Welcome to An Mowhay (rhymes with Cow-ee), a 200 year old converted hay barn, tastefully converted to provide a comfortable holiday cottage for four people. It also provides the setting for short therapeutic retreats, (see below).

An Mowhay is located in a stunning part of West Cornwall in the hamlet of Brane, close to Penzance. Brane hosts a working farm and a few other holiday cottages nearby. Owners Simon and Ros live close by and a warm welcome awaits! We are dog friendly!

An Mowhay is well equipped to provide a homely environment during your stay in Cornwall. The cottage includes:

Two bedrooms each with a king-size bed (second king-size bed can be made into two single beds if desired)

An Mowhay is situated in the small hamlet of Brane, just west of Sancreed and five miles from Penzance. The hamlet is 1.5 miles off the A30 and lies in the depths of the farming community of West Penwith. Footpaths lead in all directions, including Carn Brae, St Just, Sancreed, St Buryan and Newbridge. The cottage offers quiet and peaceful respite after a day on one of the beautiful beaches or visiting local attractions.

West Cornwall is home to artists, potters and art galleries such as the Leach Pottery in St.Ives, The Tate and the award-winning Penlee House Gallery and Museum. Contemporary art can be found at Newlyn Art Gallery. Local artists exhibit their work throughout West Cornwall and many studios are open during the season. There are lots of stunning beaches in easy reach, suitable for families with young children and for novice and experienced surfers. Nearest beaches are the popular Sennen and Porthcurno and the less well known Porthchapel, Gwenver, Pedn Vounder and Nanjizel.

The famous Minack Theatre is a short drive away and throughout the summer offers a range of outdoor plays and events.

For the walker there are stunning routes inland and along the coast.

We also offer therapeutic retreats. If you are seeking time out to explore challenges that you may be facing in your life, these retreats provide a supportive and nurturing environment in which to do this. Structured counselling sessions are provided by Simon, an accredited psychotherapist completing his registration with UKCP. A beautiful secluded converted Hay Barn

We loved An Mowhay, a gorgeous cosy converted Hay barn. Beautifully restored in secluded rural Cornwall surrounded by farm buildings in a small hamlet.

We stayed in February so welcomed the cosy wood burner in the mornings and evenings! Long walks and fabulous beaches nearby. Highly recommended for anyone - couples or a family of 4 seeking solitude in wild and windy Cornwall. Simon & Ros (and Dora!) are great hosts and have everything you need in the cottage. Would def return.

Lovely, peaceful, relaxing family stay

Great place to chill out in - quiet and peaceful yet minutes from Sennen and Gweniver beaches, Penzance and all good things on the Penberth peninsula. Comfy cottage with everything you need - patio was lovely (on the one nice day of weather we had!!!) - but also loads to do if wet. Nice walk to St Just (1 hour walk), Minack theatre = a must, Gweniver beach with the dog was great (there is a car park on the top - not marked on maps), Smart Surf school in Sennen was excellent, St Mike's Mount is a must too- cheers Simon, Ros & family for making it so peaceful for us - see you again

Lovely base for a family holiday

Just back from a lovely spring holiday in An Mowhay near Penzance. The cottage is great for a family of four, very well equipped and in pretty surroundings. The owners (and Dora their gentle golden retriever) are very welcoming and the garden and patio are a great space for playing and relaxing in. A short drive from fantastic beaches such as Sennen Cove, Porthkernow and Portgwarra, a scenic ten minute walk from the grass-covered remains of an iron age settlement, which our children loved to play hide and seek in. Very good value.

Very good cottage for west Cornwall base

this cottage was perfect for a base for West Cornwall,it was very comfortable, clean

and just right for 4 adults,Simon and Ros were very good hosts and their fresh bread would get "star baking" on "Bake off" a must is the Minack theatre We would recommend this any time

Ferienhaus Nähe Lands End

Wir haben uns in der Gegend um Lands End sehr wohlgefühlt. Der Kontakt zu Ros (Vermieterin) war unkompliziert.

Die Lage des Hauses ist perfekt.

Das Wohnzimmer ist gemütlich, aber die Küchenzeile ist doch recht abgenutzt. Die Töpfe und Pfannen müssten erneuert werden und der Geschirrspüler benötigt eine Grundreinigung.

Die Matratzen im kleinen Schlafzimmer sind komplett durchgelegen.

Das Badezimmer ist dringend renovierungsbedürftig.

Aber das größte Problem im Haus ist die Feuchtigkeit im Erdgeschoss, vielleicht ist es bei trockenem Wetter besser.

Owner's Response: Thank you Lars for your feedback. As you know, our holiday cottage is run by our family and we live next door. We are always available if our guests have any problems, which we aim to resolve as soon as possible. I am very sorry that you were not entirely happy with your stay. Since then, we have replaced the saucepans which as you have pointed out, had come to the end of their life. The dishwasher is now shiny and sparkling. The bathroom is due for redecoration this year and we are also planning to re-varnish the wooden kitchen work-tops, so I hope that this will make these facilities seem less worn. The single mattresses on the Captain's bed are covered in a thick, king-size booster mattress for adults. We only use the single mattresses on their own when dividing the bed into two singles, usually for children. Thanks for letting us know about the damp. I am sorry that this was a problem for you during your stay. Damp in old granite buildings can often be an issue in the west of the UK. It can be more noticeable during cooler weather and the more people who are living in a building. It is caused by the heat generated in the building, condensing on the granite walls and with regard to our cottage, has nothing to do with the floors which are either suspended floor boards of damp-proofed concrete. We try to maintain a comfortable level of humidity in the house using a de-humidifier. This is available for use by guests. The moisture in the air can also be kept to a minimum by ensuring that good ventilation is maintained, using the bathroom extractor fan and ensuring that the windows are left open a little throughout the house. I do hope that your experience has not put you off visiting Cornwall again. Best wishes, Simon

Just far too short!!

Very lovely and cosy house in a tiny village. Carn Euny is very close, and very intersting. A nice walk with the dog and the daughter :-) The surrounding beaches are stunning and beautyful cities are very easy reachable, eventhough driving was a real challenge for us ;-)

The cottage is situated in the heart of the local farming community, within a short drive of beautiful beaches and coast land walks. The area is an important bird watching, archaeology and art and crafts area. There are ample surfing and swimming beaches and numerous art galleries to visit. The area offers a wide range of cafes, pubs and restaurants. Penzance and St Ives are busy shopping towns, popular with both locals and visitors. There are some children's theme parks within 30 minutes drive and 15 minutes away, the famous Minack Theatre, an open air venue set on the cliff top at Porthcurno. St Ives is home to The Tate Gallery, the Leach Pottery and the Barbara Hepworth Garden Gallery. There are endless rural and wildlife walks outside the cottage, taking you in all directions. Nearby are a number of internationally revered sub tropical gardens.
