Why Björn Ragnar Lárusson chose Iceland

We have loved this area, and in 2009 my father bought this piece of land and build a nice house on it. Privacy and the view is the the biggest asset plus sitting in the hot pot in the evening after a long day of working or traveling.

What makes this cottage unique

Rather close to Reykjavik area and to major attraction in south west Iceland.

Quiet, secluded, comfortable, and beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what a great place! Everything was comfortable and in order, our stay here was wonderful! Secluded and quiet, but not too remote, lots of fun things to see and do within short drives. The view was spectacular! Hot tub was great fun, we spent an hour soaking and watching a very dynamic Northern Lights display our first night there, amazing! The Holiday House was great, we loved it. Thanks!

very lovely, remote property.

  • 5 of 5

The Holiday House is lovely. It is a place to completely unwind. Kitchen well stocked.

Comfortably furnished. Bring extra towels as there are just enough for each person renting.

A beautiful fireplace warms the main room very efficiently. The Holiday House was a perfect

way to end a 10 day sojourn in what is a beautiful country, Iceland.

Thank you Bjorn! We may see you again.

Great spot with unique geology

  • 5 of 5

Bjorn's house is beautiful and comfortable. The location is very private, yet only 15 minutes away from the heart of the Thingvellir National Park. The geology is wonderful, and the house sits, literally, squarely in the rift between the European and North American plates. Happily, we had anticipated that there would be few (if any) convenient restaurants, and had stopped in Selfoss to pick up food/drink. Other visitors would be similarly well advised to bring provisions, and enjoy their time in this lovely spot. One thing that would be helpful is a "house book" with directions for appliances, for closing the house on leaving, etc.

The Great and Not So Great

  • 3 of 5

Our second time visiting Iceland together we decided to not stay in the city and chose this vacation rental. Our goal was to find a quiet, beautiful setting in a central location to most of Southern Iceland's attractions. Also, the house rental was less expensive for 4 people than 2 rooms at a 4 star hotel. These goals were absolutely accomplished!

We loved the peaceful setting, great views and extra space the home rental provided. During our 5 day stay, we were able to see so many amazing attractions within driving distance during a day trip. The positive features of the house included 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a wrap-around deck with awesome views and a glass-covered hot tub. There is room to sleep up to 8 and plenty of space for dining and relaxing.

Now for the reason I only rated it 3 stars. This house does have WIFI contrary to the statement by the owner in Homeaway. I don't understand this. Is it a guarded secret? The password is in the Guest Book. You have to find it for yourself pretty much the same as operating the appliances, hot tub, door locks, t.v, music and video. Sorry but these things are not obvious to people from other countries where things are designed differently. The owner provides little or no instruction.

The satellite tv did not work our entire stay. The front door would not lock. The owner provided 2 bath towels for 4 people and 1 pillow case per person. There were 8 pillows in the house but you better bring your own towels and linens since the pillows are very worn and soiled and you will not nearly have enough dry towels if you shower and use the hot tub the same day. And speaking of soiled, the owner did communicate that housekeeping is not included in the rent so we must clean up after ourselves. We did a minimal amount of cleaning and left the place cleaner than we found it. The floors looked like they had been smeared with a cold dirty mop before our arrival and I could not estimate the last time the house was thoroughly dusted. I wouldn't leave my own home in this condition when having guests and certainly not if they were paying me for their stay.

So the bottom line is this, we enjoyed our stay. We made due by bringing our own towels and wished we had brought some pillow cases. This house is a good choice if you want to see Southern Iceland by car and you bring some of your own comfort items.

Owner's Response: I´m sorry for the mistake of not providing enough towels for you, that is a mistake. But I´m only an email away or a call, and we would have been to you within an hour to correct the towels and would be able to show you how out side door in Iceland work. Just need to lift the swift upwards after closing the door so the pins that holds the door works then you can lock it. We have strong wind here so we need three dot locking system. There are eight pillows if there are eight people, normally we only use one pillow per person. I really hope you had a good stay even this did not meet the standards. Björn
