About the property

Spacious airy flat, 5 minutes from the Minster, combines the best of old and new

36 County House is a spacious and airy apartment, that sleeps 6 in comfort. Sleeping arrangements are split across three bedrooms on two floors - two king sized and one rooms with full sized bunk beds. The flat has an en suite shower room in the downstairs bedroom and there is a house bathroom (shower over bath) on the upper floor.

The kitchen has all the conveniences you would expect - microwave, standard oven, hob, kettle, toaster - and enough crockery and flatware for six. The living/dining room is a beautiful bright space with light streaming in through 3 metre high Georgian windows.

Please note that seven days is the minimum booking term at Christmas and New Year, and during August.


The flat has secure parking for one car. Additional cars can be parked at nearby car parks.

Guest Access

Guests have free access to all areas of the apartment, although it is requested that the stairwells and common halls are kept clear, quiet and peaceful as a courtesy to our neighbours.

Interaction with Guests

I live a short distance away from the flat. Access is generally via a key safe that I will tell you more about on booking. I am always available at the end of the phone to answer any questions you may, however.

The Neighbourhood

County House is located just outside York's historic city walls, a mere five minute flat walk from the Minster. There is no shortage of great restaurants and cafes on the doorstop, and a good break can be had by any age group.

In addition, the apartment is right next door top a Sainsbury's supermarket, so getting supplies in for tea couldn't be easier.

Getting Around

York's main railway station is an easy 15 minute walk from the flat. It is a very easy city to get around on foot.

Other Things to Note

There is a secure bike shed for visitors who wish to cycle. York is a great city for bikes - especially if you don't mind cobbles.

What makes this apartment unique

The massive Georgian windows at County House flood the rooms with light even on the dullest days. And being able to step out of your door and be amongst the hubbub of York in minutes is lovely. Coffee shops, little one off boutiquey shops, world class cakes (I'm looking at YOU, Betty's) make York a very special place to visit.

Where do you live?

Convenient and comfortable apartment

We stayed at this property for three days in June and were so happy with its convenience. It is located just steps away from a grocery store and just a few minute walk to York's city center. It was quiet and separate from the main hub of activity, yet all the activity was easy and quick to access. The owner communicated with us in a timely manner and provided everything we needed to enjoy the apartment. It was comfortable and clean for my family of four, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would absolutely stay here again.

A Long Weekend in York

The accommodation was exactly what we were looking for with a bedroom and Ensuite on the entry level for my Mother and a further 2 bedrooms, dressing area and bathroom on the upper level for my wife and I and children.

The accommodation was easy to find and very clean and comfortable.

The closeness of the accommodation to the City was perfect and York is so easy to get around by foot. We parked the car on the first day and didn't use it again until we came to leave.

Having WiFi access was a real benefit and the closeness to Sainsburys was also great.

Would definitely stay here again.

Loft style apartment in grand historic hospital beside York’s city walls

Spacious three bedroom apartment in a historic hospital building cleverly converted into flats. Great location for a family like ours, right next to a supermarket and easy walking distance to all the sights in York. We stayed here with our four boys for three nights in December. The bedrooms, bathrooms and living spaces were great but the kitchen is very small and not well set up if you are planning to regularly feed six. The dishwasher was tiny and did not clean properly so we ended up washing everything by hand. Enormous living room windows let in lots of light but the view is of the supermarket carpark. Highlights were walking the walls, discovering a ruined abbey in the Botanic Gardens, royal carriages in the railway museum, climbing the ruins of Clifford’s Tower as it snowed, and learning about York’s chocolate history in the museum opposite.

Lovely Long Weekend With Family

We have just returned from a wonderful three nights stay in Alis' s beautiful property. There were 5 of us, two adults and three children aged 10, 13 and 16. There was plenty of space and Alis had thought of everything we might need. The accommodation was of an extremely high standard, clean, stylish and very comfortable. The property is ideally situated , right next door to Sainsburys and a couple of minutes walk from the city centre. The parking space was very handy although we walked everywhere after we arrived. Little touches such as the games and DVDs for the children to use and the chilled bottle of Prosecco in the fridge were so thoughtful and made us feel so welcome. Alis has been helpful and friendly in all our communication since booking and the instructions we received regarding arrival and picking up of the keys etc was very clear. I would highly recommend this lovely apartment and we would definitely like to return.
