About Arianne Geervliet

Arianne is originally from Holland and lived in Luxembourg for several years before she came to Crete. She has a degree in Health Sciences from the University of Maastricht. She loves gardening, cooking and walking.

Because she speaks 6 languages she is a good host for guests from many different countries.

Arianne Geervliet purchased this villa in 2005

Why Arianne Geervliet chose Chania area

Arianne fell in love with the Kissamos area many years ago because of the beautiful landscape and authentic atmosphere. Tourism is still not dominant here; normal Greek life goes on in this olive farming region throughout the year making her feel very much part of the community.

What makes this villa unique

Arianne immediately loved the unique location of Kastania Lodge, so close to Kissamos but set in a natural environment. She spent two years on the restoration and the whole property is now set in a mature Mediterranean garden.

Perfekter Urlaub in traumhafter Ruhe

  • 5 of 5

Perfect holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have recently returned from a wonderful peaceful getaway, perfect for our family of 3 including our 3 and a half year old boy.

1. The location is stunning, elevated with beautiful views to the coast and mountains from the balcony and the pool. The location is out of town, therefore peaceful, quiet and surrounded by wildlife; goats sheep, birds of prey can be spotted from the poolside. A car is beneficial to access shops, or it is a steep walk. There is a steep drive up to the house.

2. The apartment is very spacious, clean and well equipped with all amenities we required. A highlight was the balcony. It was huge and safely enclosed so our child could play.

3. The pool is beautifully kept. A good size considering there are only 3 apartments (we mostly had it to ourselves). There is a separated shallow end for little ones. This is a lovely space to relax. Younger toddlers (under 3) would need to be carefully supervised as there are a few hazards but this was not a problem for our slightly older child.

4. There are plenty of places to explore by car nearby. We found some lovely beaches in kissamos (family friendly &quite), at Phallasarna (expansive, beautiful but a bit exposed). Some excellent restaurants are also a short drive and we particularly like Maria beach restaurant

5. Our host Arianne was very welcoming and informative but also gave us plenty of space to enjoy our time.

We highly recommend and will definitely becoming back

A gem in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

We (my 84 year old mother, my 20 year old daughter, my wife and myself) were absolutely delighted with our stay at the lodge, which was even nicer than we had expected.

Setting up our rental had been easy—Arianne answered all email questions promptly, and provided excellent directions to the house. As she says on the website, you do need a car, since the house is in the hills above Kissamos.

The place is absolutely gorgeous, flowers everywhere, a well-kept pool, a big roof terrace to view both sunrise and sunset. The house is furnished comfortably, and was spotless. We ended up using the kitchen a lot, and found it well-stocked with tools, plates and pots.

Arianne provided us with ample information about local hiking and walking destinations, restaurants and tips for shopping.

Overall it's a great place for independent travelers, and we're planning to tell all our friends about it!

Luogo magico

  • 4 of 5

Tina

A small road from Kastelli ends at the hamlet of Kato Kounopitsa, home to 4 Greek families and Kastania Lodge. It is in a stunning location on a hillside overlooking the small seaside town of Kissamos, the sea and the olive groves. This little gem is perfect for those who want to be near all the amenities of a small Greek town, but also appreciate the peace and quiet of the countryside. Imagine picking your own flowers from the garden or herbs for cooking or making a tea. It takes less than 5 minutes to drive to town or to the nearest beaches.

We provide our guests with an information book with suggestions for day-trips, good tavernas, walks, snorkeling and diving, shopping and other practical information.

Literally from your doorstep you can go on walks and explore the area, which is rich in wild flowers, little churches and ancient sites.

Kastania Lodge is a perfect base from which to explore the west of Crete. The beautiful white sand beach of Falasarna is only a 20 minute drive away, or a little further you can visit the sandy beach and nature reserve of Elafonisi, or you might wish to explore the Gramvousa peninsula and the famous lagoon of Balos with a day trip on a boat.

There are many beautiful gorges to hike; at Deliana, at Anidri and Agia Irini.

For those who are interested in ancient Greece, there are wonderful museums in Kissamos itself and in Chania. The museum in Kissamos has some of the best-preserved Roman mosaic floors in the world, while the Historical Museum of Chania boasts artifacts and carved seals dating back to 1500 AC.

Kissamos has many superb restaurants and fish tavernas where you can relax over a meal in the sunshine, on the seafront.

The nearby Venetian city of Chania is a must for culture and shopping. You can buy handmade leather goods in the famous 'leather lane'. Chania also has numerous excellent restaurants near the historic harbour where you can enjoy traditional Cretan cuisine.

On the premises of 2800m2 Kastania Apartment and Kastania Studio are also for rent.
