About Jo & Alan Carpenter
“From ship to shore” For 16 years Kingston-upon-Thames in Surrey was our UK home where our children Abby and Alasdair grew up. We pursued our careers, Alan in the Automotive Industry and Jo in Financial Services. In 2011 we relocated to Dubai for both work and pleasure and took the opportunity to reshape our set up which included the sale of our UK home and the build of Villa Gabriella. It all started though in 2002 when we headed to Nidri to learn to sail with Abby & Alasdair in tow and very young. Hooked on both sailing and the beauty of the Ionian islands in Spring 2003 we sailed our own yacht, Gabriella, from Isola to Nidri. From summer 2003 until 2010 the highlight of each summer was two weeks afloat in the Ionian. Totally captivated by the islands and their way of life, in 2007 we’d driven up to the land on which Villa Gabriella now stands. One single look at the view was enough to seal the deal. Gabriella, the yacht, was sold in 2010 and the money recycled into the foundations of the villa. From 2010 to 2014 Villa Gabriella was a labour of love. Managed by Steve, long-time Nidri resident and our artistically-inclined project manager, over four years the plot was shaped to allow Villa Gabriella to nestle amongst the trees with minimal disruption to the forest, whilst maximising the very best aspects of a view to die for.
Jo & Alan Carpenter purchased this Villa in 2007

Uniquely private & secluded. Truly breathtaking views. Very luxurious finish, furnishings and linens.
What makes this Villa unique
An extraordinary location and view which enjoys privacy and peace and quiet but is still very close to the busy town of Nidri. You simply never get bored of the outlook and surroundings even if the weather is not that great as the view simply changes. The bird song in the early morning and evening is also wonderful.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at villa Gabriella , 4 adults and 5 children, had an amazing time ! The villa was located high on a hill with outstanding views and a short drive into Nidri. The pool area and eating terrace were brilliant for 2 families and were well used! Jill and Jon who look after the property were wonderful providing knowledge of the local area, offered a babysitting service and made us some local baked treats😁 The area is amazing , beautiful Ionian Islands and it is worth hiring a boat to explore the surrounding islands.
We would definately recommend this villa, and would advise to hire a 4x4 as the road leading up to the villa is unmade and we got stuck on it on one occasion because our hire car wasn't powerful enough.
All in all a lovely family holiday
Thank you for your positive comments, we're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Villa Gabriella and had a lovely family holiday. Like a lot of Greek villas (especially those in tranquil locations with great views) we are up an unmade road and we're sorry you had a problem on one occasion. We do have the road compacted with a heavy road-roller ever other spring and that is scheduled for next spring before the 2020 season which will smooth it out nicely and make the drive simpler for another 18 months.
Dream holliday !
Great & Perfect !
These words summarize the conditions in which we spent the holiday at Villa Gabiella.
Great location, great villa, perfect conditions, and a magnificent view.
Ian and Gill were very nice and always around but extremely discreet.
We will return to this location with pleasure and with the feeling of "home".
Thanks for your kind words. We’re delighted you had a good stay at Villa Gabriella and hope to welcome you back in the future.
Fantastic villa. Outstanding view.
Top-notch place, nestled in the quiet mountain above Nidri. Can’t go wrong here.
Well-stocked and clean kitchen and bathrooms. Property managers available and responsive.
Enjoy the view and the pool and hot-tub. Get the private chef to cook for you. Enioy the movie choices on the on-demand TV.
Did I mention the view?
Only lament is that we didn't spend even more time in the villa (Lefkada beaches and restaurants are so great!).
Faboulas villa stunning views and second to none facilities
Stayed at Villa Gabriella for our second week in the Nidri area in August 2017 and have to say that it is probably the best villa that we have had the pleasure to stay-in on our many trips to Greece.
Our party was 5 adults and 2 children aged 10 and 15.
The views from the villa during the day and the evening are stunning, its also well worth seeing in the sunrise in the early morning as well.
Facilities in the villa are second to none, including cooking, entertainment, music, pool and the gardens.
Its approx 10 mins drive to the nearest taverna (which is very good) and another 5 mins to Nidri and taxi's will bring you back for approx 10 euro's as well.
I throughly recomend Villa Gabriella and would happially consider returning.
Thanks for your kind words Nick. It was a pleasure to have you stay at Villa Gabriella. We hope to welcome you back at some time in the future.
Stunning locacation, stunning villa, stunning experience!
Two weeks in this wonderful villa with views to die for was absolutely amazing. It's truly luxurious with so many treats like the infinity pool with stunning views, a hot tub like no other, the 'man cave'/bar area. Everything gleaming and absolutely spick and span kept that way by with very friendly, helpful and engaging villa maids.
The welcome hamper to see us through the 1st day while we got settled was a real bonus.
