About the property

Detached 2 Bedroom Cottage With Contemporary Bathroom And Kitchen, Sea Views

The cottage is a detached croft bungalow set in 6 acres of croft land, with uninterrupted views across the sea to the Minch and Outer Hebrides. The cottage is fully centrally heated and has 2 bedrooms, one a king size double with views over the sea, the other a twin. The large lounge has a log burning stove and a large picture window overlooking the sea. In the lounge there is a flat screen TV, DVD player with lots of DVDs to choose from, and the free PC with free broadband. There are also lots of novels and books about Scotland, and games and playing cards. There is a beautiful contemporary kitchen with breakfast bar, fridge and freezer,oven, hob, chimney hood,microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. The bathroom is also modern with a large rain shower over the bath and heated towel rail. Both kitchen and bathroom have underfloor heating as well as central heating. There is also a large rear hall which has a cross trainer in it for any rainy days.

All rooms except the bathroom have very large picture windows to make the most of the views. The bathroom has a velux window.

Outside there is an enclosed garden to the front side and rear, and 6 acres of croft land to the front and rear.

The cottage is not overlooked and sits in a very peaceful location on a tiny no through road.

There is ample off road parking and a shed where bikes are kept which are for the use of guests.

From the cottage guests can walk along the cliffs or down to the beach. Minke whales, seals and dolphins have been seen in the bay, whilst there are Golden Eagles and Sea Eagles nesting on the cliffs and these can also be seen. Red deer can be seen on the croft most mornings and evenings.

About Helen Shaw

We are Bob & Helen, and we live in an old farmhouse on the fells in between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Bob is a computer expert and I am a photographer.

We both love the outdoors and Scotland and have climbed many Munros. We are currently walking from Lands End to John o Groats(in stages as we can't be away from work for too long) and have reached Glasgow so far!

Helen Shaw purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Helen Shaw chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

We fell in love with Green Pastures as soon as we saw it, just for the views it has and because we could have the 6 acres of land. The cottage needed a lot of refurbishment (Google street view images show how it used to be, not how it is now!)

We love to be there ourselves for the peace and quiet and because Skye is such a very special place!

What makes this cottage unique

We think you can't beat the views from the cottage across the bay and out to the Outer Hebrides. You can lie in bed and watch the dawn rise over the sea and the hills of Trotternish opposite, or sit in the lounge and watch dolphins in the bay below.

Stunning views, idyllic, remote, perfect

  • 5 of 5

As we approached Green Pastures Cottage on the wild and beautiful Waternish Peninsula we thought this looks pretty good. And then we saw the view from both outside and inside, and we knew that this place was going to be perfect. Finding it was so well furnished and equipped with a lovely modern kitchen and bathroom was even better. We had a fabulous week of walking and sightseeing, and the stunning views from the cottage were a constant source of pleasure. We were extremely comfortable and cosy no matter what the weather. The sense of remoteness just added to a peaceful, relaxed holiday.

Soul soother.

Arrived back from a fantastic stay at green pastures. The first thing that me and my family found was the warm and homely feel to the cottage. It didn't feel like home it was home. The views are something else. Ever changing and ever beautiful. To sit outside and enjoy my morning coffee looking at the view was very relaxing. My 9yr old daughter loved the lap top computer when she wasn't reading or using the binoculars and telescope provided. We saw an array of wildlife including seal and dolphins following a fishing boat.

In the evening sat watching he moon rise over Uig and watching the reflection dance on the sea all the while snug and comfy in front of the real fire was brilliant. The cottage was clean and tidy and the kitchen is fab with all the mod cons. As is the bathroom with an amazing rain shower and underfloor heating.

The cottage is remote about 15 mins from dunvegan and just over half an hour from portree but this suited us. We wanted quiet and seclusion to just be a family.

If your looking for a home from home with amazing views, peace, quiet, stunning scenery and comfort then go to green pastures. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Thank you helen for an amazing time in your wonderful cottage.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you loved your stay in our cottage. We are really pleased it felt like a home as we don't want it just to be a soulless holiday cottage but somewhere people can relax and be cosy and happy. We love the cottage and the peace that can found there, and as you say, the view is wonderful! Thank you for taking the time to submit a review.

Serenity and scenery

  • 5 of 5

A perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of our normal daily life. Ever changing scenery from the big windows. Warm and comfortable cottage. We didn't want for anything during our stay (except less of the 40mph winds we had all week! ;-)). We were even lucky enough to enjoy an amazing display of the northern lights from just in front of the cottage! Stunning!

Stunning views, peaceful location, cosy cottage

  • 4 of 5

We had a thoroughly relaxing holiday in this cottage. The location was perfect and just as described. The views from the large windows were stunning and always changing. We had everything we needed, and we were cosy and warm all week despite the howling gales outside! We were even treated to a magical display of the northern lights one evening!

A perfect spot to escape it all

  • 5 of 5

A well-maintained and clean cottage; modern shower and kitchen (well-equipped) that leave nothing to be desired; cosy lounge with an oven; fantastic view from both the bedroom and the lounge;

owner always glad to help and able to provide assisstance when needed; we definitely appreciated the welcome package and the hiking-guides for Skye;

next bars/cafés in Dunvegan (ca. 15min), Sligachan or Portree (both ca. 30-40min by car);

we would recommend this cottage to everyone, especially those who find pleasure in tranquility and nature alike!

Owner's Response: We always try and make the cottage both cozy and beautiful. The "oven" in the lounge is a multi fuel /wood burning stove.

The cottage has uninterrupted views over the sea to the Outer Hebrides. Is is situated on a quiet no through lane and is very peaceful, no light pollution and great for viewing stars. You can see whales and dolphins from the cottage and watch golden eagles and sea eagles from the cottage. The cottage is set in 6 acres and has red deer on the croft in front. There are great forest and cliff walks from the door. The historic Dunvegan Castle is just a short drive away. There are seal and whale watching trips locally.
