About Susan

Growing up in Barker, population 500+/-, I could not wait to leave and see what our country had to offer. The answer I found after being transferred to Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey, Maryland, Kentucky, Georgia and back to Maryland for my work in the hospitality industry is there's no place like home! I enjoy sharing all the attractions our area has to offer from a local's perspective - much more fun than reviewing a tourism brochure!!

Susan purchased this lodge in 2001

Why Susan chose Barker

My mother, wanting her wandering daughter to return home to Western New York, sent Tom and I a little clipping from the Buffalo News about a bank foreclosure on the Lake Ontario. Our property sat vacant for seven years, was purchased on an internet auction and was brought back to life for all to share. Our lake house has unobstructed views to Toronto, 900' of shoreline, 80 acres of land to explore, privacy and peace and quiet.

What makes this lodge unique

Our lake house has 900 feet of unobstructed waterfront as well as 80 acres to explore. We are on a major migratory bird route as well as on the Monarch Butterfly flyway. We provide canoes and kayaks as well as bicycles for our guest's enjoyment.

Diamond in the rough

  • 5 of 5

We (husband & I, son & DnL, and DnL parents) stayed here for a week and didnt want to leave. Owners, Susan and Tom, were so nice and were a big help when asked about best places in the area. We explored New York and Canada every day and couldn’t wait to return to the peace and quiet and fantastic sunsets every night! We loved the “lodge” look and feel of the house and the occasional visits from hummingbirds and Bo. We definately will recommend this property to everyone and hope to return some day.

Lovely location. Well kept up. Well supplied. Very helpful, friendly gracious hosts.

  • 5 of 5

Highly recommend this rental on the shores of Lake Ontario. Each day brought awesome and changing views of the lake. Kayaks were made available for those who wanted to get out on the water. Friends and relatives were welcomed by our hosts to join us for some relaxed together time during our stay. A fire ring near the lake, complete with wood to burn, was provided for roasting marshmallows if desired.

Our brother who lives nearby brought his horse and buggy over to give us carriage rides by the lake. Numerous walking paths beckon for those who like to get out and walk.

Our hosts, Tom and Sue, added the frosting on the cake with their friendliness, making us feel like we belonged there in addition to anticipating and providing for our every need.

Overall, we left with many happy, pleasurable, memorable moments.

Five stars

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about our wonerful stay at the lakehouse. Tom and Susan are some of the friendliest people I've ever had the privilege of meeting. They always made sure we had everything we needed. We came to New York for my nieces wedding, and to get reconnected with my sisters and nieces and nephews. We were able to have everyone out at the lakehouse for cookouts, kayaking and just spending time together at this beautiful location. Everyone had so much fun and made many great memories. We will be back again for family reunions or just to relax.

Sincerly, Tracey

Great Stay - Right on the Lake with lots of Space

  • 5 of 5

We had a marvelous stay. The house is right on Lake Ontario and comfortable with lots of views. And we were treated to the full range of views conditions -- from 5-foot waves and high wind to totally flat water, and from storms to (mostly) beautiful sunshine. The 80-acre property was wonderful -- in addition to the very long water line, there was forest, abandoned orchards of apple, pear, and berries, meadows, and more, even a basketball court. The owners, Tom and Susan were also extremely helpful and hospitable.

An excellent base for our daughter's wedding week

  • 5 of 5

Step away from the hustle and bustle. The Lake House is a tranquil escape on the banks of Lake Ontario. Eight of us stayed here for a week for our daughter’s wedding. There are five comfortable bedrooms, two bathrooms with good showers, and a lovely, large, open living space and kitchen that worked brilliantly for entertaining. We held the wedding breakfast here on the Sunday for around 50 people, setting tables and chairs up outside overlooking the lake. All our guests thought it was wonderful – some went out canoeing and swimming, some went for a walk in the grounds, while others simply sat and enjoyed the views and the company. It made for a most enjoyable occasion. Our hosts, Tom and Susan, were very helpful. They provided us with a griddle, food warmers and waffle maker, and even cleaned the large porch of their own house for us to use should the weather not be so good. As it was, it was a sunny, warm day so everyone enjoyed sitting out by the lake. There was plenty of parking for all our guests.

Whether you’re looking for a peaceful getaway or, like us, want to host a special event, this lake house is the ideal location. Highly recommended!

Lockport offers the Erie Canal boat ride and the caves. Buffalo is an architect's dream to tour and Rochester's Strong Museum of Play is the best place to spend your day with children. When all the sightseeing is done, there is no better place to relax than on our lakeside decks.
