About Mark Beaney

We are a family of 5 from East Yorkshire who just love our skiing and the skiing in Zell am See is as good as you can get, however we decided to purchase our apartment in Zell after finally visiting in the summer. We could not believe how wonderful this resort was in the summer with the Lake to swim in and the walking and cycling in the mountains we knew that we would be coming back winter and summer for many years to come.

Mark Beaney purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Mark Beaney chose Zell am See

We finally chose this property for it wonderful location, 75m from he nearest ski lift and 100m from the lake shore.

When we first viewed the apartment we were amazed by the spacious nature of the bedrooms, kitchen, lounge and balcony. Compared to some ski apartments we have rented in the past this apartment had everything.

The kitchen is fully equipped and there is seating for six adults around the dining table.

The views from the balcony over the lake and of the ski runs coming down the mountain are stunning.

The apartment is also located close to the train station and the bus station which have regular services to Salzburg airport approx. 1hr away.

What makes this apartment unique

The prime benefit of this apartment is its ease of access to all the amenities of Zell am See. In winter the ski lift is a short walk away, in summer the town centre and Lake are also a short stroll away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful week. Fantastic hiking, good food and drinks. We are definitely coming back.

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

Lovely property, clean tidy and a good size for 4 adults. The location right near the station with a car park opposite is ideal, with lifts very close and only a short walk into the centre of town. Zell am Zee is a great destination for skiing with some of the prettiest views from up the mountain with the lake below. I would recommend this property as a great place to stay and very good value.

Good location, easy access to slopes, restaurants and cafes.

  • 4 of 5

Main bed was too hard for us and general information about the apartment hadn’t been sent to me prior to arrival but everything else was really good. Thank you Mark for responding to my questions so quickly and providing information on taxis and transfers.

Sehr zentrale Lage

  • 4 of 5

Sehr zentrale Lage, fußläufig zu den Skiliften, allerdings auch an einer befahrenen Hauptstraße. Wohnung sauber aber doch leicht renovierungsbedürftig.

Winter Activities

Ski and Snowboard

Zell am See/Kaprun - The vast Zell am See-Kaprun skiing area is perfectly suited for professional skiers / snowboarders and beginners alike. Both the Schmittenhöhe and the Kitzsteinhorn promise pure skiing enjoyment on diverse ski slopes in the midst of snowy mountain landscapes. The Schmitten & Maiskogel are the perfect location for skiing families.

Salbach/HinterGlem SkiCircus - 200 km of prepared slopes, 55 modern cable cars and lifts, 10 km cross-country tracks , snow parks, SkiMovie courses, speed courses, Learn-to-Ride park, playgrounds Now, carving slopes, GS race courses, flood-lit slope, moguls and un-groomed slopes and much much more.

Ice Skating - If the temperature is low enough you can experience the delights of ice skating on the frozen Lake Zell, otherwise you can visit the local ice arena to skate or watch the local Zell am See ice hockey team play in the Austrian league.

Cross Country Skiing - As far as the eye can see, cross-country trails of a total of 40 kilometres in length wind their way all through Zell am See-Kaprun and into the neighbouring regions.

Tobogganing - There are many tobogganing runs in the Zell am See area that can be enjoyed by all the family. The floodlit night run accessible by special bus is particularly spectacular.

Snow Shoeing - Guided winter hiking and snow shoeing tours of the Schmiten are available from the local Ski Schools.

Wellness/Spa - There are several spa and wellness centres in Zell am See and the surrounding area, we would recommend the Salzbergerhof Hotel and Tauren Spa at Kaprun.

Summer Activities

Opening hours are much more restrictive than in the UK, so assume that all grocery shops are closed on Saturday afternoons, Sundays and public holidays although some shops may open for a couple of hours in the morning.

For late nights, Sundays and public holidays the Jet petrol station (Brucker Bundes Strasse 108) has a limited selection of basics but you can get milk, bread etc.

Billa: located in pedestrian area a short walk from the apartment, opens at 7am daily (except Sunday & holidays). This is a very well stocked shop.

Spar: on Brucker BundesStrasse. This is closer and recently upgraded but in our opinion does not quite have the selection of the Billa.

Vegetable shop: An excellent shop on Schlossplatz. Also has good selection of Asian goods.

Bakeries: Open early (not on holidays), most at 6.45 -7am so great for fresh bread & croissants & delicious pastries & cakes.

Delicatessens: Good cured meats etc available

Villa Crazy Daisy - opposite Grand Hotel – Good food and excellent après ski.

KupferKessler – Directly opposite apartment, good food and bar, also does takeaways.

Zum Hirschen – Excellent local cuisine situated in town centre

Lebzelter – Good food with outdoor seating area in summer, located just off main square

Steinerwirt - Excellent traditional Austrian food with a modern twist, also has children’s play room and garden area for summer dining.

Ristorante Giuseppe - mainly pizzas worth a visit for quick meal.

Lohninghof - Seeuferstrasse 6, Thumersbach Good Austrian food in beautiful location, in the winter season you will need to book a couple of days in advance not to be disappointed.

And for the special occasion

Hotel Salzburgerhof - Zells only 5 star hotel provides

award winning cuisine and a wine list to match.

Meyers Restaurant at Schloss Prielau - 2 star Michelin restaurant in Maishofen. Meyers is the regions ultimate dining experience.

Ski Hire/Sports Equipment

Tourist Office

This is less than 100 metres from our apartment on Brucker BundesStrasse.

Opening hours:

Monday to Friday (9am to 6pm)

Saturday (9am to 12 noon & 2pm to 6pm)

Sundays & public holidays (9am to 12 noon)

Beauty Treatments/Massages

Hotel Salzbergerhof Spa is probably the best in Zell.

It is difficult to get a booking after skiing (this time tends to be reserved for residents) but at other times or outside the ski season, it is relatively easy to book.

Prices are much cheaper than comparable 5 star hotels.

Tauern Spa – Large and luxurious spa outside town towards Kaprun. With 48000sq m of wellness facilities the Tauern Spa will cater for all you relaxation needs.
