Peace and Light in the Heart of Paris

Bedrooms 1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Live as a local, with all international comforts, in a newly renovated architect designed, 32 square metre apartment, plus 8 meter balcony, (Caroline Hentschel DPLG),smack bang in the centre of Paris, near new and trendy rue Montorgueil (For those of you who have read 'Almost French'-by Australian author Sarah Turnbull- we've been unintentionally living the live version as a Franco-Australian couple in the same area of Paris).

Our apartment is easy to find being conveniently located within 1-3 minutes walking distance of 3 metro stations, including direct connection to Gare du Nord (Eurostar terminal) and also close to Chatelet/ Les Halles (direct connection to CDG airport) and a taxi rank is near by. There is even a bike place which has just opened up downstairs.

Once you arrive, you won't need to worry about transport because you can easily walk to the Louvres museum, the Georges Pompidou Center, the Marais area, Palais Royal and loads of Paris shopping bars and restaurants.

At the end of the day, it's easy to relax in our modern minimalistic light apartment, but still typically Parisian, with it's 18th century beams, which gives our (your) home a very cozy feeling. You've got all modern conveniences, highspeed internet (Apple G4) / free international phone to contact home, cable TV, DVD (all zones), etc (all listed below).

A feature is our garden balcony (with optional sail) where it is lovely to sit out and overlook all the roof tops of Paris with a nice glass of wine or with your 'café et croissants' in the morning (we're on the 5th floor - no lift - easy daily workout, save money on gym pass!).

Upon arrival our friend Breffni, (who is completely bilingual - French/ English) or another friend, will welcome you after your journey and be happy to answer any questions you may have. (He will then also 'be there for you 24/7' during your entire visit, should you have any further questions, problems, need a restaurant/taxi booked etc).

Rue de clery has been a perfect home for us (Australian classical singer/ music theater director and French journalist/ doco maker) and all our international friends and family...we hope you'll enjoy it as much as we have!

About Elizabeth and Albert Lecoanet

Franco-Australian couple, Elizabeth and Albert Lecoanet lived 'the Parisian life' in 73 rue de clery 5 years together (13 years altogether for Albert) before they decided to do a total architect-designed renovation of the apartment in the summer of 2007, and move to New York City, and rent out their Paris home.

The simple reason why they kept and rented their apartment in Paris, is because they have lived such a great Parisian local life, that they wanted to share this unique experience with fellow travelers.

French born Albert is a TV journalist now working as a foreign correspondent for French TV in the USA. You may see him or his name on M6, France 2, Canal Plus, TF1, Arte or some of the cable channels. Albert is also a documentary filmmaker.

Elizabeth (Liz) was born in Australia (Brisbane!) and is a singer, music theatre director, a teacher and a massage and sound therapist. She directed 3 musicals whilst living in Paris including Les Miserables (in French of course!)

She also sang beautiful ancient music at the church St Eustache, just down the road from the apartment, where thanks to the rehearsal each week, she also learned to speak French. You can go and hear the Choir 'Les Chanteurs de Saint Eustache' each Sunday morning at 11am, (free).

Today, Liz and Albert love, live and work in New York, and enjoy regular trips to France, Australia to visit their families and friends; and they also enjoy discovering America and other countries when the opportunities arise.

'Our apartment is for people who want to have a taste of what real life in Paris is like (except that we added all the 'non-French conveniences' like air conditioning, free international phone,etc.!).'

We hope you'll love Paris in our home, as much as we did!

Welcome to Peace and Light in the Heart of Paris!

Elizabeth and Albert Lecoanet purchased this apartment in 1998

What makes this apartment unique

Whilst we didn't purchase our Parisian home for a 'vacation rental', it was bought as a home to live in; it is located right in the heart of Paris and within walking distance to all the major 'tourist attractions'; for example, we are a 10 mins walk to the Louvres, 10 mins the other way to the Georges Pompidou Centre etc.

More interestingly though, for us, is that the current local hot spot for Parisians, Rue MONTORGUEIL, is only 3 mins away from our apartment. The Montorgueil street is a pedestrian street filled with cafes, restaurants, bars and specialty food shops. Fine local French cuisine. Need I say more?

This area is called Les Halles (or literally 'The Halls') and was the original market place of Paris (back in Roman times and up until the 70s!). When the car was invented, the small cobble stone street got all congested and the commercial markets moved out of the centre, however the Les Halles area kept its flavor and many fromageries, patisseries, and French specialties can be found in this area (including the Patisserie Stohrer dating back to 1750).

