About Erwing Rodriguez Ibarra
I am a retired psychiatrist having practiced psychiatry successfully in California for over 30 years. I was also married close to 30 years and am now single once more. We have a son who just turned 32, Matt, who is team manager for the surf company Rip Curl. I purchased this retirement property in 2015 and began building shortly thereafter. My first night here was April 8th 2017. Villa de Los Mangos is a large property and so when the home as you see it is rented I have built a small casita for me out back. The dual space I created has a small charming bedroom and adjoining well equipped office and gym. I also have an outdoor kitchen there where I can prepare meals. I have been looking at my life in 3 stages or acts if you will. The first was "becoming somebody", the second a career and family, and the 3rd act, well, is about me figuring out what it all means and how best to complete this life cycle. This last act of course is and will be the most difficult and challenging of all! Don't you think?
Erwing Rodriguez Ibarra purchased this House in 2015
Why Erwing Rodriguez Ibarra chose Saladita
I came here (Playa La Saladita) with my family, well, let's say about 18 years ago. We were a surfing family and stayed in the bungalows out in front of the surf break about a 1/4 mile down the beach from where Villa de Los Mango is located. For many consecutive years I would see the housing community from the lineup up the beach and surfed with a number of local residents having built homes there, including the famous surfer from the 60's Corky Carrol, but I never ventured up the beach to check it out. Then one day many years later while surfing out in front of the Sheraton Hotel in Kauai, Hawaii I had a "vision". I had not been surfing for several years in my adopted home town Santa Cruz. I took a surf lesson with my girlfriend (she did not know how to surf so I took a lesson with her) & the instructor told me, after I had complained this little shore break is pitiful, "well you can go out there and surf then". Half way out in beautiful, very warm (the water in Santa Cruz is very cold) pristine water paddling toward perfectly shaped peeling lefts I saw in my minds eye the exact same scene I had seen so many times so many years earlier - that little community nestled up the beach just down from a very similar warm water pristine surf break. I thought to myself "gee, this is something I like to do (surf) and I am pretty good at it" (the primitive nature of the surf lesson stood out in contrast to my skill level) and I spontaneously experienced a Eureka moment or epiphany "I could live there!" I was aware on a another level that psychiatry was changing so dramatically and so fast and that now I had a plan. The rest is history as they say. I had heard of a sailor in Santa Cruz that had a home in that exact Saladita community. I befriended him and he encouraged and guided me over the following year as I ended my psychiatry practice, sold my home and 90% of all my worldly possessions. As they say in the card game Texas Hold'em "I went all in"! And here I am!
What makes this House unique
Subsequent to my "vision" discussed above I travelled to Saladita in December of 2014 where my benefactor, Curtis, who had built his home right on the beach, met me at the airport with the legendary Timoteo. Both had built their homes here10 years earlier. I had gone down from California with just the intention of "seeing" whether I could live there and had another plane reservation later to make a bid on a property if things worked out. Well, they both laid out the red carpet for me and introduced me to all the local movers and shakers. I traveled around with two different real estate agents as Curtis and I scoured the properties available. After seeing everything that was available we both fell in love with the property that became Villa de Los Mangos. It was large, absolutely stunning, centrally located and just off the ocean (houses right on the ocean suffer terribly from the moist salt air). It was an ancient Mango grove with 11 of the original mature mangos remaining. My next door neighbor is a Coconut Palm Grove! There was no reason to wait. Shortly thereafter Corky Carroll, the famous 60's surfer, also wearing his real estate cap, "welcomed me to the community". Without question we made the correct choice. I could not be happier with the selection of location nor the exquisite architectural masterpiece that was the result of myself working closely with the master builder and his precocious son architect. Please visit us and come see for yourself the result of love and fortitude.

Incredible, beautiful house in paradise
This place is amazing. We had a fantastic week. The house features a patio with a bar, hammock under a gazebo, and a deep pool. The landscaping all around the property is immaculate. The covered rooftop is a great place to sit and watch the sunset over the ocean. Inside, there are two air conditioned bedrooms. There is a loft area with 3 small beds and room for additional air mattresses (which Tim will provide for you) if needed. There is no air conditioning outside of the two bedrooms, but there are electric fans provided and, if you leave the doors open, the sea breeze flows through the screens and keeps the house at a comfortable temperature.
