Carrie L. Bates
About Carrie L. Bates
Owners Carrie and Kevin Bates welcome you to Green Apple Farm. Kevin is a retired businessman and Carrie is an adjunct professor at nearby SUNY Potsdam. Both of us grew up on farms and love to spend time nurturing animals and crops.
Carrie L. Bates purchased this Guest House in 2010
Why Carrie L. Bates chose Canton
Originally, the main house and the guesthouse formed one property. In the 1950s, the property was split. We bought the main house in 1999 and enjoyed a close relationship with the owner of what is now the guesthouse. When he died at the age of 96, we bought the house from his son, thus reuniting the property. Carrie's mother lived in the house until June 2018, when she moved to VT to be closer to her other children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We did not want long term tenants, but we did not want the house to sit empty either. A vacation rental seemed like the perfect idea!
What makes this Guest House unique
Close to 4 universities (ideal for graduations, move-in weekends, family weekends, and special events). Easy drive to Lake Placid, the Thousand Island region, and Ottawa, Ontario. Quiet, rural setting with frequent visits from local deer, turkeys, and coyotes.
