About Debbie Laffranchini
I am a semi-retired professor of child development and special needs and semi-retired Infant Development Specialist. What that really means is that I still teach online for the college that I retired from and I still carry a small caseload of children birth to age three with disabilities. I do consulting to support schools in serving children with disabilities, particularly autism. I travel yearly to Uganda and Kenya to train teachers to work with children with disabilities, build preschools, build libraries, and support a Rural Health Team by sponsoring the now four doctors who run the health team from a small village clinic that I helped to build. I also traveled to Romania to train students, professionals, and parents to work with children with autism. All of the work I do abroad is volunteer. I am active in the community volunteering in many projects, primarily for the school, fire department, Grange, and Lions Club. My life of service has been a joy for me.
Debbie Laffranchini purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Debbie Laffranchini chose Junction City
I grew up in Trinity County and went to a two-room school at the beginning of Dutch Creek Road. When considering retirement, I knew I wanted to return to my roots and the many friends who remained here. I bought this particular piece of property because I had lost someone very important in my life and I myself was looking for a place to heal: I found it here at Bliss Acres. I wanted to give others the peace I found here and I knew with the cottage, I could do that! I use the cottage to donate at fundraisers at the college I retired from, to support a live theater project, local high school scholarship fundraisers, Rotary and Lions Club fundraisers, and any other group who asks me to donate a weekend or a week. I also offer one-week stays to families who are saying good-bye to a child or parent or who have already experienced a loss and need a place of healing. My work in early intervention has given me the skills to support families through loss and it is my hope that Bliss Acres is a place of new beginnings.
What makes this Cottage unique
I fell in love with the views from the several benches spread throughout the property. I envisioned a yoga platform that is now in process.
