Casa Altikarra: a brief history

Casa Altikarra was built 100 years ago when our uncle Fidel got married and needed his own place. In those times relatives and neighbours would collaborate and help to build their own place, with love and friendship.

They used chalk stones from the local quarry, brought in by carts drawn by oxen and mules. It was built with unplaned timber, from the black poplar trees which grew on the banks of the irrigation channels. With its traditional construction - warm and welcoming - Casa Altikarra has given shelter to generations of working people.

How Casa Altikarra got its name.

The houses in this country take their name from their geographical location, their owners, and the origins of their inhabitants. Uncle Fidel's family, the first inhabitants of Casa Altikarra, had travelled from Artika to Undiano around 1720 . Artika is a village on the hillside of the Ezkaba mountain, on the border between Pamplona and Iruña, hence the family name “Artikarra”, which means 'the ones from Artika' in Euskera, the spoken language at that time. Through the years the name started to evolve at the same time that the Euskera language started to disappear. 'The ones from Artika' became “Altikarra”.

In the sixties people started to migrate from the countryside to the cities. They went to Pamplona to work in factories and the mining of potash, which was also being mined in Undiano .

Those living at Casa Altikarra left for Pamplona and rented it to two families from Huelva and Avila who had migrated to work locally in the potash mine - borers looking for a better future.

When the mine closed the families abandoned Alkitarra and the house was left empty. In 1987 we had the opportunity to make Alkitarra our home and in so doing we closed another chapter in our family history.

We have lived here since then and have enjoyed every bit of it. Alkitarra smells of home, human warmth and every nook and cranny of it speaks of a life lived to its limits and rooted to the land we live on. It speaks of other cultures and countries we have visited and loved.

Altikarra is at your disposal during your stay to enjoy and be a part of .

We all leave a bit of us wherever we go. Leave the flutter of your hearts with us and let’s write another chapter in the history of Altikarra.

2.- Reasons to stay in Altikarra

For starters, you are in the middle of Navarre. From here you can travel to Pamplona, 10 minutes away or to the beautiful Irati woodlands. The Urederra river source springs or the sea are one hour away by car (Donostia, Zarautz, San Juan de Luz). You may also want to visit the Bardenas desert through Olite and Olite’s castle.

The Pyrenees, 1.5 hours away by car, offers skiing opportunities and beautiful walks. In a week you can explore the surroundings at your leisure or stay in the village, relaxing enjoying the beautiful walks and admiring the landscape. That in itself is also a terrific option because Casa Altikarra is both in the centre of things as well as far from the madding crowd! . The “sound of the silence” at Casa Altikarra is broken by a family of red-tailed chaffinches living by the wooden terrace. In the spring you can share their beauty while gently sipping a local brew.

Casa Altikarra is in the middle of the village: the swiming pool, complete with lifeguard and a small bar, is next to it. The front garden can be used for sports or you can enjoy the terrace ’s shade while reading a book and keeping an eye on your children playing in the garden.

3.- A brief history of Undiano and its inhabitants.

Undiano is a small village of 197 hectares, at the foot of the Perdon Mountain and 2 kms from the Camino de Santiago. (The pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela).

It is also: 13 kms from Pamplona; 88 kms from “San Sebastian”;

105 kms from Vitoria, 78 kms Logroño, 142 kms from Baiona, 413 kms from Madrid, 445kms from Barcelona and 497 kms from Valencia.

Undiano's origins can be traced as far back as the Roman Empire, when “Pompaelo” (Pamplona) was surrounded with the villas of wealthy Roman landlords, and Undiano was one of these.

With time those villas became hamlets and the Roman slaves and peasants came under the rule of the Kings of Navarre and their knights.

Undiano, administratively, forms part of “la Cendea de Cizur”. Cendea comes from the Latin “centena” (hundred) which refers to the size of land required to keep 100 families. It appears these were created as part of the “Honesta Missio” for Roman soldiers after their demobilisation.

The villages, or consejos, that form this Cendea are:

Zizur Menor, Sagues, Gazolaz, Partenain, Zariquiegui, Astrain, Muru-Astrain, Larraia, Eriete and Undiano.

The Town Hall is in Gazolaz where 11 council members meet.

Every village has a president and 4 council members who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the village.

Undiano is in cul
