About Hilda Shorten

My husband and I enjoy walking the cliffs, and the beach, and I play golf on the links course in Lahinch. We like meeting friends, and having a chat by an open fire in one of the nearby pubs where we might be lucky enough to find an impromptu music session going on.

Hilda Shorten purchased this house in 2003

Why Hilda Shorten chose County Clare

County Clare offers a wealth of places to explore - fabulous scenery, and lovely walks - a ferry across the Shannon Estuary makes it possible to take a day trip to Kerry, and Galway is little more than an hours drive away or one can take the scenic route through Ballyvaughan and around Galway bay.

Liscannor is close enough to Shannon International airport that passengers from the USA, UK, and Europe can reach there by car in less than an hour.

Clare people are extremely friendly, and the location of our house is a few minutes walk from local restaurants, pubs, and all amenities - it really is a 'stress free zone'.

What makes this house unique

Walkers Paradise - Spectacular Cliffs of Moher to Doolin walk. Some of the world's best golf courses.

Boat trips to Moher, and to the Gaelic speaking Aran island of Inis Oirr. Good pubs - award winning restaurant within walking distance - Traditional music in Doolin and Miltown Malbay - music locally - sometime impromptu.

Explore the beautiful Burren Flora, and do some rock climbing. Visit the Ailwee caves near Ballyvaughan.

Surf, or learn to surf, in Lahinch.

Have a family game of Pitch and Putt - golf using only 2 clubs - on the course between Liscannor and Lahinch - about 1.5 km.

Have a swim, and bring the children to look for crabs in the rock pools of Claughan - a five min drive or about 20 mins on foot. Liscannor is a place to relax..

The house was well laid out and roomy. Hilda welcomed us generously. Each of our family and guests felt comfortable. It was a short walk to the village.

Family Friendly Cottage Home

  • 4 of 5

Our family of eight had a great stay here, Hilda was great about contacting and updating us, she welcomed us with some tea and coffee supplies, her Asst Kathy came by just as we arrived to welcome us and see us into the home. We found it a great location for our plans, very close to Cliffs of Moher and we were able to be touristy the same day we arrived. We had a multigenerational group, and the facilities were neat and tidy, cozy when we were home, and heat was individually adjustable in the bedrooms--this suited my father in law perfect- since he likes to be warm and the rest of the group are happier cool. Nice bakery nearby, and small grocery store. Was a great home base for us to see the sights in Blarney, and Knappogue, and several pubs nearby. Would stay again if we were to choose the same area. Our younger ones were so happy to have wifi too.

Nice house in a good location.

  • 4 of 5

I spent 1 week at this property with my husband and 4 young children. It was an ideal base for us to explore the local area. The house was clean and Hilda had kindly left us a few essential food items to get us started. Everything we needed was there, although perhaps a radio or a cd player would be a good extra. A neighbour brought us a box of Lego which the children thoroughly enjoyed using in the evenings. Hilda had left us a local number to contact in case we needed anything. There was a tennis court and basket ball nets on the site but you do need to bring your own equipment. A 5 minute walk away there was a shop and the village was 10 minutes walk away. In the village there are 3 pubs and 2 hotels. We ate in both hotels and the food was very good. There was plenty of literature in the house with suggestions for days out. The cliffs and the caves were great days out for us. We visited the local open farm but thought it was very expensive and be warned crazy golf is extra! We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would recommend it as a good place to stay.

Great place, would definitely recommend it!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house, it is comfortable and spacious with large bright rooms and excellent facilities (the power shower was amazing!). There is a space for two cars on the drive and roadside parking to the front, it sits near the end of a quiet cul de sac and there are great play areas for children away from the house with a wide grassy verge just in front. There is a shop just on the main road (2 minutes walk) and some excellent pub dining in the village.

There are excellent walking and hiking opportunies in the area and this house is ideally located to make full use of these. The various paths are clearly detailed in the literature left out by Hilda. The coastal path to Doolin starts just near the house which follows along the spectacular Cliffs of Moher.

Hilda responded quickly to any queries I had before and after booking and was available during our stay to help out if any issues arose. We really enjoyed our trip and will be recommending this house to any of my friends that fancy a trip to the West of Ireland.

Owner's Response: Many thanks to Barry for the positive feedback, and for taking the time to write a review. We're delighted that the accommodation suited his family so well, and that they enjoyed the walks and scenery: in particular the 'spectacular' coastal route along the Cliffs of Moher. It's lovely to hear that he will recommend the area to his friends - they will be very welcome, should they decide to visit Ireland. Barry came by car from the UK, which is handy for touring around the countryside, but Shannon airport is also very accessible, has many reasonable car hire companies, and is only an hour's drive from our house.

Très agréable maison de vacances

  • 4 of 5
