Ensenada Escape - Hidden Beaches and Amazing Adventures

Ready to get away from it all? This place is for you!

What might you do here in between amazing sunrises and sunsets? Watch whales swim by, walk down to secluded beaches, explore family-friendly outdoor activities, or just sit back and soak in endless coastline views.

More information
You are on top of the world and everything else feels far, far away!

Just a two-hour drive from San Diego, every day feels like a week of vacation!

No TV! BBQs, full kitchen, cool bathrooms.

Now there is a new loft space, too!

THE SPACE
The main house has three bedrooms (1 king, 3 queens) with two bathrooms, a large living room/dining room/kitchen area, and a ping pong table on the patio. All of the bedrooms have amazing views of the ocean and the mountain ranges will often change from red to purple at dusk.

The brand new loft space includes the property's fourth bedroom (2 queens), shares a patio with the house, and has its own private entrance, a mini-kitchen, dining area, full bathroom, and lounge space.

A fifth bedroom (1 queen) is located under the house and is available by request only. It is the least glamorous space on the property, but it does have its own private entrance, private bathroom, and a small view of the ocean. Nobody would choose this room as their first choice if they came by themselves, but the space is popular for those seeking more privacy when they come in big groups.

The entire house and loft space are 100% solar-powered! I have just upgraded my system so that the house has more power than ever before, but everyone still must do their part to conserve energy and water, especially during cloudy days. The larger the group, the more this applies... and hope for few cloudy days!

GUEST ACCESS
Groups of up to 8 people will have access to all of the main house, including the large kitchen with plenty of cooking supplies. Groups of more than 8 people will have access to the main house and the new loft space, which also has its own kitchen space and even an additional bathroom. (Small groups can access the loft at an additional cost.)

You will also have access to the driveway that easily fits four cars or more, the newly remodeled wood deck, the palapa hut with a hammock, BBQs, and - saving the best for last - all of the trails that lead to hidden beaches in every direction.

Guests can rent stand-up paddleboards and kayaks that are similar to the ones featured in the pictures. They are typically available for rent down in the bay below, so you don't have to carry the boards up and down the hill by yourself. All guests using the paddleboards do so at their own risk, but taking the boards out into the ocean promises to be an adventure of a lifetime!

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
If you arrive during daylight hours, local celebrity Carmen will be waiting for you at the house and will help you get all settled in. If you arrive after dark, please plan to meet Carmen by the mini market off the main highway. Either way, enjoy the bumpy dirt road for the last two miles of the journey. Drive slowly around the twists and turns, and know that this is where the adventure truly begins!!

For additional cost and with advanced notice, we can also offer all-day wine tours. After years of providing these tours, we have all the best connections at all the best wineries.

As I live near the border and Carmen lives just a couple minutes away from Ensenada Escape, Carmen will be your best point of contact during your stay.

SPECIAL DEALS
Need something last-minute? If you send me a message ahead of time, I will usually drop the price for non-holiday weeknights IF they are available during the following week. Usually, though, nearly all weekends get booked weeks or months in advance.

An Experience to Remember
OK.. 1st of all.. Chris was awesome!!!! I want to give him 10 stars as a host.. He simply was available and helpful every step of the way. However, I also want to give an honest review of the experience I had so that families planning a vacation can do what is best for them. Lets start The good... Unbelievable scenery. Gorgeous views. Private beach area and immaculate home. Very clean. The bad... Before I say... its bad.. its not bad... Its just different and i think many families would want to know what is and isn't going to be available so they can make wise decisions... So here we go.. In short. This is a place is just a little rustic.. No TVS. No ice Maker. Internet is good.. not great... Toilet paper has to go in the trash, not the toilet. The road to get to the homes is dirt and very bumpy. So, a truck or all wheel drive is best. Grocery store is 15-20 minutes away as are most restuaruants/entertainment. No pool or jacuzzi. Laslty, the stove didn't light without a little effort. However, lots of games in the house, unbelievable views, and to be honest, no TV was actually refreshing for a week and we had a great time. One last point.. This host was so awesome he also has small rentals on the beach in Tijuana and my fiance's flight was delayed a day and he offered to have me stay a night for FREE. Just a great guy! Thanks!!! The host is on premises so everything was

Guy's getaway
This property was just what a low key group of guys was looking for before one of them got married! Location was incredible, if you love views and the ocean and some quiet! Jose Luis was THE BEST and went out of his way to make the stay incredible. He drove us around, showed us around, gave local advice and was a definite BONUS to this trip!!

Unquestionably, the most stunningly beautiful place in Mexico
Our family stayed 4 nights at Ensenada Escape and we didn’t want to go home!! The pictures don’t do it justice, it’s truly even more beautiful than it looks. The main house was very comfortable, it had everything we needed, the view from our bedroom window was insane, waking up to that beauty every morning was truly glorious. The loft house was very comfortable and beautiful with all the comforts of home. We felt very safe there. Jose Luis was always available to take us paddle boarding or whatever else we wanted to do, he was a great host, he speaks perfect English also. We went fishing off of the rocks down below us and caught dinner almost every night. We felt like we had our own private beach and our own little piece of paradise. My family and I are planning to return as soon as possible, we highly recommend this place to everyone.

Best Place I've Stayed In Mexico
Like the title says this was by far the best place to stay in Mexico. Pictures cannot even do the view justice. All of the bedrooms in the main house have a spectacular view of the cove below. The only problem we had the whole trip was that one of the toilets would not flush sometimes and the water pressure for the kitchen sink had an issue once but that's all. Jose Luis is the best! If you don't speak much Spanish he can help you out with whatever you want to do. During our trip with 9 people we rented a van and took a trip to the wineries in La Valle De Guadalupe the first day of our stay and the second day went paddle boarding in the cove. Both trips Jose Luis facilitated everything to make it as worry and hassle free as possible. I personally come to Mexico very often and I would recommend this place to people who go frequently as well as people that are going to Mexico for their first trip. As a matter of fact right when I got home I was talking with my parents and recommended it to them for a friends birthday. Thanks a bunch Jose Luis you made this trip really special!

About the host

Hosted by Chris Tougher

Host profile image
Hi, I'm Chris! I've found that there's nothing better than heading down to Baja for the greatest adventures ever! Come see what Baja is all about and come see for yourself why it's just better down here!

Why they chose this property

I initially was looking for a place just on the other side of the US-Mexico border for an easily accessible weekend getaway. But when I found this house - about two hours south of the border - you'll see for yourself how there is just nothing else like it.

The house is definitely off the beaten path - or, more specifically, it's at the end of a twisty, bumpy dirt road. But when you drive over the crest of that final hill and see the Pacific Ocean stretching along the coastline forever and you realize that you're going to be able to stay at this house for as long as you want, the feeling you get is like none other.

What makes this property unique

When you walk into the main house, you'll be swept off your feet by the living room's two huge windows overlooking the bay below.

Instead of staring at a TV all weekend, you'll be captivated by these two windows - call them your giant plasma TVs if you must - and you'll be transfixed by amazing sunrises, morning fog rolling down the mountain, midday sunshine twinkling off the ocean, birds swooping by, boats meandering along, and maybe even some whales spouting off in the distance.

Not only does the house comfortably fit 10+ guests, but now there is a new loft space to fit four more guests, as well. The loft is separated from the house by an awesome courtyard and has its own separate entrances as, well.