The local taverna is great and quality that we wouldn't associate with a small Greek island and there's plenty of other good places nearby to eat out or just have a drink and people or boat watch if you can tear yourself away from villa Gabriella. Nidri's wine shop has an amazing selection of Greek wines, beers and brandies to sample and has a really great 2 hour tasting on a wednesday but a note of caution - take a taxi!
The best holiday villa I have ever stayed in!
Located high above the sea the entire Ionian Sea right across to main land Greece stretched before us very time we swam or ate on the terrace. I lost count of how many cups of tea went cold staring out that view.
The rooms were lovely, the beds comfy, everything available to us in all the ideal place to holiday. We even managed to make the our elderly parents enjoy them selves even though they lacked anything to complain about. A first I believe.
Spring in Greece is utterly beautiful, yes the nights are a little colder but the outdoor heater kept us toasty.
Already planning our next visit! Don't tell to many other people please!!!
Lefkada, a truly beautiful undiscovered island in the Ionian Sea
Lefkada, also known as Lefkas, with an area of 295 sq km, is the fourth largest of the Ionian Islands and has a coastline of 117 km. The easy access to the island across a floating bridge has made it a favourite with holidaymakers. The floating bridge is an excellent feat of engineering and can raise both ends and swivel round on its axis to allow yachts and fishing boats through the channel to the main harbour and down the East coast. This lovely undiscovered island offers fabulous unspoilt beaches all along its coastline and is a boater’s paradise with its multitude of satellite islands. Some of the best known beaches are Porto Katsiki, Kathisma, Pefkoulia. The Prinigponisa satellite islands are Scorpios, owned by the late Aristotle Onassis, Meganisi, Sparti and Madouri owned by the late national poet Aristotle Valaoritis.
The island of Lefkada is lesser known as a holiday destination to a wider audience in comparison to neighbouring Corfu, Paxos and Cephalonia. This of course has ensured that it has maintained much of its character and traditional Greek identity. There are plenty of attractions even for the more discerning traveller. The impressive green landscape offers many beautiful walks for all levels and there is a very good book that can be bought locally with tracks to follow. The long white beaches of the west coast are perfect for sun worshippers and family days out, and the crystal clear waters of the small coves on the east coast are a snorkeler’s paradise. Beautiful old churches dotted around the island, museums in Lefkas Town and archaeological sites close by are great for those looking for a bit of culture whilst on holiday. Lefkada also hosts one of the most famous International Folklore Festivals in Greece during the month of August.
Lefkas Town, 25 mins drive, is the main commercial centre. There is a quayside road south of the causeway entrance with a busy marina. The High Street runs through the centre of town and is also known as the ‘Pazari’, this is the main street for shopping and cafes. A mid-morning coffee in the square is ideal for a break and a perfect opportunity to see the Lefkadians in ‘action’! The architecture has been mainly influenced by the Venetians and the post Byzantine traditions but also by the Turkish and the English. The houses in the main part of the town are two storey buildings, very closely packed, without yards or gardens and with narrow alleyways running between them. It is lovely to walk around the back streets of the town where you are also more likely to see the typical Lefkadian houses wrapped in brightly painted corrugated iron.
Geni, 15 mins drive, is a pretty little coastal village on the east coast with an abundance of great fish tavernas located on the water's edge.
Nidri, 5 mins drive, is the primary holiday resort on Lefkas. There are a variety of tavernas, restaurants and cafes here, also a handful of bars and a couple of nightclubs. The majority of shopping and tourist facilities are on the main street. On the seafront, known as the ‘Paralia’, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Pringiponissa islands - amongst which is Scorpios, owned by the Onassis family.
Ag. Nikitas, 35 mins drive, on the north-west tip of the island, is a pretty little village surrounded by fabulous beaches such as Pefkoulia, Kathisma and Kalamitsi. The nucleus of the village has been placed under preservation order, thus maintaining the traditional Ionian ambience.
Syvota Bay, 20 mins drive, is in the south-east at the head of a large bay and has an outstanding natural harbour. Syvota is wonderful for an evening meal with great fish tavernas by the sea.
Vassiliki, 25 mins drive, in the south is a self-contained tourist resort with a full range of facilities. The harbour is lined with restaurants and cafes and the main street has a fair number of shops. Many sailing companies operate from here and you may hire windsurf boards on a daily or hourly basis. Vassiliki has a ferry port operating a service to Cephalonia and Ithaca.
Motorboat hire is a must as it can open up a realm of uninhabited beaches and coves. The motorboat includes the provision of a map of the boating area, buoyancy aids, flares, oars and anchors. Detailed instructions will also be given for operation and mooring and a full local back-up service is provided. There are many small deserted coves on the coast and excellent snorkeling areas where you can enjoy the local marine life such as Sea Urchins, Sea cucumbers, Red Star Fish and when overturning stones or rocks perhaps you may find Brittle Starfish or even Octopus!
