Overview

About the property

4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, hot tub, games room, 3 acre garden

This beautifully renovated farm cottage is set within a rural location just outside the town of Presteigne. Graded 4 star by Visit Wales. Quarry House is surrounded by woodland and is situated below Burfas Camp. The house is set within 3 acres of gardens with far reaching views across the Herefordshire countryside. Offa's Dyke and other walks are accessible from the grounds of the house, that guests can enjoy during their stay. The house sits north of the River Lugg which forms the England-Wales border. The location is an ideal holiday base from which to explore the Herefordshire, Shropshire and Welsh Marches areas. Close to Presteigne, which is the 'Gateway to Wales'. Nearby shops and pubs are within 3 miles.

The house is also within easy access to Ludlow, Hay-on-Wye and a day out at the coast.

Quarry House offers two large double bedrooms, one with a kingsize bed and the other with a double antique French bed. One twin bedroom with sofa bed (available upon request for an additional charge). All rooms having views across the stunning countryside allowing you to awaken to a room with a view! One bedroom with bunk beds, is situated at the rear of the property. The family bathroom features a stunning roll top bath with shower attachment, heated towel rail, toilet and sink. All of which have been recently redecorated and modernised to create a comfortable but luxurious home from home. Ground floor: Spacious kitchen with large farmhouse dining table with quarry tiled flooring, Rangemaster cooker, separate electric cooker, dishwasher, fridge, microwave and coffee machine. The kitchen is very well appointed with plenty of cutlery, crockery, glassware and cookware. The updated shower room with large walk-in shower, heated towel rail, toilet and sink allows ground level access. The lounge has comfortable seating for 8 people and features a wood-burner for those chilly evenings to snuggle up and enjoy the 3D flat screen television.

Accessible direct from the lounge is the hot tub which seats 6-8 people. The hot tub has been located in a private position for ultimate privacy and seclusion. Separate towels are provided for use after using the hot tub, as the chemicals may stain the house towels. We provide acrylic glassware for your safety to avoid breakages within the hot tub area. The addition of a games room with separate WC, pool table, TV, DVD, games console, board games and DVDs provides a retreat for the children or young at heart! The games room has a sofa bed which is available upon request for additional occupancy (charges apply). The house is baby / child and dog friendly. We provide a high chair, cot, baby bath, change mat, microwave steriliser and stair gates for both children and dogs. Our furry guests are not forgotten when providing a warm welcome. You will find dog bowls, a treat jar, poop bags and a dog crate. Dogs love the garden at Quarry House and walks are accessible direct from the property.

Quarry House has been renovated to a high standard to provide comfortable home from home holiday accommodation. The house has been equipped with all the facilities that we would find in our own home including the exact dishwasher! We hope our guests will enjoy Quarry House as much as we do.

We strive to update and improve Quarry House and its facilities on a regular basis. Recent improvements have included a hot tub and summer house. The summer house is equipped with sofas, table tennis and games. It an ideal place to sit and enjoy the views from that part of the garden. We are very excited about these additions and hope our guests will enjoy the new facilities as much as us. Renovations for 2017 include new window and doors in the games room and lounge.

About Amanda and Chris Mallett

We have three children and a chocolate Labrador. We enjoy spending time together on holiday and love the tranquil relaxing home from home we have created. We have hired many holiday homes over the years and now have a good idea about what makes a great holiday home. We hope that we have used our knowledge to create a wonderful holiday location for others to enjoy too.

Amanda and Chris Mallett purchased this house in 2013

Why Amanda and Chris Mallett chose Wales

Quarry House sits on the borders of both Powys and Herefordshire. We originally looked to buy a holiday home in Herefordshire where we had enjoyed a fabulous holiday the previous year. Herefordshire is a hidden gem of England and one of the best kept secrets as a place for wonderful holidays. Please keep our secret and join us in enjoying a beautiful part of the country.

What makes this house unique

The views from Quarry House are it's best feature. Watch the Herefordshire dairy herd in the morning charging across the fields to be fed. The walks direct from the property are fantastic for walkers and dog owners. Our dog enjoys the 3 acres of garden to explore. The house is well equipped for families with children. This house is our family home from home and we hope that you enjoy the comfort and facilities that we have available to our guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We've really our honeymoon say at Quarry House. We've discovered something new every day and been on some great walks with our dog. We've been very lucky with the weather, it was possibly a bit too hot on the first day! It's not often you can say that in the UK!

