Sky Island is the unique ecosystem of the craggy cliffs of Shawangunk Mountains famous among rock climbers. Nestled between the Rondout Creek and the D&H Canal, the cottage sits in a pastoral glade of trees, birds and deer. Kerhonkson is a Hudson River Valley town of natural beauty. It's a five minute drive to Minnewaska State Park and the Mohonk Preserve. This totally renovated 1840’s cottage is ideal for a couple, but also serves as a peaceful getaway for anyone wishing to spend some quiet time alone. It has a wood burning fireplace, cathedral ceiling with skylights and a private deck. It's an easy entry to the D&H Canal Rail Trail for walking, bicycling, cross-country skiing or bird watching. Regretfully, we cannot accommodate children or pets. Fireplace, Phone, Air Conditioning, Cable TV, DVD, Radio/CD Player, Full Kitchen, Microwave, Dishwasher, Refrigerator, Cooking utensils and Linens provided, Washer, Dryer, Deck, Charcoal Grill (BBQ), No Smoking
The house is so lovely, it always feels like home when we get there. We are Dutch and have been in this cozy house many times already. The first time we felt so welcomed by Irene, the owner, and now every time we see each other the contact just is great. The character of her and her family is in and around the house!
This cabin is perfect for the couple looking for a romantic getaway. Perfectly appointed, my husband and I literally could not have asked for anything more. The decor was extremely tasteful, and we had absolutely everything we needed (and more). Rustic exposed beams, skylights, deck, and cozy fireplace made this midweek escape one of the best we've ever had. A large selection of books, DVDs, and brochures for all the local parks, restaurants, vineyards, museums, and villages ensured that we spent our time enjoyably. The bedroom was surprisingly spacious with a big comfortable bed, fine linen and bedspread, and perfectly furnished. The bathroom was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed cooking our dinner in the well-stocked kitchen with the local produce we picked up during the day, and also appreciated the wireless internet connection with helped us keep tabs on what was happening in the "real world". There was plenty of closet space for us to keep our things and even a washer and dryer. This cabin is truly perfect, and we plan on staying again.
Thanksgiving was idyllic in Irene's peaceful cottage. Beautifully appointed with attention to detail, a fully equipped kitchen, soft fluffy towels and in an perfect location for exploring the Rail Trail, I would highly recommend this cottage as a wonderful place to stay.
This cozy and immaculate cottage was well appointed with all the necessary amenities and loads of thoughtful extras to make for a relaxing and fun getaway. The trail just feet from the door was a favorite destination for early morning walks and the view from every window was just peaceful. The proximity of the cottage to phenomenal hiking as well as little towns with shopping and eateries allowed for plenty of varied experiences. Staying put at the cottage with the fire and comfortable accommodations made remaining "at home" as nice as getting out.
We stayed with Irene from Aug. 25 (which was my husbands and my 9th Anniversary) until Aug 28. We were in Kerhonkson for our youngest sons wedding on Aug 27. Everything at the cottage was beautiful and well kept. We will definitely be staying again.

My husband and I stayed at the cottage for a weekend anniversary celebration. Irene had a bottle of champagne on hand for us to help with the celebration -- a very nice touch. The cottage is beautiful -- great place to just sit and relax. It is very clean and well-maintained. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay.
Came up here for a weekend of hiking and relaxation. This cottage delivered. Big time. Everything was neat and clean. Wonderful porch to grab a glass of wine and/or cold beer. The cottage owner was very helpful in providing details and attraction suggestions prior to arrival. For NYCers looking for an easy, fun getaway. This is the place.
