This unit is well known locally as 'Top of the World!' It is regarded as one of the world's greatest surf-view decks. Newly remodeled, this Penthouse unit features a spectacular, all glass, insulated view room with two trundle beds for heavenly whitewater sleeping.

The walk is two short blocks down to the beach and pier. Seals can be heard and observed from the deck telescope daily. The best surfing on the west coast of California is just down the stairs and close-by.

About Jerry Quinlan

The Surfview Top of the World owner is a past San Clemente Veteran of Foreign Wars commander and current Service Officer. He is an active volunteer in the community as a certified EMT, Neighborhood watchperson, Senior Center volunteer, and former Boy Scouts of America adult leader. He is a member of the San Clemente Downtown Business Association, Chamber of Commerce, and the San Clemente Men's golf association.

Jerry Quinlan is not an expert surfer, though, he can be found kayaking regularly around Seal Rock, to the south, or, every so often, swimmming around the pier.

He can be recognized on photo #16, with his daughter, Elizabeth, on the top deck at the 'TOP OF THE WORLD' SURFVIEW PENTHOUSE.

'Top of the World' is like a pressbox in a sports stadium; looking from a most exceptonal and unique view down over the pier, beach, harbor, and Islands on the horizon. A short two hundred twenty yard walk down to the sand.

The location is equally between Disneyland, Newport, Hollywood; and, San Diego Zoo, Seaworld, Legoland.

Overlooking EVERYTHING! - harbor, beach, waves, surfers, pier, and Islands.

Three block walk into downtown Del Mar street in San Clemente; and, 220 yard walk down to the sand, waves, pier, and restaurants on the pier.

I couldn't make it work with these folks way too many people ...they wanted 3 completely separate bedrooms and they were noisy and, sorry to say, Less pleasant to have than so many others.

We have rented this every year for the past 15 years!!!

It is home away from home for us and we love Jerry, the owner! The view is just stunning and the apartment is very nicely decorated with very comfy beds. Over the years we have had anywhere from 2 to 8 people staying there. 8 when our children were young and 2 now that my husband and I go alone. I highly recommend this apartment! You will probably return again and again as we have!

2 bedroom/2 bath with one queen sized bed - DON'T RENT THIS PLACE

This was not a fun place to stay...at all!

We had 3 couples that rented this "3 bedroom/2 bath penthouse" IT WAS 2 BEDROOMS, ONE WITH TWO SETS OF BUNK BED!!! The photos on the web site are not of the current rooms. The sheets on my bed were old and thin with little balls of cotton.

The floors were so filthy, our feet were immediately black (we all wore flip flops from there on out.)

None of our computers could find their servers, we tried all three wifis. Several of us fell behind on our work that was due while spending 3 long nights in this place.

The dishes were dirty - 3-dimensional food was dried on them.

There were not enough teaspoons or coffee mugs...the kitchen is a miss-match of odds and ends. The appliances all worked well.

The surveillance cameras down in the carport where all guests enter picked out a friend from Jamaica who has brown skin. The owner appeared and interrogated her - What is your business here? who are you visiting?, etc.

The building has 4 apartments and the laundry was always full with someone's laundry

Okay - there is a nice view from the balcony with fake grass flooring but we were not able to enjoy it as a little dog from the adjoining apartment kept coming over and peeing and pooping under the chairs we sat on. There was no way to get the pee out of the fake grass. There was also pee smell in the sun room where one couple had to sleep (it was in a group area). One couple got a hotel room down the road...thank god there was a room available!

Owner's Response: This review is an unfortunate, hateful distortion, especially of the cleaning! First, there ARE three sleeping areas, and family members love sleeping on the trundle bed in the glass room, listening to the waves crashing throughout the evening. Even if there was, temporarily, a dog or cat problem, deep cleaning has been completed, as of this writing. We are set up for families and try to keep the number around 6 or 8.These folks had their own expectations, but came anyway with numerous visitors thought their stay {who were likely more positively impressed than this review would have us believe}. "Brown skin people picked out for screening on video"? I have a stepson of mixed race. What a cowardly and defaming fabrication!! I wholeheartedly welcomed that young lady and her companion in my carport upon their arrival as I was leaving on a bike ride. This brief meeting was twisted and leads us to believe this review may well all be a scam, for extortion purposes. Wifi was up at all times and my wife, or myself, were around the building, or in our unit. They said nothing to either of us the three nights they were here. We could have performed a cleaning, helped them with the connection, or brought additional towels or coffee mugs. But they said nothing to us. Why all this? you may ask. Sad! Perhaps hateful? For example, the other vacationers who have enjoyed staying here for 16 years, whispered to me in the carport one afternoon that these people were overheard saying hateful comments regarding my "VETERANS FOR TRUMP" sign that was up in the carport, at the time. My local VFW is assisting me in taking legal action against possible hate, gender and age bias violations against these people. Home Away/ VRBO, one of my main sites since 1998, seems to have taken a neutral legal position. In summation, I/we have assisted in providing an opportunity for families of all races, creeds, and color, to experience family memories; for kids and grandkids growing up enjoying the beach, parents and grandparents watching their kids and progeny develop, siblings and family members with a cool drink overlooking the ocean horizons from the barbecue and beach fire table, all the while comfortably seated on the deck. That is my purpose and intention. I have been successful in that endeavor to a great extent for 17 years. Look at ALL my reviews and make your choice. It is unfortunate for me in defense of our facility, to necessarily say, do not rent to these people.

Stunning views and just steps to the beach

Home is in a fabulous location. We loved the sun deck and enclosed sun room. Views from every direction.

Ample place for our family to hang around and the owner, Jerry, was always there if we needed anything. Make sure you check out the surf shack. This place is loaded with everything one might need for a day on the beach.

Gorgeous View

This property was a little run down but the deck area made up for the small imperfections. Jerry was very friendly and accomadating. Very roomy and had all the amenities you could want. Would definitely stay here again and recommend this booking to friends and family!