If you are coming to surf, the main break of La Saladita is about a 5 minute walk down the beach. There are plenty of board rental shops along the beach. Everyone is very nice and laid back. You can leave your board at the shop when you are done with in then grab it again the next morning so that you don't have to carry it all the way back to the house. They also will let you switch out boards whenever you like if you want to change things up.
Tim (owner) is very accommodating and is great about responding promptly to any questions or requests you may have. Maybe the best part of this property, though, is Tim's property staff, Noe and Ari. They are seriously the nicest people that I have ever met. They will come every day and keep the house meticulously clean. They are also AMAZING cooks, and will prepare food for you (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) if you desire. I highly recommend that you do so. Everything that they cooked for us was delicious. They charged us 100 pesos per person for preparation, plus cost of the food, so in total it is about $10 USD per person for dinner depending on what they cook. You can't beat that.
The owner is strict about the night time noise policy, so if you plan on partying, that is something to keep in mind. Overall, we had an amazing vacation and I could not recommend this place more highly.
We had a great week. Just have to echo what others have said super positive. Tim was onsite during our stay and super available but not intrusive and a great host all around. I got to surf w/ him a couple of mornings once I started going out at first light :) The property is super relaxing, chill, quiet, and well done all around. We did not use the loft (our fam of 4 used the two ac rooms w/ kids going to bed before adults) - but for the right group would be great. The property is not "on the ocean" it is one level back and is ~10 min walk to the main paddle out spot and you can't really see the break from the property fyi -- which for us was a perfectly fine trade-off to have a great and comfortable property where we could chill/read/swim/relax (and work parents were on "workation") when not at friends places at the point or out in the water. We had a couple of dinners cooked/prepped with Ari and Noe they are awesome. So yeah like others have said a great, newer property with amazing host. It is more expensive than some other (IMO not as nice) spots, and the location is quiet but not on the break. Awesome spot well done Tim and thank you we are stoked to come back!
It is always so nice to host guests who appreciate what we have accomplished here at Villa de Los Mangos and how hard we work to make vacations for everyone a huge success. Thank you so much Andy and family!
Mr. Tim and his staff are simply outstanding. We had the best time-the house is amazing, perfect location and wonderful people, Many thanks..
Erik and his family were simply the best guests a home owner would want to have stay for a family vacation at their treasured residence! And they have already have booked a return trip!! We welcome them back with open arms!
Beautiful home and pool near beach!
This is a lovely place to stay. The owner, Tim, is very responsive to guests and very accommodating. His support staff, Ari and Noe, are also very helpful. Ari is an amazing cook--do not hesitate to hire her to cook your dinners! She and Noe shop for all the ingredients and make the food right there in the home, very unobtrusively. Her meals are creative and delicious, as well as very affordable. The home is comfortablr and spacious and the pool is very refreshing, especially after a day at the beach and in the salty ocean. Enjoy!
Lisa and her family, husband, parents and children were ideal guests. Our home/location and help were able to provide just the right ingredients to make their vacation unique, special and memorable. This pleases us very much!! What an absolute pleasure to be able to provide location and service to such an appreciative family. We sincerely hope that they will again take advantage of our home and hospitality in the future.
The property is beautiful. Perfect location. An excellent vacation
A brand new, immaculate home that is a very short walk down the beach to paddle out at Playa Saladita. It was my first time surfing Saladita. We had overhead waves and offshore winds every morning. The wave is fun and ridiculously long. It just goes forever. I have never been on a wave even a fourth as long as Saladita. We paddled out every afternoon as well. I never saw it blown out this week. The only limit was arm fatigue. Do some padding before you go. Long waves mean a long paddle out. There is a chennel, so you get to the lineup with your hair dry.
The property is beautiful, surrounded by mature mango trees and palms. We loved the pool. Tim, the owner really made our trip so special. He arranged for a great cook to prepare our meals. We had tons of fresh fruit, traditional Mexican cooking seved on the patio to take in the beautiful tropical sunsets over the ocean. Our first night we ate at Lourdes Restaurant and it really couldn’t come close to the quality that we had made for us at the house.
