The property is in a stunning setting, spread over three floors with a large private terrace on the top floor perfect for sunbathing, and with fantastic views towards the old town of Aigues Mortes. The ground floor terrace area directly overlooks its own private mooring. Aigues-Mortes is a striking, walled Medieval town sitting on the flat marshes of the Petite Camargue, and is considered the purest example of 13th-century military architecture. It looks today pretty much like it did in the Middle Ages. The town of neatly rectilinear streets is surrounded by fortified ramparts. It contains many shops and cafes and restaurants catering for all tastes. Spend time strolling or just sitting whiling the time away. For the more energetic you can walk round the ramparts or hire a bike or boat or go horse riding nearby. A 15 minute drive takes you to the modern and vibrant city of Montpellier with its new tram system making it easy to see this fascinating city with its old town of narrow streets. 30 minutes and you are in the Roman town of Nimes with its Roman Arena and the Maison Carree - a fascinating place to visit.

Languedoc-Roussillon is a region of stunning diversity, with areas of unspoilt natural beauty, vibrant towns and cities, and superb historic monuments. Add to this the incomparable Mediterranean light and the beautiful blue of the sea, and you are in a region of pure delight. The property is in the Gard department which is part of the Cévennes National Park. There are important Roman architectural remains in Nîmes, as well as the famous Roman aqueduct, the Pont du Gard. Also worth visiting are Arles that has a Roman Amphitheatre and is the gateway to the Camargue, and Uzes is famous in the area for its Saturday market as not only does it sell local produce but it also sells cloths of the region as well as plenty of tourist delights.

The nearest beach to the property is a 5 minute drive/15 minute cycle away at Le Grau-du-Roi, and parking can be found near the station or in the town. Grau-du-Roi is a lively fishing port, the vessels can be seen returning at about 16.00 each day.

Just a few minutes to the south east of Grau-du-Roi is a large unspoilt sandy beach called l'Espiguette with its own car park. To the west of Grau-du-Roi are more beaches around le Boucanet that leads on to the town of la Grande Motte with its distinctive architecture and harbour bars. Well worth a visit. From la Grande Motte to Carnon is one long continuous beach backed by sand dunes called Le Grande Travers, the road is one way only, you can only travel from Carnon to le Grande Motte the rest of the road is used as a cycle track and parking.

There are two 18 hole golf courses within 15 minutes of the property, and tennis courts are available 10 minutes walk away. Boat hire is available at the Port du Roy to enjoy the marina, the local canals, and the Med just a 4 km canal trip away.

Access to AIgues Mortes is easy and there are many options. Montpellier airport (Easyjet/Ryanair/Air France) is 15 minutes away, Nimes airport (Ryanair) 30 minutes, Beziers (Ryanair) 60 mins and Marseille (BA, Easyjet, Ryanair, AF, others) 75 mins. Eurostar/SNCF options are frequent to Nimes station, and there is even a connection at Nimes for Aigues Mortes station - a 10 minute walk from the property.

About Peter

We are a couple in our mid fifties, originally from NW England, now living in Buckinghamshire. Recently got the boating bug, so need to be near the water!

Peter purchased this house in 2014

Why Peter chose Aigues-Mortes

We holidayed here in 2013 and fell in love with the place . We had never been anywhere that ticked so many boxes for us.Loads of activities, bars and restaurants, yet so beautiful and peaceful.

What makes this house unique

High quality marina property walking distance to a fantastic and vibrant old town, and just 4 km to the sea along the canal towpath. Idyllic.

Beautiful villa in a lovely area, peaceful and well equipped

  • 5 of 5

We spent 11 lovely nights in September in Peter and Jane’s villa. From our first communication with Peter I can’t find any fault. Peter replied promptly to all of my emails, regardless of how minor the query, payment was easy and the damage deposit was returned promptly, which for me was excellent as I have had difficulties in the past. The villa was excellent with everything and more you could possibly want for a holiday. Looking out on to the marina, sitting on the terrace was a very peaceful way to start the day and to my delight I saw a wonderful kingfisher! The terrace and balconies were lovely places to relax with sun most of the day. The communal swimming pool was a bit cold but once in was a lovely way to cool off and was empty each time I used it. The directions to the villa were easy to follow and once there we were given good information on the villa, ideas where to eat in the town and an excellent short cut to the town, which took a 15 -20 minutes walk. Aigues-Morte was a lovely walled town with plenty of restaurants and a very interesting rampart walk, which to our surprise was free to enjoy. The local Lidl supermarket was a 5 minute walk away and had everything you might need for your holiday. The villa has plenty of information of places to visit in the surrounding area and I would definitely recommend the salt mine visit and a visit to the Parc Ornithologique de Pont de Gau to see the flamingoes up close. I would definitely recommend staying at this villa if holidaying in this area.

This is lovely accommodation, spacious and clean, and very comfortable. We had a most enjoyable week here. The view from the balconies is lovely, and we much enjoyed listening to the comical ducks! Aigues-Mortes is a very picturesque and interesting place and a walk round the ramparts is a must.

We would highly recommend it.

Great house in a great lovation

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous 2 weeks in Peter and Jane's house. It was ideally located for boating, cycling and only a short drive to the beaches. Everything we needed was in the house and it felt very homely rather than just a holiday let. We enjoyed breakfast and barbecues on the terrace, and the local wine on the roof terrace in the evenings. It was so peaceful but loved watching the boats, ducks and fish go by. The pool was only a 2 minute walk from the house and never too busy. There were only ever 2/3 other families there.

The short walk (10 mins) or cycle into Aigues Mortes along the canal was very pleasant.

There are lots of places to visit and sites to see in the area and suited all ages.

We look forward to returning again.

Fabulous pied-a-terre!

  • 5 of 5

We (husband, son, the dog and myself) have just returned from a fabulous weeks stay at this property. The communication with Peter and his wife, from the first instance, was very reassuring and we always had a quick response. We were greeted warmly, by the lady who had the key and showed us around, including the bin area and pool - also when they keys were needed. The 3 bed-roomed town house was ideally located in the marina and had 3 very picturesque patio/terrace areas. It was very well equipt - with quality kitchen appliances and soft towels, classic furnishings and tasteful decor. The place was spotless and has obviously been well maintained.

There were several other English families in the adjoining houses and we found every one to be very friendly. We loved the pool area, which again was well looked after and clean - you are expected to leave your shoes outside a cordoned area before showering and walking through a hygiene foot bath. There was plenty of space for lying out on towels around the pool even during the weekend.

We had taken many self catering items and bought others: like toilet rolls, foil and clothes/dishwasher detergent, but I found these were in the cupboards anyway.

Getting around was easy too - the Medieval town of Aigues-Mortes is very authentic (just as you would imagine from a film set) and had the usual boutiques, cafes and restaurants and also delicious ice-cream parlours. We ate out a couple of times and cooked at home (see reviews on TA) - the electric BBQ was very handy! We followed the sketch map for a quicker route into the town, which did cut the walking time down! Intermarche and Super U grocery stores were within a short distance (by car) and Lidl was close by (walking).

So, thank you for letting us stay at your delightful holiday home - it was everything we had hoped for... and more. I would highly recommend staying here.

Excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Excellent accommodation for six adults. This is a well equipped property in an excellent location. Being south facing, the terrace is ideal for outdoor eating and relaxing. It is an easy walk to the shops (Lidl and in Aigues Mortes itself). It is well located for touring and visiting places like Arles; Pont du Gard; Montpelier etc.

Aigues Mortes also has a wealth of restaurants and cafes, we were spoilt for choice.

Terrific Value for Money
