Over twenty fantastic beaches have transformed Albufeira, who was a former fishing village into a world-class city. These numerous beaches along its coastline, all different and all as enjoyable as one another: small beaches, secluded coves surrounded by ocher cliffs and long stretches of golden sand dunes and end overlooking the calm, warm waters. You'll find it in the Algarve, especially around Albufeira, and this explains its appeal as a leading holiday destination in Europe.
The city is bordered by a coastline with three beautiful long beaches accessible from the house in about twenty minutes walk: Peneco, Pescadores and Inatel. These beaches are spectacular long stretches of sand, bordered by the golden cliffs that are so characteristic of this region. Peneco beach, also known as Praia do Tunnel (Tunnel beach), in front of the old city center and is accessible through a tunnel in the cliffs overlooking a large balcony lined with outdoor cafes watching the beach. A pleasant footpath runs along the foot of the cliff to the nearby marina. Praia dos Pescadores (Fisherman's Beach) is the result of the Peneco beach, and as the name suggests, natural harbor dozens of colorful fishing boats that serve to remind visitors of the region in the past and offer delightful walks explorers around the coves and caves along the coast. The Inatel beach lies between the Inatel complex and the rocks that depart from the cliffs to the sea.
For those wishing to leave the center of Albufeira and experience the diversity of beaches in the area, to the west, São Rafael is a perfect example of the magical effect of the combination of sea erosion and wind, rocks and water. Carved cliffs, crevices, rock pools and solitary rocks out of the water characterize this beach and provide a beautiful setting for a sun-drenched day. Still further west, Praia do Evaristo is a rocky beach with sea life is very rich and where divers delight in the abundance of barnacles, mussels, limpets and shoals of fish. To the east of Praia Oura and the vast Praia da Falésia. There are beaches for all tastes along the coast, many of which fly the blue flag indicating modern facilities and a wide range of water sports, or secluded beaches where you can simply sunbathe and enjoy the wonders of nature.
Leisure and gastronomy go hand in hand with the sun and beaches of Albufeira. Fresh fish or lobster straight from the fishing boat are the delights of the region, although the traditional cuisine of fishermen is just as enticing. The coriander and cockles, mackerel or sardines cooked with tomato or oregano and sardines in corn are some of the local dishes, not forgetting the favorite dish of the region, cooked seafood in the "cataplana" (a round copper container with lid closed). In Albufeira, abundance of restaurants you can enjoy the Portuguese cuisine or international cuisine. Right next to the house, we recommend a restaurant "A Cocheira" where you can taste the excellent regional cuisine in a friendly atmosphere with an excellent quality / price.
The nightlife is one of the liveliest in the Algarve, whether in the streets of the city, in the long busy street known as "The Strip" or in the quieter area of the marina.
Various shops offer everything you want, the most exclusive boutiques in shopping shopping street in the center of the town and The Strip. Small shops in the center of the ancient city are ideal to find local crafts, and the market is appreciated by the visitors, with many stalls selling fresh produce and creative hand made articles. A large shopping center is located outside the city, with cinemas, fast food outlets and an enormous supermarket in addition to all shops.
Albufeira is proud of its historical roots despite the damage sustained during the 1755 earthquake. The Bronze Age and Roman rule and Arabic have left their marks there. The charming old part of the city shows traces of the strong influence of Arab culture in the region, mainly the narrow winding streets, whitewashed houses and the Moorish arch on the Travessa da Igreja Velha, indicating the site a mosque and the first church in the city. L'Horloge, with its bell wrought iron supports, and the bell tower of the eighteenth century the Matriz church are local references and the Misericórdia church still has some Gothic doors, arches and apses in what was once the chapel local governors of the fifteenth century.
Golfers have several courses in the area: the challenging course of Salgados near Armacao de Pera, 9-hole and 9 hole Balaia the Sheraton's Pine Cliffs resort behind the Falésia beach.
The attraction of Albufeira persists over time. Centuries after the Moors were accosted and had given the Arabic name it still bears, which means "Fortress of the Sea", the natural beauty of Albufeira continues to charm foreign visitors.
