The name 'Zandoli' means 'lizard' in the local French based creole spoken by the bi-lingual islanders on the beautiful island of St Lucia. This exotic house with its sensuous style of easy luxury and separate cottage - Ti Zan - set on an acre of hillside two minutes walk from the beach, combines the best of Caribbean architecture with a hint of the East, to create a villa of exceptional tropical flair, character and ambiance. With its typical West Indian woodwork, hand made Demerra and louvered windows, vaulted Indonesian style wooden shingled roofs, organic mix of natural stone, marble, wood and glass, burnt orange exterior, outdoor showers, stone and boulder enclosed pool set in lush gardens, and beautiful art collection, this stylish home provides a great location for an exceptional Caribbean villa experience.
Located at Becune Point, Cap Estate, Zandoli overlooks Rodney Bay and Pigeon island and offers offers dramatic, 180 degree, views of the Caribbean Sea. Nestled on a hilltop, Zandoli is a 2 minute walk to St Lucia's most famous beach, and 5 minute walk to Pigeon island, a Historic Park with exotic ruins, home to St Lucia's famous Jazz Festival. Zandoli is 5 minutes away from the village of Gros Islet, famous for its Friday night street fish and music 'jump ups', and the heart of the Tourism Industry, Rodney Bay Village and Marina with their many restaurants and music spots. Fitness, fishing, sailing, golfing are all within easy reach.
The main house is designed around three pavilions on different levels, linked by enclosed bridges framing dramatic views. The second and third pavilions, flanking the main pavilion on either side, accommodate two equally appointed spacious (320 and 300 square feet respectively) Master Bedroom suites with unique, king sized, four poster Balinese bamboo beds. Bedroom number 3, located at garden level, has its own private patio onto the garden, with a queen size bed with oriental bed-head, unique Mexican antique furnishings and bathroom en-suite. Bedroom four features a queen size Balinese bamboo bed, and Indonesian furniture. This opens onto the pool deck and garden. Each bedroom opens onto exquisite sea views and private patio leading to pool and garden areas.
Master Bedroom Suites (1&2) feature large, specialty river stone, tumbled marble and slate tiled bath areas with outdoor showers featuring 12' wide shower 'rain heads', as well as bath tubs. Outdoor showers are ideal for enjoying the romance of showering under the tropical moonlight and stars! Bathrooms 3 & 4 are equipped with showers, and have their own special atmosphere.
The handmade wooden door of the main pavilion opens onto a 700 square foot marble tiled sitting and dining area capturing magnificent panoramas of the Caribbean Sea and Pigeon Island. This opens directly onto spacious covered decks overlooking the ocean, perfect for dining, listening to the surf, or simply absorbing the beauty of the surrounding landscape. A modern kitchen with rustic ambiance opens directly onto the main deck. A large sunny room capturing spectacular views with TV (and Cable) and overstuffed Indonesian bamboo sofas is located at garden level in the main pavilion, and opens onto a rustic stone titled pool patio featuring a wet bar and swimming pool surrounded by sun deck framed by large boulders, colorful gardens and dramatic ocean vistas; 'a wonderful place' - as one guest remarks - 'to sip Francesca's (the housekeeper's) wonderful run punch and watch the spectacular sunset!' The villa is accessed by road, a short section of which (approximately 3 minutes) is unpaved - causing our guests to say that it puts them immediately in the mood for 'Island Life". We usually recommend that our guests opt for an SUV type vehicle if they are interested in renting given that it provides superb access to off-the-beaten track gems in St Lucia.

About Len Ishmael
I built my home Zandoli, and cottage Ti Zan 12 years ago, on a site which I had waited to be put on the market for as long as I can remember - because of its simply stunning, panoramic views.
Why Len Ishmael chose Cap Estate
The villa is close to everything - a 5 minute car ride to shopping, banks, restaurants, live music, and within walking distance to the beach - yet an oasis of tranquility to retreat too, incredibly private, intimate and romantic - with arguably one of the most stunning views on island! It has been a great spot for not only couples, friends and but families wanting a spacious well appointed villa, with awesome views providing a home away from home in which to enjoy each others company.
