|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
This traditional patio house is located within the romantic old quarter of Vejer de la Frontera. Parking, restaurants and bars are all within an easy two minute walk yet the house is within a peaceful and private courtyard.
The patio house offers comfortable accommodation over three levels, with the main bedroom and bathroom on the first level, kitchen/dining and lounge on the second level, and a second bedroom and sunshine terrace on the third level.
The open-plan kitchen/dinning area is equipped with a four-ring electric hob, microwave, family-sized refrigerator/freezer and washing machine. All bed linen and towels are provided for your stay, but please note that we do not provide beach towels.
The roof terrace has stunning views of the town and the rugged coastal countryside, and is equipped with a table and chairs for four people for al-fresco breakfast dining and evening BBQs.
Small, but perfectly formed and well kitted out, (including the newly installed WiFi which was an unexpected bonus), Casa Rivas is in a great location in the stunning hilltop town of Vejer. The house is fantastically positioned for wandering the streets of the Old Town with all its lovely shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Vejer has much to offer for a flavour of a more authentic Spanish holiday and makes a great base for exploring surrounding towns & cities, such as Seville and Cadiz; countryside such as Los Alcornocales and the stunning coastline from Barbate, through to Los Canos de Meca and El Palmar. Thoroughly recommended on every level.
Lovely traditional house in the centre of Vejer de la Frontera. Clean, homely and with lots of facilities. I am sure you could find more spacious accommodation however not in the centre of the old town with such a nice atmosphere.
Vejer itself is beautiful, a lively town with a good atmosphere every night and real spanish feel. Few people seem to speak english which I really enjoyed. The private balcony I would argue is one of the best views in the town and a great place to spend an evening people watching and listening to the sounds of the town. Pedros bar next to the house is fantastic, he serves very tasty tapas at a great price!
Vejer is also in very close proximity to many other interesting places. I highly recommend the coastal walk from Barbate to Canos de Meca, the scenery was beautiful. The beaches at Canos de Meca were my favourite due to the rocky coves and pine trees behind, you can also find delicious seafood here.
The Friday morning market in nearby Conil is very interesting, selling almost everything, so is the Saturday evening flea market in Vejer, right outside the apartments doorstep.
Cadiz and Jerez de la Frontera are also well worth a visit. Especially the alcazar at Jerez which is beautiful. The beaches near Tarifa offer lots of windsurfing and kitesurfing.
In short, excellent stay, we would love to visit again!
We really enjoyed our
> stay at Casa Rivas. The house is delightful, with everything we needed on
> hand. The Levante was a bit of a nuisance for the first 3 days, but it didn't
> stop us from enjoying ourselves. It just meant we couldn't go to the beach or
> use the roof terrace. But we did plenty of that in the last 3 days instead.
> The nightlife, as ever, was superb. There was a lot of live music around
> because of the festival, but it was easy to avoid if it wasn't your cup of
> tea. We really enjoyed the Janis Joplin bar, which was actually one of the
> reasons we returned to Vejer after our first visit last year. We also
> discovered another new bar which we really liked - La Poste. Good music, and
> the bar owner was very friendly.
> We ate in several restaurants, but our favourite was El Jardin del Calife.
> Everybody recommended it, so we had to try it, and it was outstanding! The
> surroundings are lovely, and the food was superb, and the staff were lovely
> We also really liked Pasteleria Galvan. Again, the staff were lovely, the
> coffee and cakes were delicious, and we could use the free Wi-fi with no
> hassle whatsoever, which wasn't the case in some places where we asked to use
> the Wi-fi!
> We had a lovely holiday, and we will definitely be returning to Vejer. You are
> very lucky to own such a lovely house in such a beautiful and interesting
Lovely centrally placed house in vejer, fully equipped and very clean and comfortable.
Highly recommend it to enjoy a truly Andulucian experience.
Rented Casa Rivas for a week's escape away to the sun, and we had a wonderful time.
House is well equipped and well furnished (not sure why you'd be bothered by the size of the tv when there's so many beautiful things to see and places to go in and around Vejer! see other review!). It makes a great place to stay for a couple (and room for 3 or 4). Perfectly comfortable, with everything you might reasonably need, and with amazing views over the town from the sun terrace.
Vejer itself is a wonderful, traditional Spanish town and gives a great flavour of real Spain. Not a lot of English spoken in the area, but that just makes it even better! Fabulous to just wander around the maze of narrow streets - especially in the old town - in the evening when the place is full of life and people. Bars and restaurants everywhere - the jewel of which is El Califa... a must visit place (but need to book on a Friday!).
Lots of information provided in the house for visitors about Vejer and the surrounding area which is all very useful. We made a couple of day trips. One to Gibraltar - cable-car to the top of the rock and walked down visiting St Michaels Caves (incredible) and the other sites, including meeting the Apes - and a day to Jerez, including a trip around the Sandeman's Sherry Bodega (unfortunately we didn't find any flamenco bars open in the daytime).
Fantastic choice of beaches nearby. We made it to Bolonia (combined with visit to the Roman Ruins which are quite a sight), La Roche, Conil, El Palmar and Zahora... where we enjoyed a nice dinner at restaurant on the beach, watching the sun set. Idyllic!
It may not be the most spacious place to rent, but it's a great (very traditional Spanish) house, in a beautiful place and there's so much to see, do and enjoy in the area that you won't spend much time indoors anyway!!
Service and help/information from Lee was great and we would definitely rent again (if back in that part of Spain) and would happily recommend it to friends.
We stayed at Casa Rivas during the October school half-term, desperate for a last bit of sunshine without having to take a long-haul flight – and it was perfect for us and our 9-year-old son.
We loved strolling around Vejer's twisty streets, finding great little shops, bars and restaurants (the Califa stands out), and the town's great location makes it easy to explore the surrounding area.
Keeping adults and son happy, we did 3 town day trips (lovely Cadiz, surrounded on 3 sides by the Atlantic; atmospheric Jerez including a tour of a sherry/brandy winery yum; and dramatic if rather touristy Ronda), plus 3 beach days (El Palmar, Bolonia and Conil), taking full advantage of temperatures in the mid-20s every day (hurrah, I have a gentle tan in November!).
The owner Lee was very helpful, emailing us loads of info before we left on everything from car hire to the best beaches, while the house had everything we needed – from dishwasher (hallelujah!) to beach toys. And the rooftop patio is a treat for an evening BBQ.
We would definitely go back and can highly recommend it – many thanks, Lee.
Set in the Moorish, hilltop town of Vejer de la Frontera this traditional Andalucian patio house sleeps four adults. Access to the house is via a romantic flower-filled patio with its own watering well, and offers comfortable accommodation split over three levels with a large double bedroom on the first level and smaller double on the third level. The second level has a well-equipped open-plan kitchen and dining area for self-catering, and the lounge area comfortably accommodates four people. The rooftop terrace has fantastic views over the historic town and to the rugged Atlantic coast.
Vejer de la Frontera is the ideal holiday location for anyone who wants to experience a part of Spain where tourists are still a rarity, and is close to the historic city of Cadiz and the sherry-making town of Jerez de la Frontera. Some of Spain's best golden sand beaches are just a short drive away, and the rugged Atlantic coastline has fantastic views to Morocco.
