House as advertised, price was not

  • 4 of 5

We were looking for a large home in Normandy to accommodate our three-generation family gathering. This house was perfect: wonderful location right on the beach, grassy area for the kids to run, beautiful dining room big enough for all of us to eat together, a well-equipped kitchen, and enough bathrooms and bedrooms for us to spread out. It managed to be spacious yet homey at the same time. The Owner recommended a couple local restaurants, including one that catered and delivered a fabulous meal for us and some French relatives. The Owner couldn't meet us but her Rep was there as scheduled. She gave us the code for the wifi, but didn't know if it was in the house; it wasn't, but our resourceful teens discovered that if you sat outside the little house by the gate, you had service! There were no clean towels on the premises, but a call to the Rep remedied that. We had to make up a couple beds, but the linens were there, so no issue. The deposit check of 1000e turned into 2000e, but as the check was returned at checkout, no problem.

BIG COMPLAINT was the price. I booked on line in November, filling out the requested forms and giving my credit card as deposit. The next day I was informed that my reservation was not accepted as the posted price was wrong, and it should be 50% higher than listed. I contacted Home Away over what I considered a bait-and-switch tactic; they informed me that the owner had a right to change prices, and that Home Away was under no obligation to honor a listed price. Several days later, I again went on line: the original price was still posted. I filled out the forms, gave my credit card, etc. Same response, if I wanted the house I needed to pay 50% above the asking price posted. I again complained to Home Away, who said they would file my complaint and get back to me. Never heard from them. After a family confab, we agreed to the higher price as the house was just what we wanted. It wasn't the first time we used Home Away, but it will be the last.

Excellent séjour

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Magnifique !

  • 5 of 5
