About Iain Massey

We are an English family who live in Manchester in the north of England. We have been visiting Florida for more than 20 years.

We run a business in the UK and our sucess is built on great customer service, we adopt the same attitude with renting our vacation home.

Iain Massey purchased this house in 2006

Why Iain Massey chose Alden Pines

We first visited Pine Island as we wanted to go to Cayo Costa, a beautiful unspoilt barrier Island accessible only by boat and they run from points on Pine Island.

Having previously only been to Sanibel and Captiva we immediatley fell in love with the tranquility of the place and decided to shelve our plans on buying a vacation home in France and look at Pine Island.

We decided to simply drive around the areas of the Island and we knew as soon as we saw this house it was for us.

The area of Bokeelia and Alden pines is like stepping back in time where people have time for each other and are happy to stop for a chat. I have been to many places around the world and the absence of any form of crime or threat in this area is quite unbelievable.

We just love it.

What makes this house unique

The views over the lake from the sitting room whilst having breakfast are with us when we are back home in the cold, wet English winters (and sometimes summers).

We had a great time!

  • 5 of 5

Very nice property. Kitchen was adequately stocked for folks like us who like to cook and eat in. Our favorite part by far was the view and the pool. Loved watching all the birds in the lagoon and sunning by the pool. Pool temperature was refreshing, but we had two weeks of 80+ degree weather. Might be chilly in the winter months. We also rented a golf cart which we used for evening sunsets at the marina. Nice way to get around the area. Overall we loved it and are sad to leave.

Spacious, bright house in lovely location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this lovely house in March and loved it! Overlooking a small pond complete with an occasionally seen alligator and numerous waterbirds (we counted 49 ibis at one time!) it's nature at its best. Ospreys catching fish, ducks frequenting the bird feeders, cardinals and mourning doves in the palm trees. Bird lovers will rejoice here!

Living quarters in the house are on the second floor...no problem if stairs are not an issue.

The huge master suite encompasses one third of the living space and has a very comfortable king bed. Pictures and descriptions of other areas of the house in the overview are accurate. We loved dining in the breakfast area where we could watch all the wildlife action in the backyard and pond. The salt-water pool is beautifully maintained and very clean and gets sun all day long.

Because the house has been enjoyed by so many, it is beginning to show a bit of wear - hence we can only give four stars. For example, minor plumbing and electrical issues that happen with age, as well as the torn front door screen, windows that won't stay open, etc. need to be addressed. Iain assured me that these small things will indeed be taken care of a.s.a.p.. Should you have any problems or concerns while staying at the house, Monique, the caretaker, is quick to respond. We plugged up the garbage disposal (banana peels!) and were saved from having a flood on the kitchen floor by Monique's husband, Andy. They are highly dependable, very pleasant, and there when you need them.

The property is almost next door to the Alden Pines Golf Club and about 1 mile from a marina and the Randell Research Center, a massive Calusa Indian shell mound site. Restaurants, Winn-Dixie, Dollar General, and Ace Hardware are about a 4-5 miles distance from the house. The Island library is small but excellent, and the Museum of the Islands next to the library is a great rainy day option.

We found Pine Islanders to be very friendly and welcoming. In the neighborhood everyone waves at everyone whether they are in golf carts, biking, or walking. We always felt very safe.

The island is relaxed and has a wonderful small town feel. March 2019 will mark our return to this lovely house - we are looking forward to it already!

Highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to your visit next year. The minor items you have highlighted have been attended to and we are currently starting to refurnish areas of the property. We started this last fall with all new outdoor furniture. I am pleased you highlighted how quick the response was from Monique when you plugged the garbage disposal as this is important to us that if anything goes wrong we are there to put it right. Just one minor point for future guests, the pool is fresh water and not salt. Thanks again for your review. Iain Massey

Relaxation on Pine Island

  • 5 of 5

The house was very large and clean with a great view of the water and golf course. The island is quiet with many, many palm trees. We had a chance to place Alden pines golf course a number of times and really enjoyed it. Bring many extra balls as it is tight with water on every hole. We visited a number of the local bars and restaurants and almost all of them had the low keyed island vibe. Our favorite was Miceli's restaurant on Matlacha which had great food and entertainment on the back patio area. we would recommend this place if you want to get away from the busy tourist areas.

Amazing Spot and Island

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I rented this place for a long weekend to take my grandmother. This place was perfect for all of us. Great location, great views and great pool. My husband and I loved going around the island to see different places and my grandma loved spending time at the home. We were all so comfortable in the space and we had such a great day around the pool. We got the best laughs and conversations.

Old Florida charm on quaint Pine Island

  • 4 of 5

Spacious 3 bedroom house on a canal/lake with a great pool! We loved the neighborhood and the quietness than Pine Island offered. Golf course nearby runs an afternoon 'deal' after 2p.m. for $20. Big kitchen and dining room tables allow plenty of room for games, dining. House could use a couple of maintenance issues looked at - dishwasher didn't clean dishes so we washed dished by hand and screen on front outside door would have been great to allow breezes to come in. Overall, a great place to stay, which we did for the months of February and March, 2017!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our property, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay for February and March. Thank you for your comments about the dishwasher and a screen on the door. When you reported the dishwasher to me I immediately got our property manager to call and see you and she took a look at the dishwasher and could not find a fault so offered to get the repair company in to take a look but you declined this and said it was fine. After you left I got the dishwasher serviced just in case there was an intermittent fault. All seems fine. Thank you for your feedback on this. The door does have an opening window with a pull down screen built into the door. Thanks again for your feedback, it is most welcome and I look forward to welcoming you in the future.

Very quiet neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

We love the location of this home as it close to our favorite beaches. We loved returning to the peace and quiet after a day out sightseeing. The pool is wonderful with a view of the lake, we enjoyed many beautiful sunsets.

The island is great with lots of shops and restaurants. You will not want to miss the ferry to Cayo Costa and Cabbage Key. Owners are very helpful and have included everything you would need.

Pine Island is a well kept secret and does not have the traffic jams and mass tourism of it's more famous neighbor Sanibel. The island is a mass producer of mango and palm trees so you can imagine it's beauty. If you are looking for a laid back vacation in the real Florida then Pine Island is for you. With only a 15 minute drive to Cape Coral and a further 15 minutes to Fort Myers you are never far away from the shops and restaurants, although Pine Island boasts some excellent restaurants and a variety of shops, including a supermarket of its own. Pine Island can best be described as tranquil and natural. The house is right on the beautiful Alden Pines tropical golf course, the golf club also has tennis courts available.
