Principe Real is an attractive neighborhood extends north of Bairro Alto with a pleasant square and shady garden.
Named "Royal Prince" in honor of Queen Maria II´s first born D. Pedro V, although it was once only known for its antique shops and gay bars and clubs, it´s now becoming also a residential and shopping area, especially along Rua da Escola Politecnica and Rua Dom Pedro V. Going down Rua de São Marçal leads to another charming leafy square and garden, the Praça das Flores, right in the center of this peaceful district of colorful town houses.
It remains essentially a beautiful district, filled with gardens, a couple of the city´s most tranquil squares, and colorful mansions.
In the center of the square is a cafe and some exotic trees, including a hundred-year-old cedar that looks like a giant umbrella, all surrounded by colorful 19th century mansions. At number 26 is Ribeiro da Cunha Palace, a pink and white building dating from 1877, whose architect wanted to create a romantic evocation of the Moorish world. It includes horseshoe arch windows, pyramidal spires, and circular, Oriental-style domes topped by pinnacles, now housing a shopping gallery called Embaixada.
The abundant charm has turned it into one of the most sought-after areas to live in the city.
Old buildings are being renovated and a young population is moving in.
Down the hill to East is the small neighborhood of São Bento, known for the neoclassical Parliament building and more antique shops down Rua de São Bento.
Down to the West side lies Avenida da Liberdade, one of the most cosmopolitan avenues of the city with international designer boutiques and restaurants of famous chefs. And finally, down to the South are Chiado and Baixa toward the Tagus River, the city´s traditional shopping district with several shops offering a wide range of temptations.
The apartment is located in Rua da Alegria in an old building renovated. It’s a 3rd floor and the building doesn’t have elevator.
As you enter the apartment lies the living room with two ambiences, a relaxing area with comfortable sofas and a TV with international channels and WI-FI, and a dining area with a table and chairs that sits 6 Guests. The living room gives access to a large balcony perfect for a nice breakfast or an evening drink.
There you will find the entrance for the first bedroom, charmingly decorated with traditional restored furniture, with two single beds and a wardrobe and access to the balcony.
On the hall you will find another chamber, ideal for use as an office or library, as well as an extra bedroom since it has a sofa-bed that can accommodate one Guest, also with entrance to the balcony.
Along the corridor is the kitchen equipped with modern appliances and all the crockery and cutlery you need to prepare a meal. It has dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and freezer, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, toaster, iron and ironing board. The kitchen has access to another large balcony with a panoramic view over the city.
Next to the kitchen, a bathroom with shower serves the two other chambers.
Finally, the master bedroom en suite, also gracefully furnished with typical Portuguese furniture, a king size bed and a wardrobe and access to the balcony, and a bathroom with shower and hairdryer.
