Great location, but tired rental: bring tools.
House had many maintenance problems. Dead bugs on floors and bedspreads. 2 baths (listed 2 1/2). Queen and double beds, when listed King and Queen. Half of all lights did not work. One tv did not work. Glass shower door fell in on one of our party and injured her. Issue with hot water. Musty with a dehumidifier that was not running because it was full. However, location is great. 1 mile from lighthouse. Across the street from beach. Quiet (not close to any town). No cell service, no landline. Wifi does work. Vacasa response was a day late for each issue.
Nothing in the house was as presented on the webpage. 1 queen, 1 double and 2 twins. 2 baths, only one with tub. Dead bugs everywhere, floor, bedspreads, in the glassware, cuos, tub, sink. Shower door fell off onto one of our party and injured her. 1/2 of all lights did not work. Beware, no landline phone and no cell service. Musty smell throughout and big dehumidifier downstairs can't keep up. You have to empty frequently. TV upstairs doesn't work. Wifi did work.
The house was lovely. This part of the island is a little remote but beautiful. The beds were really comfy and the home was well stocked. Did see some of the black ants that others were talking about but not too bad. Would recommend.
Our daughter and son in law and we stayed here for a week. We love log cabins and own one of our own. It had everything we needed. It did need some HK tasks such as a new coffee pot, pesticide, a working TV and a working vac but, despite all that, we really enjoyed it! We also rent units so we know how things break at the last minute and it is an island and it was a holiday weekend!
Great location, some pitfalls
This is a cozy log-built house with a lot of charm. You really pay for the location, which can't be beat. Philbin Beach is less than a half mile down the road, and you can literally hear the ocean as you sleep. Location aside though, there are some negatives. Since it is so close to a pond, there are ANTS. Big, black ones, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, in the beds. I stopped counting after I killed a hundred of them, but I probably killed about twice that over the week. Second is the humidity of the house that makes the bathroom floor constantly wet, so much so that we thought something was leaking, and I could see bugs dying in the moisture. It's an older house and there were lots of cobwebs and dead bug everywhere. The washer and dryer are updated, though it was hard to find beach towels. Overall we enjoyed the stay after adapting, but I had expected that for the amount of money charged, there would be less ants and less of a musty kind of experience. It's clear though that a family lived in it at some point and made beautiful memories there, and my family certainly had some good memories, but my kids will always remember it as the house with the ants, the wet bathroom, and the screaming shower.
