About Persehais Jean-Louis

Married, 3 children, in my sixties, retired from Civil Aviation Control, living there since 1970. I built this home myself on a family plot in 1989. D.I.Y man, amateur musician and photographer, traveller, reading lover, sociable and helpful, bon viveur and non-smoker. We like our region that we know well, and we can help you to discover it in the best conditions. Hope to see you soon...

Persehais Jean-Louis purchased this house in 1989

Why Persehais Jean-Louis chose Bergerac

This house is not a soulless holidays rental, but our home that we let for rent between June and September and in which we live the rest of the time. We are in the heart of a region full of history and prehistory and plenty of things to see, prehistoric caves or with concretions, feudal castles, dream gardens, walking in nice villages, "gabares" on Dordogne or Vézère rivers, in addition to many other more traditional hobbies (golf, riding, tennis, kayaking...). It is also a world famous region of gastronomy and wines. People are friendly and the air is pure, far from the industrial, urban and agricultural pollution. But you can also choose idleness and relaxation, outside dining two steps away from the pool, swim in its warm water (around 30 °) in the gentle warmth of the shelter, at any time and any weather ...

In short, cultural enrichment, breath of fresh air, relaxation and rest garanteed.

What makes this house unique

Space is a luxury, and here it is everywhere present. The vast wooded and mowed ground (25000m ²), allows nice walking around or let the children gambol without fears. The absence of direct vis-à-vis gives you a total tranquility and privacy. The large swimming pool and its large tiled beaches are of real comfort and can be appreciated at any time (illuminated at night), in the open air with the shelter open (it is motorized, no effort to make), or with the shelter on to enjoy a soft warmth, without wind, without insects, even in rainy wheather, and also protected from UV rays... This shelter can be locked for a total security in case of young children not knowing how to swim. The water is heated by heat pump every day and its temperature is guaranteed above 28 ° (and more often above 30 °) from the beginning of June to the end of September. You can lounge for hours without becoming cold blue. And of course it is possible to bathe in complete privacy, out of view... The house is very clear, tiled, very well equipped and comfortable, largely open to the outside. All the windows overlook a preserved and flowered nature. It will be delivered in perfect condition of maintenance and cleanliness, furnished with taste, decorated without ostentation, at least we think. Finally, in this rural countryside with dispersed habitat, calm and tranquility will be at the rendezvous.

Relaxing stay in wonderful villa with lovely heated pool

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful relaxing two weeks at this lovely villa, set in the peaceful countryside not far from Bergerac. We were warmly greeted by Jean- Louis and his wife, who took the trouble to talk us through the do's and don'ts of the property and then left us discreetly to ourselves; they also provided us with a lovely welcome basket of wines, etc. The pool is fantastic and when our daughter and son in law joined us for the second week, he was in it at every opportunity; brilliant idea having the cover set up so you could have it out in the open when the sun shone or covered if it rained or was cool. The wildlife is amazing, roe deer, red squirrels, every kind of tit imaginable, jays and so much more - the tits and squirrels are of course encouraged by the food put out for them. Do eat at Jean-Louis favourite Restuarant Le Grappe D'or - fantastic Sunday lunch.

Owner's Response: Hello, you've been our latest guests of this season (2017), during the 2 first weeks of September. Days are a bit less sunny, some were rainy, and the nights are getting a bit colder. But as you say, the pool is still at more than 28° (mostly around 30°), and with its shelter, very pleasant to use at any time. We are now back in our home , too late for the pool, but tits, squirrels and roe deers are still there... And we are ready to welcome our future guests in 2018. And at this time, 4 of them have already booked... We were glad to meet you. Warm regards... Jean-Louis and Anne-Marie.

Owner's Response: Hello, it was very nice to have you home... And we are glad you felt "at home". You've chosen to travel by plane and rent a car, which seems to be the most comfortable and perhaps one of the cheapest way to come to us from UK. And the airport is only about 15 minutes from home by the ring road. Our door will always be open if you come back one day to Bergerac. Warm regards. Jean-Louis and Anne-Marie.

Really ejoyable holiday for adults and kids

  • 5 of 5

On our arrival at Bergerac Airport, Jean-Louis and Anne-Marie (property owners), were on hand to meet and greet us, and from then on, could not do enough to make our stay as enjoyable as possible at Villa Melhenga, even ferrying us back to the Airport on our departure day. The accommodation suited our needs perfectly (4 adults & 4 children) and was spotless and well maintained. The villa is located in beautiful countryside with marvellous views of the surrounding areas. The children loved it, the heated swimming pool and the "adventure" play area were particular favourites and the variety of games that were provided ensured that there was no chance of boredom creeping in; they really enjoyed their stay and would certainly want to return.

