About Hilda Shorten
My husband and I enjoy walking the cliffs, and the beach, and I play golf on the links course in Lahinch. We like meeting friends, and having a chat by an open fire in one of the nearby pubs where we might be lucky enough to find an impromptu music session going on.
Hilda Shorten purchased this House in 2003
Why Hilda Shorten chose Liscannor
County Clare offers a wealth of places to explore - fabulous scenery, and lovely walks - a ferry across the Shannon Estuary makes it possible to take a day trip to Kerry, and Galway is little more than an hours drive away or one can take the scenic route through Ballyvaughan and around Galway bay. Liscannor is close enough to Shannon International airport that passengers from the USA, UK, and Europe can reach there by car in less than an hour. Clare people are extremely friendly, and the location of our house is a few minutes walk from local restaurants, pubs, and all amenities - it really is a 'stress free zone'.
What makes this House unique
Walkers Paradise - Spectacular Cliffs of Moher to Doolin walk. Some of the world's best golf courses. Boat trips to Moher, and to the Gaelic speaking Aran island of Inis Oirr. Good pubs - award winning restaurant within walking distance - Traditional music in Doolin and Miltown Malbay - music locally - sometime impromptu. Explore the beautiful Burren Flora, and do some rock climbing. Visit the Ailwee caves near Ballyvaughan. Surf, or learn to surf, in Lahinch. Have a family game of Pitch and Putt - golf using only 2 clubs - on the course between Liscannor and Lahinch - about 1.5 km. Have a swim, and bring the children to look for crabs in the rock pools of Claughan - a five min drive or about 20 mins on foot. Liscannor is a place to relax..

Exceeded our expectations!
We arrived after our day of driving and were pleasantly surprised that all of our basic needs for breakfast were there for us when we walked into the door. There also was milk and juice in the fridge. The nights were chilly so we really appreciated the 2 nights of firewood that were laid out for us and enjoyed a cozy fire in the fireplace. Shortly after we finished unpacking the car, the owners arrived to welcome us and explain how the heat and other stuff worked. They gave us some tips on what and how to see the local attractions. They invited us to join them at the local pub (Egan's) for a pint (not sure if they do this for everybody!) Enjoyed the conversation! There are 2 pubs (Egan's and McHugh's), a restaurant (Vaughn's) and a hotel (Cliffs of Moher) only .25 miles away, an easy and safe walk from the house. Don't discount the hotel lounge for live music and a pint or two.
The house was a few minutes drive to the Cliffs of Moher, a 20 minute drive to the ferry to visit the Aran islands, we did both! We also drove to Lehinch, not golfers but pretty famous course but we did go to Danny Mac's (great dinner), Doolin (traditional music) Ennis, Galway, Foynes (flying boat museum) and Tralee (2 hr drive!) We were busy as you can tell and would not change anything!
Many thanks - you'll be most welcome should you decide to visit Ireland again. We don't get to bring guests to the pub very often so you got us on a good night and we really enjoyed spending that time with you. Delighted to hear that you found all the fun spots you enjoyed your holiday 😃. Hilda
Good for family with children
We spent an enjoyable 4 days at Hilda's cottage. There was plenty of room for 3 generations and it made a good base for exploring the surrounding areas - Burren, Arran Islands, Cliffs of Mohrer, etc. We enjoyed the 10 minute walk into Liscannor for pastries in the morning and dinner and pubs in the evenings. The cottage looks to be used mainly as a rental and is worn in areas, but was clean and adequately furnished upon arrival. My 7 year old loved that there were cows behind the cottage to watch.
Reviews are always welcome and we are pleased that this extended family group enjoyed the location and surroundings of our house, and we're also happy to take note of anything that might be improved upon. The property is, of course, rented, but it is also used by the owners who are very aware of the importance of providing a well maintained, comfortable, and pleasent atmosphere for guests to enjoy holidays with friends and family. Appliances are new, bed linen and towels are of very high quality, unlimited wifi usage is provided, and two 5* reviews submitted to another major site for bookings through them in the last two weeks confirm that our guests continue to be happy with their experience.
Many thanks to all.
Exactly as I'd pictured!
The house is exactly as pictured online (which is always a concern when booking online). Very clean, very accessible. Hilda was easy to converse with online and gave great ideas on outings for our family. I couldn't get over the stunning sunrises and sunsets that were visible from every angle of the house. Seriously, how can you see the sunset from around the entire home? You can see the Cliffs of Moher from the upstairs window, while you're listening to the distant moos from the neighboring cows. We truly enjoyed our stay and would come back in heartbeat if we're ever in County Clare again. :)
Patrick & Tracey.
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and that you got the weather to experience the long evenings and the stunning sunsets we saw in May. We'll be delighted to welcome you back to Clare anytime.
Best wishes. Hilda
We were very comfortable and felt at home.
The house was well laid out and roomy. Hilda welcomed us generously. Each of our family and guests felt comfortable. It was a short walk to the village.
Many thanks. You were dream guests and would be welcome back any time you visit Ireland again. Really lovely to meet you.
Family Friendly Cottage Home
Our family of eight had a great stay here, Hilda was great about contacting and updating us, she welcomed us with some tea and coffee supplies, her Asst Kathy came by just as we arrived to welcome us and see us into the home. We found it a great location for our plans, very close to Cliffs of Moher and we were able to be touristy the same day we arrived. We had a multigenerational group, and the facilities were neat and tidy, cozy when we were home, and heat was individually adjustable in the bedrooms--this suited my father in law perfect- since he likes to be warm and the rest of the group are happier cool. Nice bakery nearby, and small grocery store. Was a great home base for us to see the sights in Blarney, and Knappogue, and several pubs nearby. Would stay again if we were to choose the same area. Our younger ones were so happy to have wifi too.
Many thanks Kathy. Delighted the house worked well for you and you enjoyed your holiday. Best wishes. Hilda
Nice house in a good location.
I spent 1 week at this property with my husband and 4 young children. It was an ideal base for us to explore the local area. The house was clean and Hilda had kindly left us a few essential food items to get us started. Everything we needed was there, although perhaps a radio or a cd player would be a good extra. A neighbour brought us a box of Lego which the children thoroughly enjoyed using in the evenings. Hilda had left us a local number to contact in case we needed anything. There was a tennis court and basket ball nets on the site but you do need to bring your own equipment. A 5 minute walk away there was a shop and the village was 10 minutes walk away. In the village there are 3 pubs and 2 hotels. We ate in both hotels and the food was very good. There was plenty of literature in the house with suggestions for days out. The cliffs and the caves were great days out for us. We visited the local open farm but thought it was very expensive and be warned crazy golf is extra! We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would recommend it as a good place to stay.
Many Thanks . Glad you enjoyed the holiday, and hope to see you all again soon.
Fabulous cliffs walks. Traditional music. Great seafood.
Surf lessons - surfing, and kite surfing.
