Telling the story of an epic love affair, this glamorous 6 bedroom, 4 bathroom Georgian town house for 12 (and up to 16 guests) in Bath's beautiful city centre will have you spellbound. Home to famous historic resident, the gorgeous Lady Emma Hamilton, an English beauty, style icon and the great love of Admiral Horatio Nelson, this unique house captures her incredible life story with verve and charm.
This romantic house has classic Georgian features with high ceilings, elegant sash windows, elaborate marble and cast iron decorative fire places, and an original Georgian range in the basement. Richly furnished throughout with sumptuous fabrics, glittering mirrors and charming pictures, this lovely house combines contemporary home comforts with dramatic style.
There are two large reception rooms on the ground and first floors and all six bedrooms are ranged over the second and third floor and at basement level.
A smart ground floor entrance with broad staircase leads to the grand first floor living and dining room with traditional Georgian wedding doors opening to a splendid kitchen. There are three plush velvet sofas to seat 9, a couple pouf stools and a large TV and DVD over an elaborate marble fireplace. Long extending dining tables can seat 8 to 16. Pictures of Lady Emma Hamilton and Nelson gaze from the walls opposite lavish papered alcoves reflected in vast mirrors. A gold dresser holds an I-pod player (with adapter for other devices) along with extra table-ware and a selection of films.
The large fitted kitchen is topped with black and gold granite and a central island with a large 5-ring hob at the center has 4 bar stools for drinks or treats. There is an oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer combined, large fridge and separate freezer. Cupboards are generously stocked with crockery and cooking implements should you wish to entertain a large gathering.
On a half-landing heading up is a smart cloakroom with hand basin and WC.
The Ground Floor has another handsome living room with traditional wedding doors that open to an atmospheric kitchen diner with grand smoked glass mirror over an elaborate decorative marble fireplace. The richly decorated living room with pictures of Nelson and his beloved Emma has elegant sash windows, and library papered alcoves. There are two large plush velvet sofas to seat 6, a large TV and DVD with a selection of films, and an I-pod player (with adaptor for other devices).
On the Second Floor is a lovely master bedroom and very impressive master bathroom that can be used as a resplendent ensuite facility. The spacious and romantic bedroom, representing the story of Emma's life in Naples, married to Sir William Hamilton, has 3 large sash windows overlooking Edward Street and a decorative fireplace with carved gold mirror over. Two 3' beds zip and link to become a 6' double. There is a chest of drawers and dressing table with a wardrobe in an alcove cupboard. A large double sofa-bed and coffee table are comfortably positioned by a large TV with DVD and a selection of films.
The stylish black and white bathroom has a large central free-standing bathtub with shower hand set. Either side of an original fireplace are two hand-basins with storage under. There is also a large shower, a WC and a fitted storage cupboard.
On the Third Floor are three further bedrooms and a bathroom and at the very top of the stairs is a selection of books. The bedrooms subtly tell Emma's life story. One bedroom in rich walnut colors with an original cast iron fire-place, has two 3' zip and link beds that can become a 6' double, an oak chest, a wardrobe and an easy chair with side table. It tells of Emma's humble beginnings as Amy Lyon, the daughter of a poor Farrier.
The next bedroom in russet stripes, has two 3' zip and link beds that can become a 6' double, a chest of drawers, wall hooks only for clothing and a plush stool. This room describes her life as young Emma, a maid, tavern girl and dancer in London.
The final bedroom on this floor is black and silver with an original fireplace, a 5' king bed, chest of drawers, wardrobe, easy chair and side table. It represents her rise to fame to become Emma Hart, a respectable and frequently painted London Lady.
A smart bathroom on this floor has a large shower, hand-basin with storage under and WC.
Down the stairway from the Ground Floor living room is another bathroom on a half landing, with a small and snugly fitted bath (with shower over), a hand basin with storage under and WC.
The large comfortable Master bedroom downstairs representing Nelson's hideaway at Merton, was the original Georgian kitchen and retains a magnificent cooking range, oven alcoves, large dresser and quarry tiled floor. There are two 3' beds that zip and link to become a 6' double, a solid oak chest of drawers and large wardrobe. A big double sofa-bed piled with cushions is beside a TV with a selection of films and books above on the shelf.
The second bedroom in taupe and gold has an original cast iron fireplace and garden views and is Emma's Retreat. Two 3' beds can zip and link to become a 6' double. There is an antique chest of drawers and built into an alcove is a wardrobe.
There is a neat under stairs cloakroom with a hand-basin and WC and a small separate shower room.
Outside, the walled courtyard garden has benches and a table with 6 chairs for drinks and alfresco dining.
We used this property for a hen weekend for 14 people and it's was amazing.
The location is central and within walking distance to everything. The price was very reasonable for the amount of people staying. Would stay here in a heart beat again.
