Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday home in Quillan - La Maison Cerisier

A Comfortable 4 Bedroom Home On the River & Steps Away from Quillan's Main Squar

Sue, a guest visiting from Canada said: "...you are truly sharing a rare gem with your visitors."

Just one half block off the town’s main square, La Maison Cerisier comfortably sleeps up to 8 people, but we can happily accommodate smaller groups as well. Please contact us for more information.

Originally a mill and then an epicerie, this 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home is full of charm, retaining many of its original features such as hand painted Languedocien tiles, original floor boards and lovely paneled shutters on original french windows and doors. The character and quirks of the house have been retained as an 'architectural archive' of Quillan and its history. The house has a fully equipped eat-in kitchen comfortably seating 8+. There are two full bath/shower rooms.

The lounge area includes television, board games and reading material. The entire home is finished with tastefully selected furnishings, artwork and finishes that will enhance your enjoyment while relaxing in this charming home.

The upper terrace just off the kitchen is a superb spot for taking your morning coffee. A barbeque is also just off the kitchen. The flowery lower deck area, shaded by the ancient cherry tree and perched over the river Aude, has dinner seating for eight. Enjoy views of Quillan’s Vieux Pont or the hilltop Chateau from this special spot. The lower deck is a favourite gathering area of everyone visiting La Maison Cerisier.

We hope you can visit Quillan and experience our 'gem' in this special little corner of France.

And if you find yourself spending an extended time in France, we are fortunate to offer another property to our guests in the Dordogne- a lovely old orchard farm in the Perigord Noir with private pool which sleeps 8 between 2 cottages. If you will be visiting this fascinating part of France, do let us know and we would be happy to welcome you. Please see listing #1875018.

About The Bevans Family

We are global travellers and have lived in the United States, Switzerland and the UK. La Maison Cerisier in Quillan is our home away from home...

The Bevans Family purchased this house in 2012

Why The Bevans Family chose Limoux area

We fell in love with this region of France due to its rustic charm, French authenticity and easy living. The home's proximity to year-round activities of all sorts was important as we have children. The home's original features and the deck with its river views really captured our imagination as we loved the idea of entertaining on the deck. We visit in summer to spend time at the med beaches, secret river swimming holes and local pools, and in winter to ski in the Pyrenees. We are never tired of our view of the river and what the region and Quillan have to offer.

What makes this house unique

The unique location of our property allows us to visit Quillan and take advantage of summer festivals and concerts without having to drive around...everything happens just steps away in the main square. Bastille Day is a highlight as a generous fireworks display takes place over the Chateau Ruin. La Maison Cerisier has the best seats in town!

We are fortunate to offer another property to our guests in the Dordogne- a lovely old orchard farm in the Perigord Noir with private pool which sleeps 8 between 2 cottages. If you will be visiting this fascinating part of France, do let us know and we'll be happy to welcome you. Please see listing #1875018.

Beautiful riverside house

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay and we loved it just as much the second time around. The house has got great characters and a wonderful deck overlooking the river and very well equipt. It's perfectly located in Quillan, very much in the heart of all the action. We enjoyed lots of festivals during our stay espically the Quillan criterium which was wonderful to watch. The surrounding area has so much to offer, for walking, cycling, swimming, water sports driving, it's just beautiful. Quillan itself Is a very relaxed french country town with so much to offer in the way of markets, festivals and the river. We spent lots of time swimming in the cool fresh water. We hope to return to Quillan for a third time in the future as we do love it.

Traditional town house with wonderful riverside deck

  • 4 of 5

The house is located in the heart of the town of Quillan, with all the necessary amenities on the doorstep. The decking at the back of the house under the cherry tree is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy meals. The river is really fast flowing, with some man-made rapids in line with the back at the house, so there is a constant though not unwelcome sound of rushing water. We watched with fascination the kayaks trying to negotiate the rapids, and tried it for ourselves on our final afternoon - a great way to end the holiday.

The house was clean on arrival, and is well equipped. The kitchen is a great size and provides a real traditional French feel. All the bedrooms are large and airy with tall ceilings. With the windows left open there is a nice breeze throughout the house that helps to keep you cool at night.

Quillan has a good selection of restaurants, bars and more importantly boulangeries. It has a great public outside swimming pool that we used - the pool wasn't busy, it was cheap to enter, and it provided a great way to cool off on the hot summer days. Quillan is just under one hours drive from Carcassonne, always worth a day out. We also visited the Sieur d'Arques wine producer cooperative located in Limoux, famous for it's sparkling wines.

La Maison Cerisier is a charming French town house that provides a wonderful base for exploring the Cathar trails and castles, and for enjoying the white water activities on the river Aude. A great find and we can recommend it.

Restful stay in a little gem of a property

  • 5 of 5

Our family booked a last-minute trip to the area at the end of Easter Break. The owner was very accommodating to us with just just a few days to prepare for our visit. We were blessed with gorgeous weather and could use the deck and the barbeque even in April. The property was lovely with lots of fun details to enjoy inside. The view of the chateau was a treat to behold every day. We found the town to have all the conveniences we needed, and on several days did not use the car at all. The owners suggestions in the welcome book were very helpful and we tried the hot mineral springs pool in Rennes les Bains per their tips. Fun for an April afternoon. The view alone was worth that trip!

Clean, welcoming, comfortable. This quick trip gave us the Spring pick-me-up we were after. We will return.

Enchanting Village House with Riverside Deck

  • 5 of 5

The property is exactly as described and was easy to find. The house is in city centre of a very old, quaint French village. It was very clean and well-equipped making food preparation easy. The owner gave very complete and informative assistance before and during our stay. I was very impressed with the level of customer service she gave us. I've already given the highest recommendation to some close friends and will continue to do so.

We enjoyed following the Cathar trails and seeing their castles. One of our objectives was to explore the Corbieres wine region of Languedoc. We accomplished that goal with a flare! Outstanding wines.

This was a trip worth taking to a unspoiled region of France, and a beautiful place in which to stay. Enjoy!

Beautiful house with plenty of french charm.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Quillan, the house was perfect for our extended family everyone loved it. Plenty of time spent on the large deck and kitchen. We also loved the cherry tree for shady area. Our host Patrice has done a very tasteful job on the house and was more than helpful with any of our issues. I don't think we could have stayed at a better house in Quillan, the location was so convenient to all amenities, and Patrice had documented so very thoroughly information of Quillan and surrounding area and instructions for everything in the house. Quillan itself is a charming little town and perfect for discovering the Pyrenees whilst also being very close to Carcassonne. We felt we had the best of both worlds. Public transport was great, we really felt we did not need a car, only for Pyrenees trips. We would definitely go back for another stay. Thank you Patrice from all of us.

wonderful easy vacation, great for kids

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the charming, traditional 3-story house. It is conveniently located just steps from the main square complete with a few nice ( and surprisingly affordable) places to eat. The kids could roam around without supervision. Quillan is easily walkable, all necessities right there and they have a daily train connection Carcassonne. The landscape is breath taking and there is so much to do. We can only recommend it especially for families with children. The house easily fits 8 people.