What makes this Villa unique
I fell in love with this site years ago because of its proximity by foot to the island's most fabulous beaches, places of interest such as Pigeon island's unique cultural heritage, historic forts and stunning views, the rustic village of Gros Islet - allowing guests to explore local life and cuisine all within a very small radius - but more than anything else, the incredible quality of its views. Many of our guests claim the villa to be more beautiful than its photos.

Best view on the island!
Our family of four spent four fabulous nights at Zandoli! Our favorite was the view from the covered deck every morning, birds chirping, waves crashing and leaves rusting in the wind, it was truly an idealic way to start each day!
I highly recommend Zandoli for a relaxing, away from it all, family vacation! There was plenty of room for our family to roam! We walked to the beach at Sandals and hiked at Pigeon Island. We explored Rodney Bay and spent four additional nights in Marigot Bay. The road to Zandoli is an adventure, a 4x4 is necessary, but when you arrive, the privacy and beauty of Zandoli is breathtaking!
Fabulous villa and wonderful location
Zandoli really is a wonderful place to stay. The top floor is spacious and open and the deck and pool area are great, the views are really spectacular. The second two bedrooms on the ground floor are a little small and if you are in the garden room you have to wait until the alarm in the house is turned off in the morning before you can get up! There is a relatively easy stroll down to the beach and to Pigeon Island (better value to pay to get on the island which includes loungers on that beach that pay for them on the public beach). The downside is that the road to the villa is VERY rough, taxis will not attempt it. You really need a four wheel drive vehicle, preferably one with a high clearance! And on the road up there is unfortunately a huge pile of rubbish which has been strewn around by animals - apparently it is where all the villas leave their bags of trash but the refuse collectors will not go up the rough road to collect it! The villa owners/occupiers of the villas on Cap Estate should really be ashamed of themselves to allow such a disgusting eyesore to accumulate.
Thank you for your review! We are delighted that you found the villa to be a wonderful place for your stay over the New Year's festivities. We would like to take this opportunity to address a couple of issues mentioned. The villa has four bedrooms three of which, including one on the ground floor, are ensuite, generously proportioned and are all of equal size. The fourth, with a queen size bed and its own shower/bathroom facilities is a bit smaller. I also want to reassure all guests that the garbage at Zandoli is taken off-property several times per week and transported to officially designated disposal sites, and not to the site described. We take our environmental responsibility seriously. I am nonetheless concerned by the issue raised and have contacted several of the neighbors in the area to ensure that this new practice does not continue, and am most appreciative to our guest for bringing this to our attention. Thanks again!
My family of six enjoyed a lovely week at Villa Zandoli! When we arrived by transfer through Christopher Travel (highly recommended) my daughters went out onto the deck and told us they may not leave the house the entire week! The views are just as incredible as the pictures (if not better). We opted not to rent a vehicle and use taxis throughout our stay and were very happy with that decision. The roads in St. Lucia are narrow and in many places congested. It was a pleasure to just sit back and enjoy the views while someone else drove us to our destinations. We found a driver we really liked at the taxi stand at the Sandals Grand and we arranged for him to pick us up as needed at the bottom of the property for our planned events. The fees were very affordable and we didn't have to worry with directions and driving! The beach by Sandals Grand is very nice with two beach stands offering drinks and food at reasonable prices. The beach at Pigeon Island is also very nice and their restaurant is very good also. Be prepared that the vendors on the beach by Sandals will approach you; however, if you ask them to leave you alone, they generally will keep their distance. Benny's boat tours was amazing. We scheduled a private day tour with them and went to the mineral springs, waterfall, snorkeling, and lunch in Castries. Not to be missed.