Jean-Louis and Anne-Marie were ever so helpful. We had not hired any transport preferring instead to use taxis when required. However, Anne-Marie insisted on ferrying the girls to the local supermarket on our day of arrival and Jean-Louis insisting on taking the family to and from Bergerac for our planned sight seeing trip. The pictures of the villa do not do it justice and anyone booking a holiday at Villa Melhenga will not be disappointed and all due credit to Jean-Louis and Anne-Marie for providing us with a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.

Owner's Response: Hi Bill and family, we were very happy to receive you all at Villa Melhenga. And of course the four kids (3 years old for our little sweety, 9 for the elder) were more than welcome (and as you did, we'll keep secret the little surprise reserved for wise children...). For sure, our countryside is pleasant, but as you've seen, there is no public transport nearby, and taxis are not a suitable solution, even if you don't plan to visit a lot. That's why we recommend renting a car if you travel by air (11 UK airports serve Bergerac : Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edimbourg, Exeter, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, London City, London Stansted, Manchester and Southampton, in addition to Bruxelles-Charleroi and Rotterdam...). But the most important thing is that you enjoyed your holiday, and this is our best reward. Hope to see you again one day... Warm regards. Jean-Louis and Anne-Marie.

Villa Melhenga is everything it appears to be and more! An absolute gem in the beautiful Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Melhenga for two weeks in August with 3 adults & 5 children aged 18 to 6.

From the moment we arrived, we knew we had found somewhere special; the huge grounds with it's woodlands, fruit bearing trees (which you can pick & eat), fields & plentiful wildlife are simply beautiful. Villa Melhenga is a real home from home, lovingly built & furnished, full of interesting artefacts & equipped with everything you could need during your holiday. Clean & spacious yet homely & cosy, it's a delight to stay in.

We arrived late after a long train journey from the UK to a very warm welcome from Jean-Louis & Anne-Marie; not only did we have a basket full of local delicacies but they also provided us with some provisions for the evening & next morning so we did not have to worry about finding a grocery store so late (the first of many thoughtful touches that made our stay so special). The cheese, ham & tomato sandwiches, a much needed beer followed by a late-night swim in the heated, covered pool was a perfect way to start our holiday.

There is so much to do at Villa Melhenga we didn't venture out for days - the heated swimming pool was sparkling clean, soft-lined (great for kids) & the motorised retractable cover meant we could use it in the open during the hot, sunny days & use it covered at night. There are many inflatables, floats & arm-bands provided for use in the pool. The adults enjoyed games of badminton, table tennis, boules & even a small round of golf in the grounds & the kids loved the zip-wire, treehouse, swings, scooters & many other toys provided for them to play with.

There is a spacious outside cooking & eating area - we used this regularly & ate outside most evenings listening to the crickets & birds as we watched the sunset. At night the lack of light pollution means the view of the stars simply is breath-taking.

The property is ideally located; close to Bergerac for easy access to shops & restaurants but far enough away for total peace & seclusion. The grounds are not overlooked & the caravan where Jean-Louis & Anne-Marie stay is out of sight but near enough to contact them in case of any issues (there wasn't any but it was comforting to know nonetheless). Jean-Louis & Anne-Marie are wonderful people who really go the extra mile to make your stay as perfect as possible. We feel incredibly lucky to have experienced the beauty of Villa Melhenga as places as special as this are hard to find.

Would we recommend? Absolutely!

Owner's Response: What could we say to start except : WOW! We are very glad that you (apparently...) enjoyed your stay. It seems normal that after such a long journey (more than 12 hours train!) you could find some refreshments to cheer you up and something to eat, on Saturday evening, everything is closed, over here. Glad too because you did enjoy the summer sky at night. In our modern and bright cities, we can't see the Milky Way anymore. Here, just switch off the lights, lay back in a deckchair, and here it is, between Cassiopeia and the Big Dipper, among thousands of stars... Well, it was really very nice to meet you too. A special thought for Rosy, Tyler and Faith, the youngest of the five children. So long...

First class villa with everything you need.

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic holiday from start to finish in a great location. Bergerac has some lovely restaurants and is so close. We had 4 weeks here as a family of 5. The villa was incredibly well kitted out and having a cover for the pool was excellent for the odd rainy/windy day. All the outdoor games and pool equipment were brilliant. Jean-Louis was on hand if we needed any information or help; which we did the days follwing my husbands cycling accident! Definitely highly recommend this villa.

Owner's Response: Hello dear Micky, one month of booking, here is a record difficult to beat... Does anyone want to take up the challenge? One month is far enough to become friends... And as we are now neighbours (Issigeac is very close to Bergerac), we are very glad to know that we'll keep in touch and see you and your so nice family next summer. Our warmest thoughts for you all, with a big hug for our adorable Lily (3 years old). Jean-Louis and Anne-Marie.

Une villa dans la nature

  • 5 of 5
