Excellent place for discovering Côte d’Azur

  • 5 of 5

For us – a family with 2 boys (13 + 15) the place was the perfect place and base for our 7 day holiday to Côte d’Azur. The apartment is in a good state and tastefully arranged – plenty of space for 4 people, distributed over 3 floors, plus a roof terrace, good for eating, morning yoga or watching the stars. We enjoyed the week living in this very French environment with relatively few non-French tourists. The bakery and restaurants, the small supermarket and the market place are just around the corner, a few meters away from “our” house.

And this is what we did during our week: one day visits to Nice, to Antibes (Musée Picasso) and to Saint-Paul-de-Vence (Fondation Maeght). And after some lazy mornings we had half days at one of the beaches (Cavalaire-sur-Mer, Pampelonne, L'Escalet) and at Saint Tropez. La Garde-Freinet also provides good options for walking – something we will do when we come back outside the hot summer season.

Beautiful village, beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

I really don't want to give this property a good review, because I don't want anyone else to discover this magical place. I want it to be our little secret so it is always there when we return. As far as the town there is magic around every quiet corner, and so much to discover in a very laid back and friendly setting. Fiona has maintained this property to a very high standard, preserving all the character details of the home, while adding modern conveniences. Two bathrooms were a real treat, as as was the deck balcony - amazing! We simply did not want to leave "our" place. And for those who want a beach vacation, this property is just a 30-minute drive to beautiful beaches, but mercifully away from the hordes of people! Yes, we did hear the recycling truck in the morning, but were not bothered by it at all, and as much as we loved being immersed in French culture, we were also happy all the friendly shop owners spoke English. There is also every modern convenience in town, so no need to leave. This was by far the best property we have stayed in on our trip. LOVED it and we will be back!!!!

La Garde Freinet vacation

  • 5 of 5

Everything went very smoothly with the landlord. You are just steps from the market on Sunday and Tuesday. Parking can be a little interesting on Sat and Mon night since market is the next day, takes away from the available parking spots. The house is perfect for what we needed. Had 3 adults, mom and dad on 2nd floor with their own full bathroom, I was on the 3rd floor, two double beds and full bathroom. On the terrace on 4th floor small kitchen and washer. Hadn't hung clothes on a clothes line since 1970's :-) But SO nice to have a washer.

We had some electrical issues, but the electrician was there within minutes, got resolved, quickly, I believe landlord has fixed the core issue. Only negative I will have to say is the house is close to the dumpster, no smell issues, however at 5am they are dumping all the bottles from the pervious day/night and it does wake you up if your a light sleeper. All in all great location, 2 full bathrooms, great trip!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review, Jocelyn! With regard to the recycling area, it can be noisy, but I tend to get used to it straight away and it never wakes me up! Light sleepers may find a pair of foam ear plugs will silence any noise issues. I am glad that you found the location to your liking - everybody does! - and that you liked the accommodation too. Glad you enjoyed your holiday and I look forward to welcoming you again!

A gorgeous house in a beautiful village

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. The house was perfect for a weeks stay...particularly enjoyed the rooftop in the mornings! We had everything we needed and really comfortable beds and great showers. The house is easy to reach and parking easily found close by. It is a stones throw from the boulangerie, the market and a handful of good restaurants. The locals are really friendly. The walk to the fort is fantastic. We definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting simplicity and peace within a bustling but seemingly untouristy village.

Good location town house

  • 3 of 5

Well equiped town house in a lovely village. Great nearby bakery and restauarants. Good sized rooms with fans in each room which were essential due the great hot weather. Lots to do nearby making this a good base.

The ancient village of La Garde Freinet is a hidden gem! Situated in the Maures mountains, it is far enough off the beaten track to be tranquil and calm, whilst providing all the facilities you will need for a fabulous holiday.

The house is situated on Rue Longue, which runs parallel to, and is directly behind, the main street, so you are only about one minute away from the shops and restaurants. At the end of the road (30 seconds from the front door!) is a bakery, from which you can buy warm, freshly-made croissants, baguettes, cakes and savouries.

With a pedestrianized main street, it is safe for children and there is a lovely swimming pool (with toddler's paddling pool and lifeguard) within easy walking distance. There is a twice-weekly market, a pharmacy, two supermarkets, lots of fantastic restaurants to suit all budgets, a few bars and some lovely boutiques and shops. You will also find a tourist office, an art gallery and some great outdoor walks. Cycling is very popular in this area, though not for the faint-hearted! The village is very sociable and hosts various events, including a fashion show, classic car rally, a chestnut festival and even an outdoor dinner-dance! La Garde Freinet is typically Provencal and has a very authentic French feel, whilst retaining a friendly and welcoming attitude to visitors.

Venturing outside the village, there is lots to do. St. Tropez, with its glitzy lifestyle and millionaire yachts, is about half an hour's drive away, and the famously glamorous Pampelonne beaches provide the backdrop for many a celebrity holiday. There are numerous picturesque towns and villages to visit, with Port Grimaud providing the nearest beach about 15km away. Also a short drive away you will find a water park, golfing, horse-riding, karting, scuba diving, and bowling. There are many fabulous vineyards in the vicinity where wine can be sampled and bought at very reasonable prices. The local rose wine is unsurpassed!

If you are feeling adventurous, the 'Gorges du Verdon' canyon will give you the thrill of a lifetime with its steep, winding mountain roads and spectacular views. White water sports and mountain biking are also available in this area.
