About the property

Mountain's, Woodland And Wildlife Viewed Right From Your Armchair!

Beautiful 2 bedroom self catering cottage set in woodland near Killin, Perthshire.

Blinkbonnie Cottage is the middle one of seven modern cottages positioned in the beautiful Loch Lomond & Trossach’s National Park. The cottage has lovely open views, but walk a few yards away from the house and you have some of the best walks in Scotland.

There is a small lochan at the rear of the cottage where trout can be seen jumping most days. The National Cycle Route 7 runs a few hundred yards from the cottage where you can cycle between Glasgow and Inverness. The whole area is a haven for wildlife. Deer, Hare, Pine Martin, Red Squirrel can all be seen around the cottage and the bird life is equally as interesting. You may see Golden Eagle, Osprey, Red Kite, Hen Harrier and even the occasional Sea Eagle! For those of you who play golf we have two courses within 20 minutes drive and many more in the area.

The nearest village is Killin (2 miles away) which has all you should require for your holiday. There is a well stocked Coop, Hardware Store and plenty of eating houses. It is also famous for the Dochart Falls which you have to drive over to enter the village.

Killin is also on the western end of Loch Tay, one of Scotland’s larger Lochs.

Lochearnhead is 4 miles to the south where you can enjoy all sorts of water sports and fishing. Speedboat rides and water skiing can be arranged by the owner if required?

The cottage is in a perfect central position for days out!

Edinburgh, Glasgow and Fort William around 90 minutes away.

Oban, Glencoe, Stirling, Perth and Gleneagles around 60 minutes away.

Journey times are normally reduced as the roads are very quiet compared to most holiday areas.

Blinkbonnie Cottage is a very cosy holiday home with a log burning stove in the lounge which overlooks the small lochan and the forest in the distance. There are also electric panel heaters in all the other rooms should additional heat be required. The kitchen is modern and well equipped with washing machine, electric cooker, microwave and toaster.

If you fancy a few days really chilling out, some energetic hill walking or just using Blinkbonnie as a base to tour from, this is the place for you!

About Dave Lloyd

Sandie and I spent our working life in the Staffordshire area running a furniture wholesale business, but have always taken our holidays in this area for the last twenty years. The main attraction at first was the water skiing and wildlife, but then the village became our second home so eight years ago we managed to purchase our current home which we then used just for holidays. In February 2013 we decided to retire and move north permanently, selling up our home in the Midlands and having a new start in life!

Dave Lloyd purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Dave Lloyd chose Stirling

Blinkbonnie was purchased in July 2013 due to its location. Wester Lix is a wooded area of the National Park with many walks and cycle tracks from your front door and the wildlife can be seen from your armchair.

What makes this cottage unique

Mountain views to the north and forests and a lochan to the rear looking south. The end of the garden has a small lochan where trout can be seen jumping daily.

In a beautiful area, away from it all, except nature.

  • 5 of 5

The property is well situated at the north of the Loch Lomond National Park to drive in any direction and reach beautiful and interesting places.

We found Blinkbonnie Cottage to be very well equipped and exceptionally comfortable. Our hosts gave us lots of tips and ideas of local eateries and places to visit, they couldn't be more helpful and were only a phone call away if needed. At the bottom of the garden we watched the daily goings-on with the families of ducks and other birds and also watched in delight as deer passed by.

We enjoyed visiting the local village of Killin which has a great range of pubs, restaurants, shops and natural attractions. The roads are excellent with good signage and even if you get lost, there's lots to see and explore.

We loved our holiday to Scotland and it was in no small part to our accomodation which we would highly recommend and hope to return to in the not too distant future.

A comfortable holiday home with stunning scenery and wildlife

  • 4 of 5

You could stay at Blinkbonnie and remain there without going anywhere else. There are great views to the front and back of the property where woodland birds, rabbits, herons, ducks and, if you're lucky as we were, deer can be seen on a daily basis. It is really peaceful and great to view the night sky with no light pollution whatsoever.

The cottage is well furnished and, of special note, has really comfortable beds. Dave, the owner, gave us a warm welcome and explained what we needed to know. Although there was a problem with the colour of the water following a period of heavy rain, the owners had provided bottled water and it was perfectly safe anyway after boiling. We felt that this was just part of the experience of living for a week in a completely different environment. The property was very clean and, although the kitchen and bathroom are relatively small, you soon get used to having less space in these areas. The lounge and bedrooms are all of a good size. In any case, the location of the cottage more than makes up for any shortcomings in terms of room size.

We chose this cottage for its location. We know The Trossachs quite well from past holidays and we wanted to revisit some favourite places, but also wanted to venture a little further. Locally, we visited the Ben Lawers Nature Reserve twice. On the second occasion we went up to the impressive dam and on through Glen Lyon. We made further excursions to Loch Venachar, the Glen Finglas Reservoir, the magnificent Glen Coe and a superb walk from Killin along the old railway line and along the shore of Loch Tay. There is no shortage of relatively easy walks within a short drive from the cottage.

We would recommend this cottage to anyone seeking peace and quiet. It is a nature lover's paradise and we will miss it!

One of the best cottages and a superb holiday

  • 5 of 5

The four of us, two from Cambridge UK and two from Cambridge, Canada had a wonderful holiday in Western Highlands. The accommodation is one of the best places we have had the good fortune to stay. We also enjoyed the log fire in the evenings. The birds that frequent the area a real birdwatchers paradise. Lovely walks nearby and in four days we only scratched the surface. The area at Glencoe and the Trossachs is breathtaking. As a crowning glory, the owners have thought of all the little comforts one could wish for in the cottage. God willing, we will be back for a longer stay another year. Thanks to David and Sandie and also the couple at no.1 Westerlix (Alec and Jess) who made us really feel welcome to the area.

Owner's Response: Thank you Anup and Friends for your kind review! We were so pleased you all enjoyed your stay at Blinkbonnie and found the area so interesting. I will pass on your regards to Alec and Jess, they are great people. The day you left my wife was doing the housekeeping at the cottage and spotted a very rare bird to Scotland, it was a Hoopoe! Did you have the good fortune to see it? You and your friends were excellent guests and will always be welcome back at Blinkbonnie Cottage in the future. Best regards to all and hope we meet again!

Comfy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Blinkbonnie during a week of mixed weather. The cottage was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. We really enjoyed watching the variety of birds (some that we don't see at home) visiting the bird feeders and had some surprising visitors. The Great spotted woodpecker came twice and that was beautiful. The deer visited too. I would have no hesitation in revisiting Blinkbonnie. Thanks for everything Dave and Sandie

Very nice, well equipped rural cottage

  • 5 of 5

Blinkbonnie Cottage is a well equipped, nice little cottage in beautiful parkland of the Trosachs. It is a short drive to the beautiful village of Killin and Dochart Falls. With only a handful of other cottages nearby it is a nice retreat from busy city life. Very quiet and peaceful. The owners are helpful and pleasant to deal with. I am a writer and used this cottage as a writing retreat. It worked out wonderfully for me.