We also spent a day in Marigot Bay. It is quite lovely and peaceful watching the sailboats and yachts come in and out! We also did a couple of days at the beach at Cas En Bas! The food at Marjories is some of the best we ate the entire trip. The escargot was amazing! The girls enjoyed riding the horses and watching the kite surfers was very enjoyable!
The Friday night Jump Up was a lot of fun!
Velda was very friendly and helpful! She took great care of the house and had beautiful live flowers waiting for us upon arrival. She was very accomodating and gave us a great tour of the property and how to get around. Be prepared that the trail to get to the beach/road is gravel. When wet, the gravel becomes loose and slippery. Bring appropriate footwear to navigate that path. It can be somewhat tedious if you are carrying beach gear/groceries/etc. Again, we chose to have our transportation meet us at the bottom of the property as they preferred to meet us on the paved part of Bamboo road at the bottom of the house, instead of coming up the unpaved driveway!
Amazing vacation! Villa Zandoli was incredible
I recently booked Zandoli for 4 nights with a group of 8. We were not sure what to expect but we LOVED LOVED LOVED every bit of our stay here. The villa is absolutely gorgeous and spacious, the location is incredible, located at the top of a hill overlooking the marina- the views were breathtaking!!
The rooms were all spacious with a lovely breeze to cool you down. The pool and back yard were perfect for hanging out during the day and enjoying the sun. We could not stop taking pictures of the house it was incredible!
The housekeeper was lovely and very helpful. You will need a car or a driver to get to the house because the road is unpaved and you are going all the way up a hill, but otherwise you need nothing else!!
I will definitely stay here again if/when I return to St. Lucia!!
We recently returned from a week stay at villa Zandoli. Our group of six adults had a fantastic stay. Our experience and observations mirror those of the review submitted by Richard P. We loved the open concept, the two levels of decks, privacy, and beautiful furnishings. The photos don't do full justice to the villa and the views afforded from the hillside.
Housekeeping services by Velda were top shelf. She is a wonderful person and we enjoyed getting to know her throughout the week.
Zandoli = Heaven on earth
The villa is beautiful, well taken care of and in a great location. It is perched on a hill side facing Pigeon Island where you have a view of beautiful blue water, beaches and the bay to the south. I cannot tell you how much time we spent sitting on the deck looking out towards Pigeon Island and listening to the waves. It was a great way to begin and end every day of the vacation. The pool is really nice when you get hot and there is a grill and bar downstairs to enjoy your time around the pool area. The two main bedrooms are large and the bathrooms have great open air showers. The other bedrooms are good size as well and have their own bath rooms. There are two living areas to use if you want to relax indoors but they both open wide to the outdoors. The housekeeper, Diane a.k.a. Velda, is really friendly and took great care of the house during our stay and was really helpful if we had any questions.
Below are a few items for future renters to consider. Some of these are duplicates from other reviews but very valid. These are not complaints but if you know these up front you’ll have a perfect vacation.
1. The road to the villa is a little rough so I recommend using a SUV although it is passable by car or van. If you do a lot of driving the path becomes tedious to drive multiple times every day but the view makes it all worthwhile.
2. The villa is not air conditioned and for travelers like myself that are used to AC it can be hot at times but my fix was to jump in the pool or sit on the deck and enjoy the breeze. While sleeping… keep the fans pointed on you and you’ll be comfortable.
3. Bugs…This is an open air villa so use bug spray and the mosquito nets. The book in the villa shares tips and was a great resource. Keep in mind much of the island is a rain forest so there are going to be bugs and if you use insect repellant you will be just fine.
4. The internet connection is a single ethernet cord but honestly I recommend that you don’t waste your time on a computer. I actually stayed disconnected from both the internet and cell phone and it was one of the best vacations I have had in years!
The villa is close to Rodney Bay which offers restaurants, shopping, a grocery store, fresh fruits and veggies from local farmers and a casino. If you are willing to drive you can experience the entire island from Zandoli. St. Lucia and Zandoli are close to heaven on earth. Happy travels!
