Très agréable séjour au Moulin D'Arudy

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

A delightful place to stay

  • 4 of 5

This is a beautifully comfortable and very well equipped place to stay - a recently restored centuries old mill in a 'real' French town with butchers, bakers and everything else one might need for a holiday on the edge of the high pyrenees. Isabelle and Didier are charming and helpful hosts, with advice on where to go to enjoy the countryside and where to go to buy the local cheese and wine... all part of a good holiday in France. This really does take you away from it all and it is the perfect place for fresh air, exercise and unwinding.

A recommander vivement !

  • 4 of 5

Le Moulin d'Arudy is a building which dates back to the fifteenth century, straddling the picturesque canal and remarkable laundries used by tanneries that lined the nineteenth century. It is an authentic flour mill, in our family for over a century and functioned until the 1950s.

From your windows, you can admire the view of the canal, the center of the village and the mountains of Azerque, it is this view which appears on the homepage of the website of the Office of Tourism 'Arudy!

Since our village at the entrance of the Ossau valley in the Pyrenees Béarn, you can practice all the mountain-related activities, including skiing in winter (stations Gourette, Artouste and Formigal in Spain about 30 45 min), the spring trout fishing in the Ossau stream, streams or mountain lakes, hiking in the mountains in summer, horseback riding and other white water sports. From spring to fall, climb to the legendary Pyrenean passes cycling the Tour de France (Aubisque, Soulor, Marie-Blanque, ...).

In any season, you will enjoy exploring our valley and its authenticity: its remarkable sites, architectural heritage, pastoralism (and its famous cheese of Ossau), transhumance in summer. You may like to take the "little train of Artouste", the highest in Europe, to admire the fauna and flora Pyrenean effortlessly!

You can also visit the caves of Bétharram, the zoo of Asson. Lourdes is only 40 minutes drive and the beaches of the Cote Basque and Landes about 120 km.

Go do your shopping in the "ventas" cervical Pourtalet, border with Aragon province in Spain, 45 minute away from our mill. There are so many things to do in our valley! You will find all the information from the tourist office on the main square, 2 minutes walk from the cottage.

In the village center, you will also find many shops (supermarket, bakeries, butchers, pharmacy, florist, photographer, banks, tobacco-lotto-PMU, bars, restaurants, hotel). You will also find supermarkets and a bicycle repairman within 5 minutes drive. Every Tuesday and Saturday morning the market takes place around the village square. This is an opportunity for you to get fresh produce and other local products (cheese, meats, honey, ...).
