About the property

La Gioconda, 18th century house, 120m2, 3 bedrooms and south-facing garden

The Gioconda is probably the most famous painting in the world and Leonardo da Vinci is perhaps the most famous painter in the world. What is hiding behind the mysterious smile of this lady?

Who is Monna Lisa really? His iconic look follows us once we cross him and forget it is almost impossible.

Amboise, charming city, was the last home of Leonardo who spent his last years at Clos Lucé, a charming little castle that King Francis I had made available to his Italian friend. It is between the royal castle and Clos Lucé that is the street Victor Hugo and it is there that the Gioconda is waiting for you. Not the painting, of course, but the house at the little blue door. Put the keys in the lock and open this little door, it will take you to a peaceful and quiet place away from the noise of the city while being only ten minutes walk from the center. Come to discover its old wooden beams which decorate the ceiling as well as its walls, they are there since three century. The house, of 120m2, dates from the XVIII century and its spiral staircase remained almost entirely original. Its three rooms are exposed south side, far from the street for silent nights which will be followed by an alarm clock with the song of the birds. As I said the house is located in the historic center but like the Gioconda it's a secret. Go down some steps, located in the veranda next to the kitchen, this is a little piece of heaven just for you. Yes, the house opens onto a garden still facing south, rich in pink and tulips where a magnificent fig tree is ready to shade you to allow you to eat quietly on the terrace, extension of the garden. This is where you could light the barbecue in the small hut and spend a good time with your family and friends.

Now it's up to you to play by reserving a place in a place you will not forget easily.

"Amor, ogni cosa vince" Leonardo da Vinci

Gioconda is probably the most famous person in the world and Leonardo da Vinci is the most famous person in the world. Cosa if nasconde dietro it suo misterioso sorriso?

Chi è davvero Monna Lisa? It is a very simple task, and it is a very difficult and difficult task.

Amboise, città affascinante, fu the ultima dimora di Leonardo che trascorse who i suoi ultimi anni, dimorando al Clos Lucé, a piccolo castello che re Francesco I aveva messo a disposizione del suo amico italiano. The castello reale e Clos Lucé che trova via Victor Hugo ed the Gioconda vi aspetta. No, it's dipinto, ovviamente, my house dalla piccola porta blu. Put the chiavi nella serratura e after questa piccola porta, vi porterà in a luogo tranquillo e silenzioso lontano dal rumore della città pur essendo a soli dieci minuti a piedi dal centro. The city has a great history, where it can be soffitto e sue mura, sono lì da tre secoli. The casa risale al 18 ° secolo e sua scala a chiocciola è rimasta quasi del tutto original. Sue stanze sono esposte a sud, lontano dalla strada per notti silenziose che saranno seguite da una sveglia con il canto degli uccelli. Come dicevo the casa if trova nel centro storico my come the Gioconda nasconde a mistero. Scendete alcuni gradini nella veranda accanto alla cucina, a piccolo angolo di paradiso li solo per voi. If Gioconda, after a south-facing giardino, ricco di rosa e tulipani, has a magnifico albero di preci è pronto, it has become a permanent feature of the tranquil life of the city. Whoever is able to accendere it barbecue nella piccola capanna e trascorrere a buon momento con famiglia e gli amici.

Ora tocca has served the prossima mossa taking a luogo che non dimenticherete facilmente.

Comfortable, convenient location to most of the sights of Amboise

  • 4 of 5

A very good location in Amboise. The house was well-equipped and comfortable. The owners were very responsive to our needs when the shower controller failed (replaced in less than 3 hours) and it was discovered upon arrival that the house had been setup for 2 guests instead of 4. The backyard is very nice and a good place for snacks and a bottle of wine on a nice day. Several good restaurants are within walking distance as is lots of shopping. Free parking can be found in a large parking lot about a 5-minute walk away. If you are driving, Rue Victor Hugo at first appears to be a pedestrian street but is actually a one-way through street that runs to Da Vinci's house...just go slowly.

Both bedrooms (with baths) are on the upper floors that are reached with a fairly tight and steep spiral staircase. Not recommended for anyone with mobility issues.

We would stay again.

