Here you will find a church next to the local bar where you can pick up your fresh bread daily and perhaps have a coffee with the locals and sample the local brew 'pineau'. The village has a weekly evening fete throughout July and August where you can try fresh local produce such as cheese, wine and other specialities of the region. Fresh meat and poultry can be purchased and cooked on the BBQs available in the village square. Of course live music and dancing goes on well into the night and this fete proves ever popular with locals and tourists alike. There is a fishing lake and tennis court approx 1.5 km walk from the gite. There are fetes, festivals and markets to be found throughout the surrounding area in the nearby towns and villages which are always alive with colour and character.

The nearby town of Lubersac is within 5 km and has an open air swimming pool, restaurants, bars and cafes as well as other amenities including supermarkets, banks, post office, doctors, dentist and of course hairdressers!

Whilst staying in this area there are many wonderful places of interest to visit. You will not be disappointed by a day at the races in nearby Pompadour. Said to be the equestrian heart of France, you can enjoy a day on the racetrack or visit the equestrian centre to find out more about the horses and their riders and trainers. Pompadour Chateau is open to the public.

If your tastes are of an historical nature, the neighbouring towns of Segur le Chateau is steeped in medieval architecture and history. Nestling on the banks of The Auvergne, you can soak up the sun and atmosphere, and perhaps have a picnic on the banks of the river.

The nearby town of Uzerche also boasts some impressive architecture and is well worth a visit. You can also enjoy a day on the river, kayaking or canoeing as there are many places to participate in this activity to be found along its banks.

Situated in South West France, the region is a place of outstanding beauty. Surrounded by 3 'Parc Naturelles' it encompasses lush forests, tranquil lakes and undulating landscape. The area is great for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers as the natural habitat supports a wide range of animals and birds including red and black kites, barn owl, golden orioles and hoopoes.

Enjoying lovely warm, sunny summers. Within 30 minutes drive you can access the valley of the Dordogne well known for its dramatic landscape and water sport activities. In winter there are excellent skiing opportunities to be found at the lesser known resorts of Le Mont Dore and Super Besse in The Auvergne region which is easily accessible by car an hour and a half drive away.

The region is well known for its distinctive Limousine cattle which produces the finest Limousine beef. An apple and pear growing region, we are surrounded by orchards and you can always find an opportunity to sample the local cider. Another speciality of the region is tarte aux noix, a sweet nutty tart which will delight those of you with a sweet tooth. A huge variety of honey is always available for you to sample from the local producers at the local markets alongside its array of fresh local goodies.

Altogether, this region offers many interesting sights and activities to make it an ideal place for couples, friends, lone travellers and families to explore, relax, rewind and mostly enjoy.

The owners Mandy and Ian are happy to share their local knowledge with you should you require any assistance.

Friendly welcome, lovely gite in countryside just minutes from the motorway

  • 5 of 5

Ian and Mandy gave us a warm welcome and ensured we enjoyed our stay. The bread, wine, home made jam and biscuits, etc. were a nice surprise and much enjoyed. The gite is well-equipped, with a comfortable bed and a good shower. There is a lovely garden with a table and chairs, sunloungers to relax in and a BBQ. The sun shines on the garden all day so you can eat all your meals there if you wish.

The small village of St-Pardoux-Corbier is a 10-minute walk along a country road. It has one shop where you can get a drink, coffee or bread. During the summer months, there is a Marché Festif on a Wednesday night - you buy your food at the market, cook it on the bbqs which are provided and then eat alongside everyone - a really good night and very popular.

The supermarkets are only a few minutes drive away. Other towns and villages are a short drive away and well worth a visit. We particularly liked Uzerche, Tulle - Wednesday morning market good - and Segur-le-Chateau. Mandy and Ian will give you advice on where to visit depending on what your interests are.

We very much enjoyed our stay here and hope to return. We would highly recommend the gite to those wishing to stay for a week or more. There is also a chambre d'hote offered for those staying shorter periods. As the property is located only a few minutes from the main road, it is also ideal for breaking up a journey north or south.

Thank you Ian and Mandy for a very enjoyable stay. We hope to see you - and Barbara and the gang - again soon.

Owner's Response: Bonjour Sandra and Robert We hope that you had a good journey home. Thank you so much for such a lovely and very informative review. We are always pleased to hear that our guests enjoyed their stay in our gite and garden. It is also good to hear that you had a great time exploring the many interesting villages and surrounding countryside that our region has to offer. The summer fetes are always fun and full of locals and holiday makers side by side. We are glad that you were able to join us for our own village fete. It really was a pleasure to meet you both and yes it would be great to see you here once again. As I said the door is always open! Thanks once again. A bientôt ! Mandy and Ian

un super petit cocon

  • 4 of 5
