About Ornella Bragaglia
The owners of Casa SanGiovenale are a couple who decide to settle in Orvieto few years ago, coming from other areas of Italy, attracted by the beauty of the place and quality of the life. Piero is a forestry researcher. Ornella is a painter-restorer. They both love outdoor activities, like mountain-biking, hiking and running. They also enjoy arts and cultures. They have two children, Matteo and MariaSole, with whom they share traveling in Italy, and abroad, discovering the nature, culture and arts of new countries.
Ornella Bragaglia purchased this Apartment in 2012
Why Ornella Bragaglia chose Orvieto
The medieval charm, the panoramic view, the silence, the history of the district of San Giovenale(which takes its name from the nearby eleventh century church)... these are the house characteristics attracting us since we moved to Orvieto. We bought this house in love with the atmosphere that you breathe ... just a few steps, however, from monuments, restaurants, shops When we do not have guests we galdly spend a few days in our little paradise!
What makes this Apartment unique
The original stone arches, wooden beams, the medieval cistern, courtyard garden, the panoramic window completely immerse you in the mood of Orvieto, allowing you to still relax in the tranquility of a quiet and typical neighborhood, far from the chaos of mass tourism

Perfect in every way!
Piero and Ornella's apartment in Orvieto is simply perfect. We stayed 8 nights and would have stayed longer if we could have. The apartment itself is lovely - beautifully and artistically decorated with a wonderful sensibility. Its location is the best - steps from downtown Orvieto and with a view to die for. And it's comfortable (even in the extreme heat of August, we were fine). We had everything we needed - full kitchen (fun and easy to cook in), washing machine, WiFi - plus many extra thoughtful touches. For example, Piero met us at the train station and Ornella took us back when we left. And the exterior courtyard is a real treat. It's private and cool. We took all our meals there. And Ornella and Piero's suggestions for restaurants and sights were terrific. We can't recommend the apartment and Orvieto too highly. We planned many day trips from Orvieto but ended up spending most of our time there because it is such a magical and welcoming city. This was one of the best vacations of our life and certainly the nicest apartment we've rented in Europe.
When you meet special people like Rebecca and Charles, you really appreciate the value of this job!
Gorgeous property. Well presented and comfortable
The owners are wonderful, always available and helpful. I would recommend this property without hesitation.
The hosts and location are ideal
Ornella and Pietro treat you like old friends right from the moment of your arrival; they were the most special hosts we met on our 2-week trip. Their warmth and kindness are beyond what you would require, and add to your Italian experience.
The apartment is in a quiet part of Orvieto but just a short walk to the cathedral and shops. We liked being on the residential rather than touristy side of town. Inside is comfortable and artistic, just as the photos indicate. Ancient and modern all at once.
Our favorite activity was walking to the cathedral each evening and sitting in the quiet town square. We were sad to leave.
Perfect house and location and hosts
Not only is this house beautiful and welcoming, it has a view you will never forget. Close to sites and restaurants but far enough to provide quiet and restful retreat. Our hosts, Ornella and Piero, are like friends and are helpful in every way. Perfect place to stay to enjoy all that Orvieto has to offer.
Wonderful house with breathtaking views!
Ornello and Piero were wonderful hosts. They picked us up from the train station, gave us delicious restaurant options and even helped us back to our car at the end. We loved Orvieto! Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer!
Wonderful Hospitality on the Rock
We had a wonderful stay in Orvieto at Casa Sangiovenale - starting with our arrival at the train station. We had been prepared to ride the funiculare up to the rock and haul our stuff through the streets to the house, but we got a message from Piero before we arrived, offering a ride from the train station to the house! Once at the house, we met Ornella, who showed us the place (she clearly takes immense pride in the house, and her artwork is all over it) and gave us the rundown of how everything worked. They were so friendly and helpful, even to the point of calling a local restaurant to secure reservations for us for the next night.
The house itself is beautiful. It boasts both a medieval cistern and one of Orvieto’s famous caves. Both are beautifully preserved and integrated into house. There is a beautiful little outdoor space (which we would have taken advantage of in warmer weather) and more than enough room. There is also a washing machine, which came in handy for us as Orvieto was smack in the middle of a two-week trip. We were only there for 2 nights, so we didn’t do any cooking, but the kitchen seemed perfectly well outfitted for the task.
The neighborhood is beautiful, out in the “old” part of Orvieto (coming from the States, I figured the whole place would be old) and has incredible views of the hills and surrounding countryside. Being a little bit removed from the town center, it gets nice and quiet at night. But Orvieto being as small as it is, the distance is not an issue. You can get to the Duomo on the other side of town in less than 15 minutes by foot.
If you plan to see Orvieto, Casa Sangiovenale is a great home base, and Piero and Ornella will make you feel right at home.
The Holiday house is located in the district of San Giovenale, near the ancient church of the same name, with different architectural styles from the early Middle Ages.
