Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + 1.5 baths (sleeps 4)

Enjoy the beauty of Bucks County while sleeping in the oldest home in New Hope. It is a Historic landmark, located on the banks of the Delaware River. Located right in town, so you can walk anywhere in New Hope, or cross the bridge and you're in Lambertville, NJ.

The house has all the charm of the 1700's, but has been updated for your enjoyment. There are fireplaces in both bedrooms, as well as the family room and living room.

The house is a perfect "get away" for a long weekend or vacation lasting weeks. The house works well for four people, but you can put a child on the sofa bed in the family room.

Since the house is located right in the middle of town, there can be noise from the businesses on the block at night. If you are looking for a quite holiday, my house will not work well for you. If you want to be able to walk to restaurants, bars, the Play house as well as crossing the bridge into Lambertville, then my house will work well for you.

Each of the bedrooms have comfortable bed with views to the river. The family room has the "Lazyboy" for those afternoons of just lazying around and enjoying the sounds of the river.

You are a 20 minute ride to Princeton, and New York City is a little over an hour away by train. But remember, you do not have to leave the area. New Hope and Lambertville have numerous antique stores and of course the famous flea markets. There are many charming restaurants that you can walk to and the walking trails are just at the end of the block..

Excellent Comfortable Historic Home

  • 5 of 5

The Van Sant House is lovely. It is literally in the middle of downtown New Hope. The house is comfortable, good air conditioning, comfortable seating and a great historic home. The kitchen is small but perfectly useable with all the necessary components. The house was clean, well maintained and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The yard is on the side of the house and very nice but not private if that matters to you, it adjoins the main drag. It is not quiet at night until 1:00 am on weekends...because it is next to and across from restaurant bars and folks are enjoying themselves, so bring your ear plugs and enjoy!

What a lovely little house!

  • 5 of 5

We came for a wedding and so had little time to enjoy the house or exploring the area, but we could see that this is a great place to do that from. The house is cozy - just two bedrooms. Each bedroom has a fireplace that makes a cooler weather stay appealing. The furnishings are comfortable with lots of original artwork and interesting antiques (definitely not a place for young, active children). Since the house was built before indoor plumbing and must have had a sperate kitchen, the kitchen and baths are clever adaptations but they are tiny. There is a patio with a barbacue outside that we didn't have a chance to use, but looked pleasant. The place is great for two couples traveling together who would like some separate privacy since the house can be sort of divided into an upstairs and downstairs apartments (the kitchen and small dinning table are only upstairs). It is in the middle of town, so there can be street noise at night - but we only experienced it one night of the two we were there and even on the one night, it didn't last that long. Since it is a historic house in town, we had fun watching folks get their picture taken out front. Great brunch at the Blue Moose across the street.

Charming historic house

  • 5 of 5

Great location! In the heart of the action! Sometimes it feels like you are part of a historical exhibit because of the people stopping and taking pics of the house! Great fun!

Perfect for a wedding weekend.

Local rumor has it that George Washington once stayed here???

Perfect location with lots of charm

We had a wonderful weekend here. It is like staying in a museum. It is right in the heart of great food and shops and bars. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone.

Very nice house

  • 4 of 5

We liked the house very much. The cleaning service can do a better job with the vacuuming, particularly around the fireplaces and under the table at the top of the steps. The kitchen is tiny and needs a bigger coffee maker, especially if you have 4 people staying (which we did).

It's really an ideal place for 2 couples, since the bedrooms are on each floor and one has privacy. The staircase is a bit dicey, but that's just the way it is with old houses.

The house is situated in a popular area, with bars and restaurants surrounding it (literally). If you like walking out the front door and having numerous dining and bar options available, it's just perfect. If noise is an issue for you, this house can be a problem. For instance, across the street is a bar called Karla's, and folks were out smoking and talking all night long. We found it very disruptive. (Tip: you can download a noise machine to your mobile phone and that helps, or bring earplugs.)

We had a lot of rain the weekend we were there, so the outdoor noise wasn't as bad as usual. Numerous people told us that in general, the noise is pretty extreme. The bedroom windows are steps from the sidewalk, where people from the bar go out for a smoke.

Make sure you bring supplies, such as coffee and half-and-half before arriving. The grocery story is a drive away, and convenience stores are non-existent. We had to walk to Lambertville to get coffee and half-and-half.

Couldn't have been more pleased!

Such a special place! You can feel the history in this house. Barbara was very responsive. We went to the Bucks County Playhouse right across the street to see a great performance. The location of the house could not be more ideal. Walk out your front door and in 10 steps you arrive at one of many excellent restaurants. Will definitely return!
