The cottage is only minutes away from world famous Magens Bay and Mahogany Run Golf course. It is centrally located between Charlotte Amalie and the Havensight Cruise Ship dock for shopping and sightseeing, and Red Hook on the East End for the ferry to St. John.
This charming French West Indian structure is a stand alone cottage fashioned after the architecture of the homes that are built on the Caribbean Island of St. Barths. Upon opening the gate, you are greeted with the view of the entire peninsula of Peterborg and Magens Bay. The entry to the cottage is flanked on both sides by magnificent boulders and lush vegetation. It is private and seculded, but the small friendly neighborhood also has homes nearby.
The elevation (600 feet above sea level) and the trade wind breezes make air conditioning unnecessary. In addition, there are ceiling fans in every room which provide further comfort.
When entering the cottage, you step into the large, open, living/dining room with screened windows stretching the entire length of the room. Once again, providing panoramic views.
The master bedroom has a queen size bed accommodating two people, with a shuttered interior window facing the magnificent view. The second bedroom has two single beds accommodating two additional people. The bathroom has a walk in shower, a window overlooking the garden, and is spacious and bright. The kitchen is fully equipped and has everything needed to cook those special meals. Or maybe you would rather dine alfresco and grill outside on the large, spacious deck. You can watch the twinkling lights appear at dusk on the hillside while preparing any enjoying your meal.

My husband, Ken, and I are now retired. We relocated from Massachusetts almost 25 years ago. Ken is a woodworker and meticulously returned the cottage to its original splendor, while I have been in charge of the furnishings and interior. It has ended up being a winning combination.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2010
This cottage was built in 1974, and was within sight of our home while we were building. For many years we thought about what a special place it was. When it became available early last year, we decided to purchase it for a vacation rental.. We moved to the lovely Virgin Islands after vacationing for several years in 1984 and realized that this is exactly where we wanted to live and spend all of our time.
The cottage has an old world charm not available in many of the contemporary rental villas. The cottage provides lots of outdoor living which is exactly what you want in the great weather which the Caribbean provides. The evenings are especially beautiful with the lights of the valley twinkling in the distance.
This little cottage is tucked away on a hillside on the beautiful island of St. Thomas with panoramic views of the beautiful ocean and lush mountainsides. I loved that the owners, Ken and Joanne, were very accommodating, both to me and my old pug! This quaint little get away is perfect for those who want a true local feel while in St. Thomas. Everything one needs is here: well appointed bedrooms, a beautiful open concept den, great kitchen and bathroom, and an incredible patio/terrace with outstanding star gazing at night. All in all, the price, location, and accommodations were awesome!
The "Cottage" turned out to be the caribbean paradise I was dreaming about. The lush, tropical feel one would expect in a rain forest along with the view of Megan's bay was magnificant. What a place to call your own for several weeks. We actually stayed for three weeks and should have booked longer.
The "Cottage" is well stocked with everything you need so don't bring bring anything other than your clothes. They have beach chairs, beach towels, cooler and everything you need including the hair dryer, washing machine and dryer.
The view at daybreak and the setting sun is breathtaking. Distant noices of dogs barking or roosters crowing are noticable in the late afternoon but the noices are from a distance and not close by the cottage. The cottage is surrounded on all sides by lush greenry so you free secluded and at peace. One of the reasons why I chose this site is they allowed my small dog to accompany us. And she (Remi) had a wonderful time on the large expansive deck chasing small lizards although she never caught one. Hull Bay is close by and we found it to be a small friendly local beach where we went snorkling. Remi was also allowed on the beach and could run up and down the sandy shore line without being on a leash. You will need a car to travel around the island since this location in high in the hills and not close to any stores. So, remember you will be driving on the left side of the road which didn't create any problems for us. The terrain is a little steep and it might take you a couple of days to feel comfortable with driving around the sharp curves on the roads. But, we didn't seem to have any problems with this. If you are accustomed to an air conditioned resort room, this might not be your place. The only time we were a little uncomforabel was from 3 to 5 in the afternnon. Other than that, the cottage was wonderful.
This cottage is a wonderful vacation spot if your looking for a private escape and a true caribbean experience. It's so close to all the beaches, towns, and the airport, but quiet and relaxing after a fun day touring the island. Loved the tree frogs, iguanas, and parrots that surround the cottage, as well as the wonderful views of Magens Bay! Joanne and Ken are wonderful hosts, and are available for any needs. Mafolie Restaurant, recommended by Joanne, was fabulous, offering excellent local caribbean cuisine.
The photos of this cottage are spot on but the actual feeling of the cottage and awesome views cannot be captured in the photos. You'll be serenaded each night by the tree frogs while you enjoy the terrific breeze flowing through the cottage. The cottage is fully screened so that the mossies don't get in, but we didn't have as much trouble with them as we thought we would. We used OFF Smooth/soft spray (15% deet) and we were just fine. Waking up, having breakfast on the deck and scanning for the iguanas in the tree tops was a great way to start the day. So glad they have a pair of binoculars available.
Ken and Joanne are fabulous hosts. They meet you near the airport and guide you to the cottage and will even stop so you can pick up a few necessities. They provide beach bags, beach chairs, towels and even a cooler. Just bring sunscreen, snorkel gear and a hat and you're good to go.
Very centrally located so you can reach anywhere on the island within a short period of time.
Thanks so much and we look forward to seeing you again!
We just arrived home from our 6 night stay at Whispering Palms, and are already looking forward to going back. I can't say enough good things about the rental-clean, beautiful views, spacious, and centrally located (15 minute drive to either town or Red Hook). Joanne met us 5 minutes from the airport, making the trip back to the cottage easy for someone new to the area. She also gives great recommendations, and was always available to reach out to if help was needed. Great place for a wonderful trip.
Whispering Palms was a magical place to stay for our week's vacation. Beginning with Joanne and Ken meeting us at the airport, our week couldn't have been better. It is a darling cottage, with the wrap around screened in living area and fabulous views of Magen's Bay, the ocean, and the surrounding hillsides. It's even more charming than the pictures show :-). The size was perfect for my husband and I (we enjoyed having the extra bedroom, but it could easily accomodate four people) and it was stocked with all the amenities we needed (towels, beach bags, full kitchen set up, linens, etc). We loved the openess and sense of being in nature. Having a parking spot was a bonus! It is also centrally located, we didn't have to drive too far to get to most anywhere we wanted to go.
Joanne was the most helpful person I have ever rented from, she went above and beyond whenever I had a question or needed help finding something. She even took us to the market before taking us 'home'. Her suggestions for food, recreation, transportation, and shopping were spot on. (Sib's for local flavor!) We definitely recommend this charming cottage and would gladly stay again.