The property is very quiet and secure.
Inside the home is beautiful as well. Beautiful artwork and woodwork everywhere. The internet was faster than our home. Had to turn down the air conditioner in the bedroom because it worked so well.
We have rented many beach houses for surf trips in Mexico, Nicaraugua and Costa Rica and never had a home so dialed in.
Don’t miss Pazole on Thursday night in Buena Vista. Also a boat or road trip up to surf the Ranch were highlights for us.
Thank you Tim. I am so jealous of your lifestyle in paradise
Eric and Sandy were ideal guests. They were respectful, kind, considerate and fun with whom to share time. They were appreciative of all the hard work we put into making their vacation stay here so pleasurable and special.
Sandy and Eric were also ideal in the sense that they took advantage of much that Villa de Los Mangos and the surrounding environment and communities have to offer and participated with such joy and enthusiasm. It is of course supremely rewarding when one's personal home is so treasured and relished.
Thank you so much Eric and Sandy for being who you are and sharing so generously with all of us. So please come back and visit us and share with us once again our "lifestyle in paradise".
Clean house in a great location with modern amenities. Would definitely recommend staying here
The House was very clean and comfortable and the staff was great. Tim the owner was very helpful and accommodating.
Thank you Chris for your lovely review. I am happy that you and Joe enjoyed the property. We are very much looking forward to seeing you again!
The main attraction to our location here at Playa la Saladita is a world class point left surf break that attracts people from all over the world. The coastline in itself is elegant, tropical and adventurous. Playa la Saladita is a stunningly secluded beach 25 miles north of the historic fishing village of Zihuatanejo and the world renowned Ixtapa resort. Located just a few miles behind the beach and surf are the visually majestic multiple faceted mountain ridges of the Sierra Madre del Sur dotting the Costa Grande of the Mexican state of Guerrero.
Located close by car or boat is another world class surf break called the Ranch (El Rancho) and as well within a few miles by car a natural hot springs. Approximately 6 miles as the crow flies or about 20 to 25 minutes driving is a lovely beach front village called Troncones that advertises beautiful white sand beaches, guest inns, high quality cuisine and restaurants and a yoga resort called Present Moment.
Turning off Highway 200 on your way here to Villa de Los Mangos you pass through a quaint 3rd world, if you will, village called Los Llanos (about 2 and 1/2 miles from our home). There are several local markets and restaurants in town and a conveniently located ATM. To my sister and I the center of the village particularly reminds us of a Hollywood set you know the kind of set where you might see the Magnificent Seven corralling through town.
A 25 mile 40 minute drive down the newly constructed highway 200 will take you to Zihuatanejo known until recently as a sleepy fishing village until the Mexican government developed the nearby resort of Ixtapa. The area is the 3rd most visited area in Mexico after Cancun and Puerto Vallarta and the most popular for sports fishing. Cruises often stop at Zihuatanejo the city having become a major cruise stop and attraction for it's beaches. The city is also famous for it's catamaran tours of both Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa bays where snorkeling, spinnaker flying and sunset cruises are offered.
Just south of the Zihuatanejo Airport is a large archeological site at La Soledad De Maciel and the small town of La Chole. Excavations have uncovered well preserved pyramids and stadiums occupied by 3 different cultures from 3000 BCE to the early 600's CE. There are daily tours of this amazing historical site well worth a visit.
Last but not least there are about 8 very local beach milieu restaurants all located within about 10 minute walking distances along the beach from our home. Additionally my crew hosts meals here at the house for the nominal fee of 100 pesos per person plus the cost of food. We can supply menus or you can order on the spot.
I would be remiss not to mention a bucolic Mexican restaurant Minervas located in a small quaint village, Buena Vista, about 11 miles south and about a 23 minute drive. Their specialty on Thursday nights is Pozole a traditional stew from Mexico which once had tremendous ritual significance. It is made from hominy with meat (typically pork) and can be seasoned with chili peppers, onion, garlic, radishes, avocado, salsa and or limes. I will let you look up the tradition of this meal prior to 1500 when the Spanish arrived. This trip is highly recommended.