The house is fantastic, our daughter and dog have enjoyed exploring and playing in the garden. The slide and swing being a favourite, which she will miss when we return home.

You've really thought of everything in terms of games, information and household / family essentials. All of the finishing touches make Quarry House feel very much like a home from home.

A comfy, clean home from home

  • 5 of 5

Our 2 families, consisting of 4 adults and 4 children, loved our stay at Quarry House. Upon arriving in rain, we had the rest of the week in sunshine and warmth, which made it all the more lovely. The house has lovely furnishings and linens, everything you need in the kitchen and an amazing hot-tub, which the children took over! The games room was fantastic for them too, such a cool space for kids, and a lovely outside space. There are a lot of things to do in the area: beautiful National Trust properties, Ludlow and the castle there, amazing walks (the scenery is outstanding - try looking out from the summer house, it's picture postcard) and a traditional country pub 10 minutes away serving great food with amazing scenery. Would love to go back some time.

Wonderful house in fantastic setting - went walking every day and saw almost no-one on the way, such an idyllic location. The house is really well furnished with up to date equipment such as TVs, games consoles, well provisioned kitchen and the hot tub is awesome. Highly recommended.

Great location, fantastic house and a lot of fun.

  • 5 of 5

We were on a repeat visit to the lovely Quarry House on a girls weekend. It is so comfortable and fully equipped for everything you could need. We catered for ourselves and found everything we needed for cooking just as you would in your own kitchen. We bimbled around Kington but really didn't venture far. We loved having a roaring wood burning fire now that the evenings are getting chilly and there was plenty of sunshine too for sitting out on the raised terrace and admiring the fantastic views a wonderful place to visit at any time of the year.

Great well equipped property, stunning views

  • 5 of 5

By far the best equipped holiday-let kitchen I've seen.

We had a lovely stay and enjoyed the local town of Presteigne with its quirky local restaurants, deli, fishmonger, butcher, greengrocers with local produce etc.

As there's plenty to do within the property, and we only had a short stay we didn't adventure far, but enjoyed a relaxing time together, playing pool, table tennis and games etc.

Already planning to return.

Pefect

  • 5 of 5

The property was just perfect for my family, and refreshingly accurately described. Not too far from local villages, but remote enough not to see anyone unless we wanted to. A delightful welcome pack was much appreciated. The family went off walking everyday, while I stayed in the kitchen trying out recipes from a new cookery book, or enjoyed the sunshine and beautiful views from the terrace. Such peace.

Everything for everyone

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful house for a family holiday. Everything has been thought of and carefully made into a home from home. Amazing walks around for fine weather and the games room comes into its own in the evenings. There was plenty of room around the kitchen table even when we had unexpected visitors for dinner. My grand -daughters loved the swings and the freedom to roam within the grounds. We had a brilliant time visiting Croft Castle and also enjoyed the water gardens on the way to Leominster. My sons played golf at Kington. Two of our party went off mountain biking. All in all everyone had a great time.

Would recommend to others.

The location is an ideal holiday base from which to explore the Herefordshire, Shropshire and Welsh Marches areas. Close to Presteigne, which is the 'Gateway to Wales'. Nearby shops and pubs are within 3 miles.

The cathedral city of Hereford, the Wye Valley, Brecon Beacons, the Cambrian Mountains and the spectacular Victorian dams in the Elan Valley are all a scenic drive away. Croft Castle & Berrington Hall (both National Trust properties) are nearby. Berrington Hall is one of the few masterpieces of the famous architect Henry Holland to survive intact. As well as exploring the family rooms and servants' quarters, you can view a collection of Georgian costumes, including examples from 2008 film The Duchess and the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice. Walk through one of ‘Capability’ Brown’s final landscapes on one of the estate walks and relax by the lake or in the gardens. Croft Castle sits deep in the heart of Herefordshire countryside surrounded by 1500 acres of historic woodland, farm and parkland. Home to the Croft family for nearly 1000 years, this castle has many powerful stories to uncover.

Nearby Presteigne boasts a charming wine bar and fantastic Thai restaurant. The Stagg Inn, a Michelin starred pub is a tantalising 10 minutes drive away.
