About this property

The Daffodil 1743 Getaway Apartment

Come enjoy a getaway back in time to help you forget about all the stress of your life! Bedroom/living room apt, sleeps 4 - 1 double and 1 twin bed, futon couch. Full kitchen, full bath, private porch in 1743 house. Gardens, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, pub, store. Equestrian farm, rural area near cities/airport. Easy drive to White Mountains, beaches, ocean, Pawtuckaway State Park, Canobie Lake, Boston, Manchester, Portsmouth, UNH. Near rec area, trails, swimming, covered bridge, playground, waterfall, music, Robt Frost farm. Furnished, wifi. Happy to recommend fun spots. Game closet. Books and art supplies. Cable TV, air-conditioned.

You have your own private entrance and screened-in porch off your yard and gardens. The apartment has been newly painted in classic New England colors, beautiful wide pine floors have been redone, Unit is renovated. The kitchen is equipped with dishes, pot and pans, and everything you need to feel at home. Bring foods that delight you or shop in local stores for things you need.

Bedding and towels are provided for your use.

Writers who want a literary getaway may love the solitude and comfort we provide. We are near the Robert Frost Farm. We provide writer discounts when asked.

People who are working in the area for a short term may find this a perfect home-away-from-home that is much nicer than being in a hotel.

We are NOT a hotel. We do not plan to clean your room or provide daily maintenance unless asked. You are guests in our home. You can ask when you need something, but know that we manage the farm, jobs, and have busy, fun lives and expect our guests to be independent, responsible, and respectful nice people. We expect for you to leave the apartment clean and tidy.

As a 1700s house, it has all the charms and quirks that are associated with colonial houses. It has been renovated to provide contemporary comforts, but if you're looking for ultra-modern chic, this may not be the place for you.

There is a guest parking area for you to use. We will show you where to park. There is a section of the yard outside the apartment that is designated for your use.

Children are welcome - there's lots to do here that will entertain them. Please note that we aren't set up for babies but love them, so let us know if little ones are coming so we can make sure their needs are met.

Well-behaved, trained pets are negotiable, for which there may be an additional charge. Dogs are expected to be with you as responsible owners. We request that dogs be kept on leashes while in the yard - there is significant wildlife here and we wish for your animals - and those that call here home - to be safe. There are nearby places you can walk dogs off-leash that we can point out. If you plan to be away for long we can set you up with a pet sitter, dog walker, kennel or doggie daycare. If you wish to ride horses, we can provide you with suggestions of nearby stables, one within easy walking distance from the Daffodil.

A wonderful weekend stay
The Daffodil was perfect for a quick weekend getaway. Yvonne was very accommodating and readily available during the stay. The property/house itself was wonderfully unique, and even had a few horses in a large, fenced-in area on the property. We had a lovely stay here.

Great getaway with period details
The Daffodil was just what I needed after being run down and in need of a break. The property has distinctive vibes and architectural details like wide plank floors, low ceilings and beams that give it a cozy and authentic feel.

About the host

Host profile image
Yvonne is a university professor who does work internationally and in the US, focusing on human rights and children's wellbeing. She is an author, consultant, and works with a variety of community organizations to make the world a better place. Her parents owned a motel when she was a child and she learned how fun it was to have visitors stay - which led to her interest in creating the Daffodil. She always dreamed of having horses and when she moved here she was able to make that dream come true. She is happy to share her joy and interests with visitors.

Why they chose this property

The Daffodil is a 1743 house, one of the oldest in Chester and originally was built by the Wason family, of Wason Pond fame. The house has been home to many generations of the Wason family. It was originally located beside the barn that is still at Wason Pond, but had to be moved to allow the highway to be built. The post and beam house was moved by oxen to a nearby location, and was moved to its current location in 1971. It fell into disrepair over the years. Yvonne bought the property in 2006 and has worked hard to bring the house back to its original beauty and charm and is glad to share it with those who stay here.

What makes this property unique

The house is quirky because it is 280 years old. People who enjoy old houses will find it to be curious and charming. You will wash dishes by hand, the way it used to be done before dishwashers were available. It has a new fridge, new flat-top stove and oven, microwave, coffee makers, and a small TV that will show DVDs. We have Lincoln Logs, cards, dominoes, and other old-school games, along with books and art supplies as we try to have something that everyone will enjoy. People who long for big flat-screen TVs and Ritz Carlton or Waldorf Astoria ambiance may be disappointed because we are not that. We find most visitors like to step back in time and experience a time when they can relax, enjoy each other's company, play, reconnect, and heal from everyday life chaos. We have good wifi, quiet places to work and play, and are family and animal friendly. We are happy to recommend things to do when asked.