Great apartment from which to explore Paris

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful two night stay. We climbed the steep and winding stairs to a lovely view of Paris. We are fit and would not recommend the climb to those who are adverse to a cardiovascular challenge. We were greeted by an English speaking host, Brefni, who reviewed the features of the apartment and quietly vanished into the night. We found the apartment well appointed with dishes, towels, bedding, WiFi, and tourist books. We used the small refrigerator, dishwasher and clothes washer. The bathroom was functional and the daybed was comfortable enough for our rather picky third traveler, our teenaged daughter. We found the neighborhood a tad grittier than we had hoped. The apartment was pleasant as was our stay. It certainly offered opportunities to explore Paris and rest from our busy day as tourists. We took both the subway and bus during our time in Paris and the walk from the apartment was reasonable. It would be remiss not to mention the noise of the neighbors and that of the City. As the quarters were tight we did hear children crying and traffic. We saw this all as part of the real Paris experience we had signed up for rather than staying in a sterile hotel. We slept with the windows open and just embraced the quirks of city life. Cheers to having the opportunity to live like a Parisian for a few days. Thank you to our hosts for this adventure. We leave Paris with a respect for the locals and a better understanding of the challenges of living in this beautiful city can pose. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you Michelle, for taking the time to write such a descriptive and honest account of your thankfully wonderful time in Paris. The Parisian experience is EXACTLY why we started renting our apartment to guests like yourselves over 10 years ago now, and we have been blessed to have our little home practically full all year round (location location location!), and as an Aussie girl having had an incredible Parisian life in this apartment for years; hearing your story brings warmth to my heart. Yes, the stairs, what can I say.... I have been in Parisian homes which are reached BY LADDER! (Even in our building, can you believe there are actually 8! floors - even though our balcony is at the top! You keep going up, and then up a ladder and our friends up there have a 360 view of Paris. amazing. not for faint hearted though - agree. Very delighted to hear you had a good time in Paris. All the best always, and thank you again for a lovely review. Liz et Albert

Cozy, charming, and a great location!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay so much. Liz and Albert were wonderful to communicate with, and Breffni greeted us and made us feel at home right away. It was a perfect home base for our week in Paris. We loved shopping on the Rue Montergueil, especially all the patisseries and fromageries, and we sat on the balcony with our coffee in the morning and a little wine in the evening, breathing in Paris. The subway is right there and can get you anywhere and the apartment itself was clean, comfortable, and very well equipped. We did get a daily aerobic workout on the stairs, but they were well worth it for the view. It was everything we had hoped for.

Very Accomoddating

  • 4 of 5

Elizabeth and Albert were very attentive to our needs leading up to our arrival in Paris. They paid attention to all of the details to make sure we would make it to their lovely apartment in one piece and when we got there, we found we had made the right choice. Centrally located, we were very comfortable arriving back at our nest at the end of each day and even the 5 flights up was part of a Paris experience we will never forget.

December in Paris

  • 5 of 5

My daughter, a friend and I recently stayed in this apartment (second week in December) and had a fabulous time - apartment was fantastic, brilliantly located and perfect for our needs. We managed to fit so much into a week but not so much that we were overwhelmed. Security was high which was reassuring and we loved the feel of Paris in December – brilliant time to go!

My husband and I just returned from staying for 6 days in this wonderful apartment in the perfect location. The apartment was clean, bright with a fantastic balcony where we enjoyed our cafe and of course wine! We can't say enough about the location. We were able to walk to almost everything we wanted to see. Rue Montorgueil is a few blocks away and is lined with amazing shops and restaurants. It was one of our favorite spots!

Liz was very helpful and informative throughout the whole process and a huge thank you to Breff who met us and helped carry our bags up the stairs! The stairs may seem daunting at first, but they become second nature and help walk off all the delicious breads and pastries! The manual put together by Liz and Albert was so helpful and informative. It became our home away from home! Exactly what we were hoping for and will stay there for our next visit. Thanks Liz and Albert.

Owner's Response: Bonjour Kim, Oh Albert and I are always so glad that you both made our home yours. Isn't Rue MONTORGUEIL fabulous! Albert and I just arrived in clery last night, and even with the jet lag (from Australia!) and our 9month old, we are just loving being back in our little home. You are so right about the stairs. Thank you for saying though, to give others an idea.. I have already had... dare I say, 3 croissants since arriving. Shameful. We look forward to welcoming you again. And yes, totally agree. Breffni is a star! (they are his photos on the walls by the way...) Such a talent! Warmest, Liz et Albert

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying for 5 days in this wonderful little Parisian flat. Liz was so informative and lovely in the reservation process, and when we arrived the place was exactly what we had hoped it would be. The flat is well stocked with all the comforts of home, and thank god there are a few extra stairs to get up to the fifth floor because I was able to work off all the wonderful treats from just around the corner at Rue Montorguil. Don't hesitate - this is your place in Paris!!!
