About the property

The cottage is conveniently within walking distance to the beach and village.

The Cottage is in walking distance or a a few minutes drive from Shanklin town, shops (local corner shops, Co-op and Lidle) and the various cafes, restaurants and bars both in the town and along the seafront and beach. You are able to park your car nearby where the cottage is located. There is a bus stop and local small bus station and train station nearby.

Bedding, towels, tea towels and general cleaning products are provided. No, gas, electric and water charges are applied during the summer season.

CHILDREN The cottage is suitable to accommodate children 3 years of age and above, as it is one of the original old workers cottages of Shanklin therefore the stairs are unsuitable for a stair gate.

Not disabled friendly due to the lay out of the cottage. For the comfort of visitors smoking is not permitted indoors. PETS - We are sorry but we are not able to take pets.

Guest Access -

When booking you will be staying at the cottage which is exclusively for your use throughout your vacation as is cottage garden.

Interaction with Guests -

Guests are provided with details on how to access the cottage main entrance door key via the secure external key box located next to the main door, prior to their arrival. Guests are left to their privacy in order to be able to relax to fully enjoy their stay.

The Neighbourhood -

Shanklin is a quaint town and village.

Getting Around -

The cottage is located within a few minutes walk from local bus stops from where the bus network connections take you to all of the Islands locations. There is also a bus station and Island railway station within 10 to 15 minutes walking distance. The seafront is approximately within a 6 minute walk from the cottage. There is a local supermarket and local town nearby.

Other Things to Note -

The cottage guest book located on the kitchen table provides guidance on contact numbers, where the electric and gas meters are located, water stop tap, gas and smoke alarms etc are located. Leaflets are provided on all of the Isle of Wight visitor attractions and places to eat. There is such a wide range of cuisine available within a reasonable distance from the cottage visitors whose desire it is to be on holiday and not use the cottages kitchen cooking facilities may not need to do so throughout their visit.

With reference to the above - Please note the cottage is one of the original town workers cottages and the stairs are not suitable to take a stair gate therefore the cottage can accommodate children of 3 YEARS OF AGE and above and is not suitable for wheelchairs and disabled. No smoking indoors. Not able to take pets.

Why Lynn Brown chose Isle of Wight

The cottage is nestled in the most visited part of Shanklin and situated amoungst thatched cottage properties referred to by visitors as a 'home from home, delightful and perfectly located in Shanklin. For those without transport there are bus stops. and a local train station. Shanklin is a gateway for travelling to all parts of the island. In the winter months it offers visitors fabulous winter rambling walking and cycling activites with access to walkways and cycle tracks around the coast and across the island reaching all areas of the island, with spectacular views in Autumn, Winter and Summer that enable you to see the whole of the Islands coastline down and across to the South Coast of England.

What makes this cottage unique

I take the opportunity to stay at Percy Cottage myself at the begining and end of the holiday season it has a unique peaceful charming quality about it. It is located in the oldest part of Shanklin town. Shanklin has golden sands and safe bathing.

Shanklin Chine is a 3 minute walk away which is a natural fissure in the cliff, formed by water cutting through sandstone. It drops 105 ft to sea level with dramatic waterfalls, deeply shaded paths which wind their way over a quarter of a mile to the sea. There are over 100 varieties of wild plants and many species of moss that flourish in the tranquil atmosphere. At the Chine the Heritage Centre, adjacent to the Gift Shop and Victorian Tea Room, contains an Exhibition and pictorial history of the Isle of Wight, together with a display and film show on the history of the Chine and Pipeline Under The Ocean (referred to as PLUTO). Shanklin Theatre is nearby.

Positives; the property is conveniently located in the old town of Shanklin. Close to shops, transportation, and restaurants. The cottage is well equipped and it has plenty of room to stretch out. Parking is not convenient, there is a bit of a walk, but it functions ok. With a bit of effort you walk to the beach and downtown.

Negatives; no WiFi, the shower presents a problem if you have mobility issues, there is a musky smell on the main floor. It is overwhelming when you first enter the cottage. They need to improve the ventilation or deal with the issue in some manner.

Cute little cottage in great location

Comfortable little cottage tucked away in the pretty area of Old Shanklin. Within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and the beach.

Cute, quaint cottage in an idealic location

Perfect location, tucked away in the middle of Shanklin. Cottage has everything you need, like a little home from home.

There is no parking close by to the cottage (5 mins walk away) but a small sacrifice/compromise.

Definitely would like to return in the future.

Second holiday at this cottage.

The property is just like it is shown in the pictures. It is really comfortable, relaxing, clean and in a central location near to the beach. I would recommend it to friends and family. The owner is very friendly and helpful. I had a fantastic holiday and will be back again next year.
