Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday barn in Honiton - The Milkshed

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Luxury Barn Conversion With Lovely Views

The Milkshed is a newly converted old stone barn which has been thoughtfully designed to provide luxury and comfortable holiday accommodation for up to four guests (plus cot). There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a wonderful open plan sitting room/dining area and kitchen. The private garden is very large and fully enclosed - it includes a lawned area, herb garden and sitting area. Special features include a wood burning fire, underfloor heating throughout and a freestanding claw bath in the master bedroom. The property is eco-friendly and both hot water and heating are provided by a state of the art biomass boiler.

One of the owners is a fully trained chef to Michelin level and is happy to provide gourmet dinners, seasonal picnic hampers or a simple welcome dinner on request so that you can sit back and relax without worrying about the cooking.

Changeover day is on Friday with a minimum 7 night stay in peak seasons (short breaks are possible at other times, with arrival on a Monday or Friday).

About Katie Hollyer

Owners, Mark and Katie live in the main farmhouse so are onsite if needed. After many years working in the hospitality industry in both London and abroad, they decided to move to the beautiful Devon countryside to raise their young family. Mark has swapped his role as a Head Chef in top-end restaurants for the more relaxed pace of life as a Private Chef. Katie works part-time managing weddings and events and project managed the conversion of the barn.

Katie Hollyer purchased this barn in 2012

Why Katie Hollyer chose East Devon

Mark and Katie chose the property for its tranquility, space and charm. In addition to the Milkshed, there is a main farmhouse - a 16th Century thatched Devon longhouse and a small cottage which Katie's parents use as a country retreat.

What makes this barn unique

As well as its spacious and luxurious interior, the Milkshed offers a large private (enclosed) garden and has access to a gently sloping 4-acre field which includes a stream to paddle in, children's play area, pathways to explore and a tree plantation. Catering is available for guests staying at The Milkshed.

The Milkshed - a beautiful holiday home.

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned to Australia after spending our final holiday week in The Milkshed - one of the best holiday houses that we have stayed in. Katie and Mark have done such a good job in renovating and decorating the property and were both very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The house contained just about everything we needed to have an enjoyable and comfortable week. The kitchen was incredibly well equipped and we particularly appreciated the Nespresso coffee machine. A bottle of wine and a still warm from the oven banana cake greeted us on arrival, especially welcome after a long journey. It was so lovely to be able to wander around the lake in the evenings and we wish Katie and Mark all the best with their plans for the area.

We would definitely recommend The Milkshed.

Lovely holiday in beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were really impressed with The Milkshed; we loved the open-plan layout, it provided all mod cons that we needed, the bed was comfortable, lovely hot power shower and a beautiful view outside! We enjoyed using the hot tub (although the weather wasn't always quite up to it!) We had a delicious meal cooked by Mark and Katie was always on hand if we had any questions about where to go, etc. Thanks to them both for being such lovely hosts and we hope to visit again one day.

An amazing cottage!

  • 5 of 5

Well what a fantastic week in the Milkshed! We are already planning a return trip to the cottage in 2017.

The Milkshed was a fantastic base for our family holiday, it's a superb barn conversion, immaculate and the hospitality of Katie, Mark and the family was very much appreciated. The cottage is stylish with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The beds are super comfy and the well equipped kitchen is enormous! Our son Daniel (3) and the dog Molly just loved exploring the grounds. Daniel also enjoyed having two other little friends to play with – thanks Louis and Ivy!

So many attractions and sights to see in the area (hence why we are planning a return trip), all within an easy drive (Donkey Sanctuary Sidmouth, Dawlish, steam train to Kingswear/Dartmouth, Paignton Zoo, Killerton (NT) and the fantastic beaches at Dawlish Warren, Branscombe and Exmouth (to rival our home county of Northumberland).

PS - I’m also looking forward to the fantastic addition of a wood-fired hot tub next year!

Perfect getaway in beautiful area - fab for families

  • 5 of 5

I would highly recommend the Milkshed as a perfect Devon getaway! My family and I didn't want to leave after a week in this tastefully converted barn. It's clean and stylish with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. It's all on one level which is really convenient, the beds are comfy and the kitchen huge (also very well equipped)! For the kids, there were toys, games and books, even a football pitch and tree swings! There's wifi and docking speakers which we used to stream music from our iPad. Essential for holiday dancing! Our boys are 11 and 9 and they loved being able to freely roam about the grounds with their football! There are plenty of attractions to drive to (Escot, Burrow Farm Garden, Killerton (NT), Haldon Forest Park), country pubs (The Sidmouth Arms) and an amazing coastline (Sidmouth to Branscombe coastal path!). Katie and Mark are really helpful (Katie put away our food delivery before we arrived and was on hand incase we needed anything) and passionate about their property which they are developing all the time. We very much hope to return as there is still so much to explore in the area and we found we totally switched off and properly relaxed in this delightful place!

Beautiful property in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

Our third stay at The Milkshed was just as wonderful as our previous visits. The property is immaculate and equipped with everything you could need. Location is great too, whilst feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere you are just a short drive to amenities and local beaches. Katie and Mark are most welcoming hosts and have managed to make The Milkshed feel like a real home from home. We will most certainly be returning for a fourth visit!
