Simple, but charming
We spent two lovely weeks in St Cyprien at La Tourondel, and were very comfortable. The cottage is furnished in a rustic country style, with many interesting objects the owner has collected. The kitchen was well-equipped with quality appliances and it was easy to fix full meals, which we did many days. Having the cottage garden, from which we gathered wonderful, sweet tomatoes and figs, parsley and basil, was really a treat! Although we did not take advantage of it, the pool area is absolutely gorgeous, and we did enjoy sitting on the deck on a sunny afternoon. The location is on a small road leading out of town, but there is not a lot of traffic except in the morning, and noise was not an issue, and the parking directly facing was very convenient.
The village of St Cyprien is very small, but still has everything one needs for a pleasant stay, including two boulangeries, several good restaurants and a Carrefour and Carrefour Express market where you can get whatever you need, as well as a very nice pharmacy. The Saturday morning marche' was quite extensive, and the products offered of very high quality.
We used St Cyprien as a base to explore most of the Dordogne, and it worked out perfectly! Nothing was more than 1 hr drive on the backroads, most everything was within 30 mins, and we took different routes each day to see as much as we could. The owner was there to greet us on arrival, and was available if we needed anything. He was very nice, and even had a bottle of wine for us on arrival. He also dropped off clean linens each week, which was a nice touch. There is a washer (and dishwasher too) for doing our own laundry as well, which we did several times. Probably our favorite thing about La Tourondel was the views over the village and the surrounding countryside, from every window! It was just breathtaking, and a treat for the eyes first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
