The area

Anstruther is one of the East Neuk of Fife’s favourite towns. Its position on the north side of the Firth of Forth gives it outstanding views south to the East Lothian coast, Berwick Law, Bass Rock and the Isle of May National Nature Reserve. Boats to the Isle of May sail from Anstruther harbour from May to September, making it a popular destination for birdwatchers. The town itself boasts a picturesque harbour, the excellent Scottish Fisheries Museum, world famous fish and chip shop and plenty of other good restaurants and convivial pubs. Anstruther also has beautifully preserved and restored buildings, two sandy beaches and a links golf course.

The Fife Coastal Path cuts through the town, with Pittenweem an easy mile and a half walk west and Crail four miles east. The trail connects what are, arguably, the most atmospheric and historically intact villages in Scotland. St Andrews, home of golf and of Scotland’s oldest university, is 10 minutes drive away. Regular bus services connect the East Neuk towns and villages.

Anstruther is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes from Edinburgh and 1 hour 45 minutes from Glasgow by car.

Things to do:

Golf! walking, bird-watching, sea swimming, beaches, sailing, pleasure cruises, sea fishing from harbour or boat, visiting cheese factory or craft brewery, painting, art galleries, festivals, visiting historic towns, archaeological sites.

Our home from home

  • 5 of 5

Tired from our journey from Yorkshire, we were delighted to find on our arrival, an apartment as good as

the the photos had suggested. The thoughtful touches of goodies etc., level of equipment and general

ambience was much appreciated. Local amenities such as eateries, newspapers from the post office,

the large coop nearby, the Tahitian Princess story and house, and equally enchanting fishing harbours

up and down the coast, all helped our stay to be a memorable one. Mike Wallis.

Lovely apartment provided an enjoyable stay

  • 5 of 5

A comfortable apartment, with plenty of room for 4 adults. Jane has provided a well equipped and relaxing place to stay. If, in the future, we have the opportunity to return we will certainly do so. Thank you Jane.

Lovely Property

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this apartment ticked the boxes for our family break. On arrival, first impressions were good, the apartment was extremely clean and very spacious. There was a very nice welcome pack of prosecco, shortbread, porridge, milk and plenty of coffee, tea available in the kitchen. The dog really appreciated her pack of chews, ball and bowls. Everything we needed for a week away was there. The kitchen had everything we needed and much more. Plenty of good quality crockery, cutlery and glasses, more than enough to put the dishwasher on once a day. Washing up liquid, spray cleaner, washing powder etc all present in flat to use. Couches in living room were very comfortable, TV was a decent size. Board games in the cupboard were welcomed by the family. My kids had never played Scrabble before. There was also a 2nd TV in the master bedroom which would come in handy if the kids wanted to watch something different. Bedrooms had more than enough storage along with very comfy large beds. The upstairs shower was amazing, the heat and the pressure were great. The kids said the Wi-Fi was fantastic and they wanted to take the reception home with them. The apartment is very near to the harbour area and just up a hill from the famous Chippy and round the corner from a fantastic kids play park. A short walk in the morning down to the Post Office at the harbour will get you your paper and fresh rolls. A slightly longer walk takes you to the Co-Op for a larger shop. All the pubs in the area allowed us in with the dog and children - the kids preferred "The Bank" due to its Wi-Fi. We would definitely recommend staying at this property.

Beautiful gem of a property

  • 5 of 5

We can't thank you enough for allowing us to rent your beautiful apartment ,it was extremely central with great access to all the delights of anstruther .i stayed with my mother and my aunt for our time there ,I have travelled to many places but this house offers everything we needed ...the only downside was that we had to come home ,it was by far the cleanest most comfortable place we have stayed ,and lots of room to roam about in ,fabulous kitchen ,great bedrooms and a lovely staircase to take you to bedrooms on the top floor .

We took the bus to St. Andrews ,only 20 mins there and from the bottom of the street ,we also had great times with the locals in the dreel tavern ,the boathouse and the ship ...lots of lovely walks and shops to visit .

We would definitely love to go back ...so hope to see you soon

Thank you again for such a fantastic break

Stunning apartment with all home comforts and more

  • 5 of 5

We were blessed with a weeks sunshine in April which ensured we had a brilliant family break exploring the beaches and towns of the East Neuk. The beautiful apartment was everything we were looking for - facilities and space were ideal for 5 of a family and 1 large goldendoodle ! Jane was a pleasure to deal with and the welcoming pack was hugely appreciated after a long drive from Glasgow. We'll definitely be back at 8 Union Place for Easter / October breaks in the future.

The East Neuk is perfect for walkers and nature lovers. The Fife Coastal Path offers beautiful beaches and stunning scenery and connects some of Scotland's most picturesque and best preserved towns. For birdwatchers the ferry to the Isle of May NNR leaves Anstruther from April to September. For families there are plenty of clean, sandy beaches and Bankie Park, which has excellent play equipment for children of all ages, is just round the corner. And then, of course there is golf - at its home in St Andrews 15 minutes drive away, or at Anstruther's own 9 hole course.