Friendly and helpful host, great location, great kitchen, lovely yard.

  • 5 of 5

Everything was as advertised. There is a free parking lot 200m away. At the end of September it was not extremely busy. Look for Parking Des Tanneurs on google maps.

There is only one problem. Flexible showers have no overhead hooks. It makes it very inconvenient to take a shower. However having plans to visit Amboise again we would book this place again.

Mostly liked our stay

  • 4 of 5

There was a review that complained about the fireplace. It evidently was cleaned but it smells of smoke most noticeable In the downstairs.

The stair are really hard to navigate. a spiral with tiny wooden steps. There is a rope for a railing. Kitchen is very nice with all equipment for cooking. The attic bathroom shower has no pressure. Beds and linens are nice.

Owner's Response: Hello and thank you for your note. The fireplace as you said was cleaned and on top of that we will put an iron plate to avoid odors. We also resolved to pressure the shower upstairs, there was a problem in the tap. You could have told us when you were there, even so, we could have saved time for the repair. The staircase in massive chain is a very nice asset of the house and it should not be forgotten that it dates from the XVIII century and the "rope" as you apple is a staircase that we chose this material for respecting its authenticity. We wish you a good continuation Viviana and Pascal Dubois

Charming and wonderful location

  • 4 of 5

We so enjoyed our stay in Amboise. The apartment was charming and the modern kitchen was well equipped. We enjoyed eating in the dining area and having a glass of wine in the sunroom. We had hoped to use the outdoor table but we had inclement weather and stayed inside. The location was ideal for exploring this lovely city. We did find the stairs a bit challenging. Pascal and Viviana were very helpful and accommodating.

Owner's Response: Melody thank you for your comment about your stay in Amboise. For us it was a real pleasure to welcome you and we hope to meet you one day in this beautiful Loire Valley. The spiral staircases are, it is true, a tight but they come just from the XVIII century. We wish you a good continuation Forse ci rivedremo in Italy! :-) Best regards Viviana et Pascal Dubois

Lucky Us

  • 5 of 5

When we chose Amboise and this house for a summer holiday we didn't anticipate how deeply we would connect. Pascal and his family made us feel part of theirs. At all times they were concerned that we had everything we needed. Amboise was a perfect place to relax and enjoy small town France. We wanted a place to live without a car so most days the big decision was where to walk and what to eat.

The house is a bit like living a few centuries ago. It is completely updated but the beams and narrow wooden stairs harken to the past. The steps are tricky with their old irregular construction. We soon became comfortable and knew where to put our feet or grab the robe handrail. We loved opening the windows in the morning and hearing church bells and peacocks. The garden is private and fabulous. The kitchen is very well equipped. We thought we could cater on the big gas stove.

Rue Victor Hugo on which the house is located is a main tourist street. The Little Train passes multiple times a day as do crowds walking between Clos Luce and the chateau. Motorcycles are fast and noisy racing by. But you are just blocks from many restaurants and the patisserie near the clock (where we went nearly every day!). The Friday market and big, big one on Sunday was a source of countless wonderful food.

It was hard to leave. We are grateful we were there.

Old World Charm, Great Location

  • 4 of 5

Our stay in Amboise was a wonderful way to experience the charm of this city and the location from which to see all of the historic chateaus that the Loire Valley has to offer with a very short commute to each. We visited Chambord, Chenonceau, Chaumont, Amboise, Villandry and Clos Luce with ease. As this apartment is on the main street of the town, we were able to walk everyday for either morning croissants or evening meals in one of the many restaurants and bistro's on the street just two blocks from the apartment. This two bedroom, two bath apartment set in three stories with an old world circular staircase, was modern, with a great kitchen and modern bathrooms. The staircase requires individuals who can navigate them (we're old and did just fine). The charm of this apartment can be seen in the old beams, doors, and creaky floors (which we love). The only recommendation to the owners Pascal and Viviana DuBois, with whom we had very positive ongoing email and texting communication, would be to have the large fireplace in the living room cleaned as there is an ever present smell of burned firewood in the main living part of the apartment. This is a great place for 4-6 people. We would definitely stay here again!
